Matthieu 27
1 Or le matin étant venu, tous les princes des prêtres et les anciens du peuple tinrent conseil contre Jésus, pour le livrer à la mort.
Now when morning came, all the chief priests and elders of the people plotted against Jesus to put him to death.
2 Et l’ayant lié, ils l’emmenèrent, et le livrèrent à Ponce Pilate, gouverneur.
They bound him, led him away, and delivered him to Pilate the governor.
3 Alors Judas, qui l’avait livré, voyant qu’il était condamné, fut touché de repentir et reporta les trente pièces d’argent aux princes des prêtres et aux anciens,
Then when Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus had been condemned, he repented and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
4 Disant: J’ai péché en livrant un sang innocent. Mais eux lui répondirent: Que nous importe? Vois toi-même.
and said, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” But they said, “What is that to us? See to that yourself.”
5 Alors ayant jeté l’argent dans le temple, il se retira et alla se pendre.
Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went out and hanged himself.
6 Mais les princes des prêtres, ayant pris l’argent, dirent: Il n’est pas permis de le mettre dans le trésor, parce que c’est le prix du sang.
The chief priests took the pieces of silver and said, “It is not lawful to put this into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.”
7 Et après s’être consultés entre eux, ils en achetèrent le champ du potier, pour la sépulture des étrangers.
They discussed the matter together and with the money bought the potter's field in which to bury strangers.
8 C’est pourquoi ce champ est encore aujourd’hui appelé Haceldama, c’est-à-dire le champ du sang.
For this reason that field has been called, “The Field of Blood” to this day.
9 Alors fut accomplie la parole du prophète Jérémie, disant: Ils ont reçu les trente pièces d’argent, prix de celui qui a été apprécié suivant l’appréciation des enfants d’Israël;
Then that which had been spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying, “They took the thirty pieces of silver, the price set on him by the people of Israel,
10 Et ils les ont données pour le champ du potier, ainsi que me l’a prescrit le Seigneur.
and they gave it for the potter's field, as the Lord had directed me.”
11 Or Jésus comparut devant le gouverneur, qui l’interrogea, disant: Es-tu le roi des Juifs? Jésus lui répondit: Tu le dis.
Now Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus answered him, “You say so.”
12 Et comme les princes des prêtres et les anciens l’accusaient, il ne répondit rien.
But when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.
13 Alors Pilate lui dit: N’entends-tu point combien de témoignages ils rendent contre toi?
Then Pilate said to him, “Do you not hear all the charges against you?”
14 Mais il ne répondit à aucune de ses paroles, de sorte que le gouverneur en était extrêmement étonné.
But he did not answer even one word, so that the governor was greatly amazed.
15 À un des jours de la fête solennelle, le gouverneur avait coutume de délivrer au peuple un prisonnier, celui qu’ils voulaient.
Now at the feast it was the custom of the governor to release one prisoner chosen by the crowd.
16 Or il avait alors un prisonnier insigne nommé Barabbas.
At that time they had a notorious prisoner named Barabbas.
17 Le peuple étant donc assemblé, Pilate dit: Lequel voulez-vous que je vous délivre, Barabbas ou Jésus, qui est appelé Christ?
So when they were gathered together, Pilate said to them, “Who do you want me to release for you? Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?”
18 Car il savait que c’était par envie qu’ils l’avaient livré.
He knew that they had handed Jesus over to him because of envy.
19 Or, pendant qu’il siégeait sur son tribunal, sa femme lui envoya dire: Qu’il n’y ait rien entre toi et ce juste; car j’ai beaucoup souffert aujourd’hui dans un songe à cause de lui.
While he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent word to him and said, “Have nothing to do with that innocent man. For I have suffered much today because of a dream I had about him.”
20 Mais les princes des prêtres et les anciens persuadèrent au peuple de demander Barabbas, et de faire périr Jésus.
Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas, and have Jesus killed.
21 Le gouverneur donc prenant la parole, leur dit: Lequel des deux voulez-vous que je vous délivre? Ils répondirent: Barabbas.
The governor asked them, “Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” They said, “Barabbas.”
22 Pilate leur demanda: Que ferai-je donc de Jésus appelé Christ?
Pilate said to them, “What should I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all answered, “Crucify him.”
23 Ils s’écrièrent tous: Qu’il soit crucifié. Le gouverneur leur repartit: Quel mal a-t-il fait? Mais ils criaient encore plus, disant: Qu’il soit crucifié.
Then he said, “Why, what crime has he done?” But they cried out even louder, “Crucify him.”
