Matthieu 25
1 Alors le royaume des cieux sera semblable à dix vierges qui, ayant pris leurs lampes, allèrent au-devant de l’époux et de l’épouse.
Then may the kingdom of heaven be compared to ten virgins, who went out with their lamps to meet the bridegroom.
2 Cinq d’entre elles étaient folles et cinq sages.
Of these, five were prudent and five foolish.
3 Les cinq folles, en prenant leurs lampes, n’emportèrent point d’huile avec elles:
The foolish took their lamps, but carried no oil with them.
4 Mais les sages prirent de l’huile dans leurs vases avec les lampes.
But the prudent, besides their lamps, carried oil in their vessels.
5 Or l’époux tardant à venir, elles s’assoupirent toutes, et s’endormirent.
While the bridegroom tarried, they all became drowsy, and fell asleep.
6 Mais au milieu de la nuit, un cri s’éleva: Voici l’époux qui vient; sortez au-devant de lui.
And at midnight a cry was raised, The bridegroom is coming, go out and meet him.
7 Aussitôt toutes ces vierges se levèrent, et préparèrent leurs lampes.
Then all the virgins arose and trimmed their lamps.
8 Mais les folles dirent aux sages: Donnez-nous de votre huile, parce que nos lampes s’éteignent.
And the foolish said to the prudent, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are going out.
9 Les sages répondirent, disant: De peur qu’il n’y en ait pas assez pour nous et pour vous, allez plutôt à ceux qui en vendent, et achetez-en pour vous.
But the prudent answered, saying, Lest there be not enough for us and you, go rather to them who sell, and buy for yourselves.
10 Or pendant qu’elles allaient en acheter l’époux arriva; et celles qui étaient prêtes entrèrent avec lui dans la salle des noces, et la porte fut fermée.
While they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready, went in with him to the marriage, and the door was shut.
11 Enfin les autres vierges vinrent aussi, disant: Seigneur, Seigneur, ouvrez-nous.
Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, Master, Master, open to us.
12 Mais l’époux répondant, dit: En vérité je vous dis que je ne vous connais point.
He answered, Indeed, I say to you, I know you not.
13 Veillez donc, parce que vous ne savez ni le jour ni l’heure.
Watch, therefore, because you know neither the day nor the hour.
14 C’est comme un homme qui, partant pour un voyage, appela ses serviteurs et leur remit ses biens.
For the Son of Man is like one who intending to travel, called his servants, and committed to them his stock;
15 À l’un il donna cinq talents, à un autre deux, à un autre un, à chacun selon sa capacité, et il partit aussitôt.
to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to each according to his respective ability, and immediately set out.
16 Or celui qui avait reçu les cinq talents s’en alla, les fit valoir et en gagna cinq autres.
Then he who had received the five talents, went and traded with them, and gained five others.
17 Pareillement celui aussi, qui en avait reçu deux, en gagna deux autres.
Likewise he who had received two, gained other two.
18 Mais celui qui n’en avait reçu qu’un, s’en allant, creusa la terre maître.
Whereas he who had received but one, digged a hole in the ground and hid his master's money.
19 Longtemps après, le maître de ces serviteurs revint et compta avec eux.
After a long time, their master returned and reckoned with them.
20 Alors celui qui avait reçu cinq talents s’approchant, lui présenta cinq autres talents, disant: Seigneur, vous m’avez remis cinq talents, en voici cinq autres que j’ai gagnés de plus.
Then he who had received the five talents, came and presented five other talents, saying, Sir, you delivered to me five talents; here they are, and five other talents which I have gained.
21 Son maître lui répondit: Fort bien, serviteur bon et fidèle: parce que tu as été fidèle en peu de choses, je t’établirai sur beaucoup: entre dans la joie de ton maître.
His master answered, Well done, good and faithful servant, you have been faithful in a small matter, I will give you a more important trust. Partake you of your master's joy.
22 Celui qui avait reçu deux talents vint aussi, et dit: Seigneur, vous m’aviez remis deux talents; en voici deux autres que j’ai gagnés.
He, also, who had received the two talents, advancing said, Sir, you delivered to me two talents: here they are, and two other talents which I have gained.
23 Son maître lui répondit: Fort bien, serviteur bon et fidèle: parce que tu as été fidèle en peu de choses, je t’établirai sur beaucoup: entre dans la joie de ton maître.
His master answered, Well done, good and faithful servant, you have been faithful in a small matter, I will give you a more important trust. Partake you of your master's joy.
24 Puis s’approchant aussi, celui qui avait reçu un seul talent dit: Seigneur, je sais que vous êtes un homme sévère; vous moissonnez où vous n’avez point semé, et recueillez où vous n’avez rien mis.
Then came he also who had received the talent, and said, Sir, I know that you are a severe man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered;
25 Aussi, craignant, je m’en suis allé et j’ai caché votre talent dans la terre: voici, je vous rends ce qui est à vous.
being therefore afraid, I hid your talent under ground; but now I restore you your own.
