Matthieu 26
1 Or il arriva que lorsque Jésus eut achevé tous ces discours, il dit à ses disciples:
And it happened, when Jesus had finished all these words, that he said to his disciples,
2 Vous savez que la pâque se fera dans deux jours, et que le Fils de l’homme sera livré pour être crucifié.
"You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified."
3 Alors les princes des prêtres et les anciens du peuple s’assemblèrent dans la salle du grand prêtre appelé Caïphe,
Then the chief priests and the scribes and the elders of the people gathered together in the court of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas.
4 Et tinrent conseil pour se saisir de Jésus par ruse, et le faire mourir.
They took counsel together that they might take Jesus by deceit, and kill him.
5 Mais ils disaient: Non pas un jour de la fête, de peur qu’il ne s’élevât du tumulte parmi le peuple.
But they said, "Not during the feast, lest a riot occur among the people."
6 Or, comme Jésus était à Béthanie, dans la maison de Simon le lépreux,
Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,
7 Vint auprès de lui une femme ayant un vase d’albâtre plein d’un parfum de grand prix, et elle le répandit sur sa tête, lorsqu’il était à table.
a woman came to him having an alabaster jar of very expensive ointment, and she poured it on his head as he sat at the table.
8 Ce que voyant, ses disciples s’indignèrent, disant: Pourquoi cette perte?
But when the disciples saw this, they were indignant, saying, "Why this waste?
9 Il pouvait, en effet, ce parfum, se vendre très cher et être donné aux pauvres.
For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor."
10 Mais Jésus le sachant, leur dit: Pourquoi faites-vous de la peine à cette femme? c’est une bonne œuvre qu’elle a faite envers moi.
However, knowing this, Jesus said to them, "Why do you trouble the woman? Because she has done a good work for me.
11 Car vous avez toujours les pauvres avec vous; mais moi, vous ne m’avez pas toujours.
For you always have the poor with you; but you do not always have me.
12 Cette femme, en répandant ce parfum sur mon corps, l’a fait pour m’ensevelir.
For in pouring this ointment on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial.
13 En vérité, je vous le dis, partout où sera prêché cet évangile, dans le monde entier, on dira même, en mémoire d’elle, ce qu’elle vient de faire.
Truly I tell you, wherever this Good News is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be spoken of as a memorial of her."
14 Alors un des douze, appelé Judas Iscariote, alla vers les princes des prêtres,
Then one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests,
15 Et leur dit: Que voulez-vous me donner, et je vous le livrerai? Et ceux-ci lui assurèrent trente pièces d’argent.
and said, "What are you willing to give me, that I should deliver him to you?" They weighed out for him thirty pieces of silver.
16 Et de ce moment il cherchait une occasion favorable pour le leur livrer.
From that time he sought opportunity to betray him.
17 Or, le premier jour des azymes, les disciples s’approchèrent de Jésus, disant: Où voulez-vous que nous vous préparions ce qu’il faut pour manger la pâque?
Now on the first day of unleavened bread, the disciples came to Jesus, saying, "Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover?"
18 Jésus répondit: Allez dans la ville, chez un tel, et dites-lui: Le maître dit: Mon temps est proche, je veux faire chez toi la pâque avec mes disciples.
He said, "Go into the city to a certain person, and tell him, 'The Teacher says, "My time is near. I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples."'"
19 Et les disciples firent comme Jésus leur commanda, et ils préparèrent la pâque.
The disciples did as Jesus commanded them, and they prepared the Passover.
20 Le soir donc étant venu, il était à table avec ses douze disciples.
Now when evening had come, he was reclining at the table with the twelve.
21 Et pendant qu’ils mangeaient, il dit: En vérité, je vous dis qu’un de vous doit me trahir.
As they were eating, he said, "Truly I tell you that one of you will betray me."