24 Pilate voyant qu’il ne gagnait rien, mais que le tumulte augmentait, prit de l’eau et se lava les mains devant le peuple, disant: Je suis innocent du sang de ce juste: voyez vous-mêmes.
So when Pilate saw that he could not do anything, but instead a riot was starting, he took water, washed his hands in front of the crowd, and said, “I am innocent of the blood of this innocent man. See to it yourselves.”
25 Et tout le peuple répondant, dit: Son sang sur nous et sur nos enfants!
All the people said, “May his blood be on us and our children.”
26 Alors il leur délivra Barabbas; mais Jésus, après l’avoir fait flageller, il le leur livra pour être crucifié,
Then he released Barabbas to them, but he scourged Jesus and handed him over to be crucified.
27 Aussitôt les soldats du gouverneur menant Jésus dans le prétoire, rassemblèrent autour de lui toute la cohorte;
Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the government headquarters and gathered the whole company of soldiers.
28 Et, l’ayant dépouillé, ils l’enveloppèrent d’un manteau d’écarlate;
They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him.
29 Puis tressant une couronne d’épines, ils la mirent sur sa tête, et un roseau dans sa main droite; et fléchissant le genou devant lui, ils le raillaient, disant: Salut, roi des Juifs.
They made a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and placed a staff in his right hand. They knelt down before him and mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”
30 Et, crachant sur lui, ils prenaient le roseau, et en frappaient sa tête.
They spat on him, and they took the staff and struck him on the head again and again.
31 Après qu’ils se furent ainsi joués de lui, ils lui ôtèrent le manteau, le couvrirent de ses vêtements, et l’emmenèrent pour le crucifier.
When they had mocked him, they took the robe off him and put his own garments on him, and led him away to crucify him.
32 Or, comme ils sortaient, ils rencontrèrent un homme de Cyrène, nommé Simon; ils le contraignirent de porter sa croix.
As they came out, they found a man from Cyrene named Simon, whom they forced to go with them so that he might carry his cross.
33 Et ils vinrent au lieu appelé Golgotha, qui est le lieu du Calvaire.
They came to a place called Golgotha, which means “The Place of a Skull.”
34 Là, ils lui donnèrent à boire du vin mêlé avec du fiel; mais lorsqu’il l’eut goûté, il ne voulut pas boire.
They gave him wine to drink mixed with gall. But when he tasted it, he would not drink.
35 Après qu’ils l’eurent crucifié, ils partagèrent ses vêtements, jetant le sort, afin que fût accomplie la parole du prophète, disant: Ils se sont partagé mes vêtements, et sur ma robe, ils ont jeté le sort.
When they had crucified him, they divided up his garments by casting lots,
36 Puis s’étant assis, ils le gardaient.
and they sat and kept guard over him.
37 Et ils mirent au-dessus de sa tête sa condamnation ainsi écrite: Celui-ci est Jésus, le roi des Juifs.
Above his head they put the charge against him, which read “This is Jesus, the king of the Jews.”
38 Alors furent crucifiés avec lui deux voleurs, l’un à droite et l’autre à gauche.
Two robbers were crucified with him, one on the right of him and one on the left.
39 Or les passants le blasphémaient, branlant la tête,
Those who passed by insulted him, shaking their heads
40 Et disant: Ah! toi qui détruis le temple de Dieu et le rebâtis en trois jours, sauve-toi toi-même. Si tu es le Fils de Dieu, descends de la croix.
and saying, “You who were going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross!”
41 Pareillement les princes des prêtres eux-mêmes se moquant de lui avec les scribes et les anciens, disaient:
In the same way the chief priests were mocking him, along with the scribes and elders, and said,
42 Il a sauvé les autres, et il ne peut se sauver lui-même: s’il est le roi d’Israël, qu’il descende maintenant de la croix, et nous croirons en lui:
“He saved others, but he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel. Let him come down off the cross, and then we will believe in him.
43 Il se confie en Dieu; qu’il le délivre maintenant, s’il veut; car il a dit: Je suis le Fils de Dieu.
He trusts in God, let God rescue him now, if God consents to release him. For he even said, 'I am the Son of God.'”
44 Or, c’était aussi l’insulte que lui faisaient les voleurs qui étaient crucifiés avec lui.
In the same way the robbers who were crucified with him also spoke insults to him.
45 Mais, depuis la sixième heure, les ténèbres se répandirent sur toute la terre jusqu’à la neuvième heure.
Now from the sixth hour darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour.
