Matthieu 24
1 Et Jésus étant sorti du temple, s’en alla. Alors ses disciples s’approchèrent pour lui faire remarquer les constructions du temple.
Leaving the Temple Courts, Jesus was walking away, when his disciples came up to draw his attention to the Temple buildings.
2 Mais lui-même, prenant la parole, leur dit: Voyez-vous toutes ces choses? En vérité je vous dis: Il ne restera pas là pierre sur pierre qui ne soit détruite.
“Do you see all these things?” was his answer. “I tell you, not a single stone will be left here on another, which will not be thrown down,”
3 Et comme il était assis sur le mont des Oliviers, ses disciples s’approchèrent de lui en particulier, disant: Dites-nous quand ces choses arriveront? et quel sera le signe de votre avènement et de la consommation du siècle? (aiōn g165)
so, while Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, his disciples came up to him privately and said, “Tell us when this will be, and what will be the sign of your coming, and of the close of the age.” (aiōn g165)
4 Et Jésus répondant, leur dit: Prenez garde que quelqu’un ne vous séduise;
Jesus replied to them, “See that no one leads you astray;
5 Car beaucoup viendront en mon nom, disant: Je suis le Christ, et beaucoup seront séduits par eux.
for, many will take my name, and come saying ‘I am the Christ,’ and will lead many astray.
6 Vous entendrez parler de combats et de bruits de combats. N’en soyez point troublés, car il faut que ces choses arrivent; mais ce n’est pas encore la fin.
You will hear of wars and rumors of wars; take care not to be alarmed, for such things must occur; but the end is not yet here.
7 Car un peuple se soulèvera contre un peuple, un royaume contre un royaume; et il y aura des pestes et des famines, et des tremblements de terre en divers lieux.
For nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places.
8 Mais toutes ces choses sont le commencement des douleurs.
All this, however, will be but the beginning of the birth pangs!
9 Alors on vous livrera aux tribulations et à la mort, et vous serez en haine à toutes les nations à cause de mon nom.
When that time comes, they will give you up to persecution, and will put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me.
10 Alors beaucoup se scandaliseront; ils se trahiront et se haïront les uns les autres.
And then many will fall away, and will betray one another, and hate one another.
11 Beaucoup de faux prophètes aussi s’élèveront, et beaucoup seront séduits par eux.
Many false prophets, also, will appear and lead many astray;
12 Et parce que l’iniquité aura abondé, la charité d’un grand nombre se refroidira.
and, owing to the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.
13 Mais celui qui persévérera jusqu’à la fin, celui-là sera sauvé.
Yet the person who endures to the end will be saved.
14 Et cet Evangile du royaume sera prêché dans le monde entier, en témoignage à toutes les nations; et alors viendra la fin.
This good news of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the world as a witness to all nations; and then will come the end.
15 Quand donc vous verrez l’abomination de la désolation, prédite par le prophète Daniel, régnant dans le lieu saint (que celui qui lit entende):
As soon, then, as you see ‘the Foul Desecration,’ mentioned by the prophet Daniel, standing in the Holy place,” (the reader must consider what this means)
16 Alors, que ceux qui sont dans la Judée fuient sur les montagnes;
“then those of you who are in Judea must take refuge in the mountains;
17 Et que celui qui sera sur le toit ne descende pas pour emporter quelque chose de sa maison:
and a man on the housetop must not go down to get the things that are in his house;
18 Et que celui qui sera dans les champs ne revienne pas pour prendre sa tunique.
nor must one who is on their farm turn back to get his cloak.
19 Mais malheur aux femmes enceintes et à celles qui nourriront en ces jours-là!
Alas for pregnant women, and for those who are nursing infants in those days!
20 Priez donc que votre fuite n’arrive pas en hiver, ni en un jour de sabbat.
Pray, too, that your flight may not take place in winter, nor on a Sabbath;
21 Car alors la tribulation sera grande, telle qu’il n’y en a point eu depuis le commencement du monde jusqu’à présent, et qu’il n’y en aura point.
for that will be a time of great distress, the like of which has not occurred from the beginning of the world down to the present time – no, nor ever will again.
22 Et si ces jours n’eussent été abrégés, nulle chair n’aurait été sauvée; mais à cause des élus, ces jours seront abrégés.
Had not those days been limited, not a single soul would escape; but for the sake of God’s people a limit will be put to them.
23 Alors, si quelqu’un vous dit: Voici le Christ, ici, ou là, ne le croyez pas.
At that time, if anyone should say to you ‘Look! Here is the Christ!’ or ‘Here he is!’, do not believe it;
24 Car il s’élèvera de faux Christs et de faux prophètes; et ils feront de grands signes et des prodiges, en sorte que soient induits en erreur (s’il peut se faire) même les élus.
for false Christs and false prophets will arise, and will display great signs and marvels, so that, were it possible, even God’s people would be led astray.