22 Alors, grandement contristés, ils commencèrent à lui demander chacun en particulier: Est-ce moi, Seigneur?
And they were greatly distressed, and each one began to ask him, "It is not me, is it, Lord?"
23 Mais Jésus répondant, dit: Celui qui met avec moi la main dans le plat, celui-là me trahira.
He answered, "He who dipped his hand with me in the dish, the same will betray me.
24 Pour ce qui est du Fils de l’homme, il s’en va, selon ce qui a été écrit de lui; mais malheur à l’homme par qui le Fils de l’homme sera trahi; il vaudrait mieux pour cet homme qu’il ne fût pas né.
The Son of Man goes, even as it is written of him, but woe to that man through whom the Son of Man is betrayed. It would be better for that man if he had not been born."
25 Mais prenant la parole. Judas qui le trahit, dit: Est-ce moi, maître? Il lui répondit: Tu l’as dit.
Judas, who betrayed him, answered, "It is not me, is it, Rabbi?" He said to him, "You said it."
26 Or, pendant qu’ils soupeaient, Jésus prit le pain, le bénit, le rompit, et le donna à ses disciples, et dit: Prenez et mangez; ceci est mon corps.
As they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks for it, and broke it. He gave to the disciples, and said, "Take, eat; this is my body."
27 Et, prenant le calice, il rendit grâces, et le leur donna, disant: Buvez-en tous.
He took a cup, gave thanks, and gave to them, saying, "All of you drink it,
28 Car ceci est mon sang, le sang du nouveau testament, qui sera répandu pour un grand nombre en rémission des péchés.
for this is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
29 Or, je vous le dis, je ne boirai plus désormais de ce fruit de la vigne, jusqu’au jour où je le boirai nouveau avec vous dans le royaume de mon Père.
But I tell you that I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on, until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father's Kingdom."
30 Et l’hymne dit, ils s’en allèrent à la montagne des Oliviers.
When they had sung the hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
31 Alors Jésus leur dit: Vous tous vous prendrez du scandale à mon sujet pendant cette nuit; car il est écrit: Je frapperai le pasteur, et les brebis du troupeau seront dispersées.
Then Jesus said to them, "All of you will be made to stumble because of me tonight, for it is written, 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.'
32 Mais, après que je serai ressuscité, je vous précéderai en Galilée.
But after I am raised up, I will go before you into Galilee."
33 Or, Pierre répondant, lui dit: Quand tous se scandaliseraient de vous, pour moi jamais je ne me scandaliserai.
But Peter answered him, "Even if all will be made to stumble because of you, I will never be made to stumble."
34 Jésus lui répondit: En vérité, je te dis que cette nuit même, avant qu’un coq chante, tu me renieras trois fois.
Jesus said to him, "Truly I tell you that tonight, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times."
35 Pierre lui dit: Quand il me faudrait mourir avec vous, je ne vous renierai point. Et tous les disciples dirent aussi de même.
Peter said to him, "Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you." All of the disciples also said likewise.
36 Alors Jésus vint avec eux à une maison de campagne qui est appelée Gethsémani, et il dit à ses disciples: Asseyez-vous ici, pendant que j’irai là et que je prierai.
Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to his disciples, "Sit here, while I go there and pray."
37 Et ayant pris avec lui Pierre et les deux fils de Zébédée, il commença à s’attrister et à être affligé.
He took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and severely troubled.
38 Alors il leur dit: Mon âme est triste jusqu’à la mort; demeurez ici, et veillez avec moi.
Then he said to them, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here, and watch with me."
39 Et, s’étant un peu avancé, il tomba sur sa face, priant et disant: Mon Père, s’il est possible, que ce calice passe loin de moi; toutefois, non ma volonté, mais la vôtre.
He went forward a little, fell on his face, and prayed, saying, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass away from me; nevertheless, not what I desire, but what you desire."
40 Ensuite il vint à ses disciples, et il les trouva endormis, et Il dit à Pierre: Ainsi, vous n’avez pu veiller une heure avec moi.