46 Et, vers la neuvième heure, Jésus cria d’une voix forte, disant: Eli, Eli, lamma sabacthani? c’est-à-dire: Mon Dieu, mon Dieu, pourquoi m’avez-vous délaissé?
About the ninth hour, Jesus cried with a loud voice and said, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
47 Mais quelques-uns de ceux qui étaient là, et qui entendaient, disaient: C’est Elie que celui-ci appelle.
When some of those who were standing there heard it, they said, “He is calling for Elijah.”
48 Et aussitôt l’un d’eux, courant, prit une éponge, l’emplit de vinaigre, puis la mit au bout d’un roseau, et il lui présentait à boire.
Immediately one of them ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine, put it on a reed staff, and gave it to him to drink.
49 Mais les autres disaient: Laisse, voyons si Elie viendra le délivrer.
The rest of them said, “Leave him alone. Let us see whether Elijah comes to save him.”
50 Cependant Jésus, criant encore d’une voix forte, rendit l’esprit.
Then Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and gave up his spirit.
51 Et voilà que le voile du temple se déchira en deux, depuis le haut jusqu’en bas, et la terre trembla, les pierres se fendirent,
Behold, the curtain of the temple was split in two from the top to the bottom, and the earth shook, and the rocks split apart.
52 Les sépulcres s’ouvrirent, et beaucoup de corps des saints qui s’étaient endormis se levèrent;
The tombs were opened, and the bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised.
53 Et sortant de leurs tombeaux, après sa résurrection, ils vinrent dans la cité sainte, et apparurent à un grand nombre de personnes.
They came out of the tombs after his resurrection, entered the holy city, and appeared to many.
54 Le centurion et ceux qui étaient avec lui pour garder Jésus, voyant le tremblement de terre et tout ce qui se passait, furent saisis d’une extrême frayeur, et dirent: Vraiment, celui-ci était le Fils de Dieu.
Now when the centurion and those who were watching Jesus saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they became very afraid and said, “Truly this was the Son of God.”
55 Il y avait aussi à quelque distance de là beaucoup de femmes qui, de la Galilée, avaient suivi Jésus pour le servir;
Many women who had followed Jesus from Galilee to care for him were there looking on from a distance.
56 Et parmi lesquelles étaient Marie-Madeleine, et Marie, mère de Jacques et de Joseph, et la mère des fils de Zébédée.
Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.
57 Or, quand il se fit soir, vint un homme riche d’Arimathie, du nom de Joseph, qui, lui aussi, était disciple de Jésus,
When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who was also a disciple of Jesus.
58 Cet homme vint à Pilate, et lui demanda le corps de Jésus. Alors Pilate commanda que le corps fût remis.
He approached Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him.
59 Ayant donc reçu le corps, Joseph l’enveloppa dans un linceul blanc;
Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
60 Et il le mit dans son sépulcre neuf qu’il avait fait tailler dans le roc. Ensuite il roula une grande pierre à l’entrée du sépulcre, et s’en alla.
and laid it in his own new tomb that he had cut into the rock. Then he rolled a large stone against the door of the tomb and went away.
61 Mais Marie-Madeleine et l’autre Marie étaient là, assises près du sépulcre.
Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were there, sitting opposite the tomb.
62 Le lendemain, c’est-à-dire le jour d’après la préparation du sabbat, les princes des prêtres et les pharisiens vinrent ensemble vers Pilate,
The next day, which was the day after the Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees were gathered together with Pilate.
63 Et lui dirent: Seigneur, nous nous sommes rappelé que ce séducteur a dit, lorsqu’il vivait encore: Après trois jours je ressusciterai.
They said, “Sir, we remember that when that deceiver was alive, he said, 'After three days will I rise again.'
64 Commandez donc que le sépulcre soit gardé jusqu’au troisième jour, de peur que ses disciples ne viennent et ne le dérobent, et ne disent au peuple: Il est ressuscité d’entre les morts; et la dernière erreur serait pire que la première.
Therefore command that the tomb be made secure until the third day, otherwise his disciples may come and steal him and say to the people, 'He has risen from the dead,' and the last deception will be worse than the first.”
65 Pilate leur dit: Vous avez des gardes; allez, et gardez-le comme vous l’entendez.
Pilate said to them, “Take a guard. Go and make it as secure as you can.”
66 Ceux-ci donc s’en allant, munirent le sépulcre, scellant la pierre, et mettant des gardes.
So they went and made the tomb secure, sealing the stone and placing the guard.