26 Son maître répondant lui dit: Serviteur mauvais et paresseux, tu savais que je moissonne où je n’ai point semé, et que je recueille où je n’ai rien mis:
His master answering, said to him, Malignant and slothful servant, did you know that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered?
27 Il fallait donc remettre mon argent aux banquiers, et, revenant, j’aurais reçu avec usure ce qui est à moi.
Should you not then have given my money to the bankers, that, at my return, I might have received it with interest?
28 Reprenez-lui donc le talent, et donnez-le à celui qui a dix talents.
Take from him, therefore, the talent, and give it to him who has ten:
29 Car on donnera à celui qui a, et il sera dans l’abondance; mais à celui qui n’a pas, même ce qu’il semble avoir, lui sera ôté.
for to every one that has, more shall be given, and he shall abound; but from him that has not, even that which he has shall be taken.
30 Et jetez ce serviteur inutile dans les ténèbres extérieures: là sera le pleur et le grincement de dents.
And thrust out this unprofitable servant into darkness, where shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
31 Or, quand le Fils de l’homme viendra dans sa majesté, et tous les anges avec lui, alors il s’assiéra sur le trône de sa majesté.
Now when the Son of Man shall come in his glory, accompanied by all the angels, and shall be seated on his glorious throne;
32 Et toutes les nations seront rassemblées devant lui, et il les séparera les uns d’avec les autres, comme le pasteur sépare les brebis d’avec les boucs;
then shall all the nations be assembled before him; and out of them he will separate the good from the bad, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
33 Et il placera les brebis à sa droite et les boucs à sa gauche.
The sheep he will set at his right hand, and the goats at his left.
34 Alors, le roi dira à ceux qui seront à sa droite: Venez, les bénis de mon père; possédez le royaume préparé pour vous depuis la fondation du monde:
Then will the King say to those at his right hand: Come, you blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35 Car j’ai eu faim, et vous m’avez donné à manger; j’ai eu soif, et vous m’avez donné à boire; j’étais sans asile, et vous m’avez recueilli;
for I was hungry, and you gave me food; I was thirsty, and you gave me drink; I was a stranger, and you lodged me; I was a stranger, and you lodged me;
36 Nu, et vous m’avez vêtu; malade, et vous m’avez visité; en prison, et vous êtes venus à moi.
I was naked, and you clothed me; I was sick and you assisted me; I was in prison, and you visited me.
37 Alors les justes lui répondront: Seigneur, quand est-ce que nous vous avons vu ayant faim, et que nous vous avons rassasié; ayant soif, et que nous vous avons donné à boire?
Then the righteous will answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see thee hungry, and feed thee; or thirsty, and give thee drink?
38 Quand est-ce que nous vous avons vu sans asile, et que nous vous avons recueilli; ou nu, et que nous vous avons vêtu?
When did we see thee a stranger, and lodged thee; or naked, and clothed thee?
39 Ou quand est-ce que nous vous avons vu malade ou en prison, et que nous sommes venus à vous?
When did we see thee sick, or in prison, and visited thee?
40 Et le roi répondra, disant: En vérité, je vous dis: Chaque fois que vous l’avez fait à l’un de ces plus petits d’entre mes frères, c’est à moi que vous l’avez fait.
The King will reply to them, Indeed, I say to you, that inasmuch as you have done this to any the least of these my brethren, you have done it to me.
41 Alors il dira aussi à ceux qui seront à sa gauche: Allez loin de moi, maudits, au feu éternel, qui a été préparé au diable et à ses anges; (aiōnios g166)
Then he will say to those at his left hand, Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire, prepared for the devil and his messengers; (aiōnios g166)
42 Car j’ai eu faim, et vous ne m’avez point donné à manger; j’ai eu soif, et vous ne m’avez point donné à boire;
for I was hungry, but you gave me no food; thirsty, but you gave me no drink;
43 J’étais sans asile, et vous ne m’avez point recueilli; nu, et vous ne m’avez point vêtu; malade et en prison, et vous ne m’avez point visité.
I was a stranger, but you did not lodge me; naked, but you did not clothe me; sick, and in prison, but you did not visit me.
44 Alors, eux aussi lui répondront, disant: Seigneur, quand est-ce que nous vous avons vu ayant faim, ou soif, ou sans asile, ou nu, ou malade, ou en prison, et que nous ne vous avons point assisté?
Then they also will answer, saying, Lord, when did we see thee hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not assist thee?
45 Alors il leur répondra, disant: En vérité, je vous le dis, chaque fois que vous ne l’avez point fait à l’un de ces petits, à moi non plus, vous ne l’avez point fait.
Then he will reply to them, saying, Indeed, I say to you, that inasmuch as you did it not to any the least of these, you did it not to me.