He came to the disciples, and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, "What, could you not watch with me for one hour?
41 Veillez et priez, afin que vous n’entriez point en tentation; à la vérité, l’esprit est prompt, mais la chair est faible.
Watch and pray, that you do not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."
42 Il s’en alla encore une seconde fois, et pria, disant: Mon Père, si ce calice ne peut passer sans que je le boive, que votre volonté se fasse.
Again, a second time he went away, and prayed, saying, "My Father, if this cannot pass away unless I drink it, your desire be done."
43 Il vint de nouveau, et les trouva dormant, car leurs yeux étaient appesantis.
He came again and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy.
44 Et les ayant laissés, il s’en alla encore, et pria une troisième fois, disant les mêmes paroles.
He left them again, went away, and prayed a third time, saying the same words.
45 Alors il revint à ses disciples, et leur dit: Dormez maintenant, et reposez-vous: voici que l’heure approche, et le Fils de l’homme sera livré aux mains des pécheurs.
Then he came to the disciples, and said to them, "Sleep on now, and take your rest. Look, the hour is near, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
46 Levez-vous, allons; voici qu’approche celui qui me livrera.
Arise, let us be going. Look, he who betrays me is near."
47 Jésus parlant encore, voici que Judas, l’un des douze, vint, et, avec lui, une troupe nombreuse armée d’épées et de bâtons, envoyée par les princes des prêtres et par les anciens du peuple.
While he was still speaking, look, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a large crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and elders of the people.
48 Or celui qui le livra, leur donna un signe, disant: Celui que je baiserai, c’est lui-même, saisissez-le.
Now he who betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, "Whoever I kiss, he is the one. Seize him."
49 Et aussitôt, s’approchant de Jésus, il dit: Je vous salue, maître. Et il le baisa.
Immediately he came to Jesus, and said, "Greetings, Rabbi." and kissed him.
50 Et Jésus lui répondit: Mon ami, dans quel dessein es-tu venu? Alors ils s’avancèrent, mirent la main sur Jésus et se saisirent de lui.
Jesus said to him, "Friend, why are you here?" Then they came and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.
51 Et voilà qu’un de ceux qui étaient avec Jésus, étendant la main, tira son épée, et, frappant le serviteur du prince des prêtres, lui coupa l’oreille.
And look, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck the servant of the high priest, and struck off his ear.
52 Alors Jésus lui dit: Remets ton épée en son lieu; car tous ceux qui se serviront de l’épée périront par l’épée.
Then Jesus said to him, "Put your sword back into its place, for all those who take the sword will die by the sword.
53 Penses-tu que je ne puisse pas prier mon Père, et qu’il ne m’enverra pas à l’heure même plus de douze légions d’anges?
Or do you think that I could not ask my Father, and he would even now send me more than twelve legions of angels?
54 Comment donc s’accompliront les Ecritures, disant qu’il doit en être ainsi?
How then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that it must be so?"
55 En cette heure-là, Jésus dit à la troupe: Vous êtes sortis comme contre un voleur avec des épées et des bâtons afin de me prendre; j’étais tous les jours assis parmi vous, enseignant dans le temple, et vous ne m’avez point pris.
In that hour Jesus said to the crowds, "Have you come out as against a robber with swords and clubs to seize me? I sat daily in the temple teaching, and you did not arrest me.
56 Or tout cela s’est fait, pour que s’accomplissent les Ecritures des prophètes. Alors tous les disciples l’abandonnant, s’enfuirent.
But all this has happened, that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled." Then all the disciples left him, and fled.
57 Mais les autres, se saisissant de Jésus, l’emmenèrent chez Caïphe, prince des prêtres, où s’étaient assemblés les scribes et les anciens du peuple.
Those who had taken Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were gathered together.
58 Or Pierre le suivit de loin, jusque dans la cour du prince des prêtres; et y étant entré, il s’assit avec les serviteurs, pour voir la fin.
But Peter followed him from a distance, to the court of the high priest, and entered in and sat with the officers, to see the end.
59 Cependant les princes des prêtres et tout le conseil cherchaient un faux témoignage contre Jésus, pour le livrer à la mort.
Now the chief priests and the whole council sought false testimony against Jesus so they could put him to death;
60 Et ils n’en trouvèrent point, quoique beaucoup de faux témoins se fussent présentés. En dernier lieu, vinrent deux faux témoins,
and they found none, even though many false witnesses came forward. But afterward two came forward,
61 Et ils dirent: Celui-ci a dit: Je puis détruire le temple de Dieu, et, après trois jours, le rebâtir.
and said, "This man said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.'"
62 Alors le prince des prêtres se levant, lui dit: Tu ne réponds rien à ce que ceux-ci témoignent contre toi?
The high priest stood up, and said to him, "Have you no answer? What is this that these testify against you?"
63 Mais Jésus se taisait. Et le prince des prêtres lui dit: Je t’adjure par le Dieu vivant de nous dire si tu es le Christ, le Fils de Dieu.
But Jesus held his peace. The high priest answered him, "I adjure you by the living God, that you tell us whether you are the Christ, the Son of God."
64 Jésus lui répondit: Tu l’as dit. De plus, je vous le déclare, vous verrez un jour le Fils de l’homme assis à la droite de la majesté de Dieu, et venant dans les nuées du ciel.
Jesus said to him, "You have said it. Nevertheless, I tell you, after this you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of the sky."
65 Aussitôt le prince des prêtres déchira ses vêtements, disant: Il a blasphémé; qu’avons-nous encore besoin de témoins? voilà que maintenant vous avez entendu le blasphème.
Then the high priest tore his clothing, saying, "He has spoken blasphemy. Why do we need any more witnesses? See, now you have heard his blasphemy.
66 Que vous en semble? Et eux répondant, dirent: Il mérite la mort.
What do you think?" They answered, "He is worthy of death."
67 Alors ils lui crachèrent au visage, et le déchirèrent à coups de poing; et d’autres lui donnèrent des soufflets,
Then they spit in his face and beat him with their fists, and some slapped him,
68 Disant: Christ, prophétise-nous, qui est celui qui t’a frappé?
saying, "Prophesy to us, you Christ. Who hit you?"
69 Cependant Pierre était assis dehors dans la cour; et une servante s’approcha de lui, disant: Et toi aussi tu étais avec Jésus le Galiléen?
Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him, saying, "You were also with Jesus, the Galilean."
70 Mais il nia devant tous, disant: Je ne sais ce que tu veux dire.
But he denied it before them all, saying, "I do not know what you are talking about."
71 Et comme il sortait hors de la porte, une autre servante l’aperçut et dit à ceux qui se trouvaient là: Celui-ci était aussi avec Jésus de Nazareth.
And when he had gone out onto the porch, another girl saw him, and said to those who were there, "This man also was with Jesus the Nazorean."
72 Et il le nia de nouveau avec serment, disant: Je ne connais point cet homme.
Again he denied it with an oath, "I do not know the man."
73 Peu après, ceux qui se trouvaient là s’approchèrent et dirent à Pierre: Certainement, toi aussi tu es de ces gens-là; ton langage te décèle.
After a little while those who stood by came and said to Peter, "Surely you are also one of them, for your accent makes you known."
74 Alors il se mit à faire des imprécations et à jurer qu’il ne connaissait point cet homme. Et aussitôt un coq chanta.
Then he began to curse and to swear, "I do not know the man." Immediately the rooster crowed.
75 Et Pierre se souvint de cette parole que Jésus lui avait dite: Avant qu’un coq chante, tu me renieras trois fois. Et étant sorti, il pleura amèrement.
Peter remembered the word which Jesus had said, "Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times." He went out and wept bitterly.