25 Voilà que je vous l’ai prédit.
Remember, I have told you beforehand.
26 Si donc on vous dit: Le voici dans le désert, ne sortez point: le voilà dans le lieu le plus retiré de la maison, ne le croyez pas.
Therefore, if people say to you ‘He is in the wilderness!’, do not go out there; or ‘He is in an inner room!’, do not believe it;
27 Car, comme l’éclair part de l’orient et apparaît jusqu’à l’occident, ainsi sera l’avènement du Fils de l’homme.
for, just as lightning will start from the east and flash across to the west, so will it be with the coming of the Son of Man.
28 Partout où sera le corps, là aussi s’assembleront les aigles.
Wherever a dead body lies, there will the vultures flock.
29 Mais aussitôt après la tribulation de ces jours, le soleil s’obscurcira, et la lune ne donnera plus sa lumière; les étoiles tomberont du ciel et les vertus des cieux seront ébranlées.
Immediately after the distress of those days, the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give her light, the stars will fall from the heavens, and the forces of the heavens will be convulsed.
30 Alors apparaîtra le signe du Fils de l’homme dans le ciel; alors pleureront toutes les tribus de la terre, et elles verront le Fils de l’homme venant dans les nuées du ciel, avec une grande puissance et une grande majesté.
Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in the heavens; and all the peoples of the earth will mourn, when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the heavens, with power and great glory;
31 Et il enverra les anges, qui, avec une trompette et une voix éclatante, rassembleront ses élus des quatre vents de la terre, du sommet des cieux jusqu’à leurs dernières profondeurs.
and he will send his angels, with a great trumpet, and they will gather his people around him from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
32 Apprenez la parabole prise du figuier. Quand ses rameaux sont encore tendres et ses feuilles naissantes, vous savez que l’été est proche.
“Learn the lesson taught by the fig tree. As soon as its branches are full of sap, and it is bursting into leaf, you know that summer is near.
33 Ainsi vous-mêmes, lorsque vous verrez toutes ces choses, sachez que le Christ est proche, à la porte.
And so may you, as soon as you see all these things, know that he is at your doors.
34 En vérité je vous dis que cette génération ne passera point jusqu’à ce que toutes ces choses s’accomplissent.
I tell you, even the present generation will not pass away, until all these things have taken place.
35 Le ciel et la terre passeront, mais mes paroles ne passeront point.
The heavens and the earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
36 Mais pour ce jour et cette heure, personne ne les sait, pas même les anges du ciel; il n’y a que le Père.
But about that day and hour, no one knows – not even the angels of heaven, not even the Son – but only the Father himself.
37 Et comme aux jours de Noé, ainsi sera l’avènement du Fils de l’homme.
For, just as in the days of Noah, so will it be at the coming of the Son of Man.
38 Car, comme ils étaient aux jours d’avant le déluge, mangeant et buvant, se mariant et mariant leurs enfants, jusqu’au jour où Noé entra dans l’arche,
In those days before the flood they went on eating and drinking, marrying and being married, up to the very day on which Noah entered the ark.
39 Et qu’ils ne reconnurent point de déluge, jusqu’à ce qu’il arriva et les emporta tous: ainsi sera l’avènement même du Fils de l’homme.
They didn’t realize what was going to happen until the flood came and swept them one and all away; and so will it be at the coming of the Son of Man.
40 Alors de deux hommes qui seront dans un champ, l’un sera pris et l’autre laissé.
At that time, of two men on a farm one will be taken and one left;
41 De deux femmes qui moudront ensemble, l’une sera prise et l’autre laissée.
of two women grinding with a hand-mill one will be taken and one left.
42 Veillez donc, parce que vous ne savez pas à quelle heure votre Seigneur doit venir.
Therefore watch; for you cannot be sure on what day your Master is coming.
43 Mais sachez ceci: Si le père de famille savait à quelle heure le voleur doit venir, il veillerait certainement et ne laisserait pas percer sa maison.
But this you do know, that, had the owner of the house known at what time of night the thief was coming, they would have been on the watch, and would not have allowed their house to be broken into.
44 C’est pourquoi vous aussi, tenez-vous prêts; car vous ignorez l’heure à laquelle le Fils de l’homme doit venir.
Therefore, you must also prepare, since it is just when you are least expecting him that the Son of Man will come.
45 Qui, pensez-vous, est le serviteur fidèle et prudent que son maître a établi sur tous ses serviteurs, pour leur distribuer dans le temps leur nourriture?
Who, then is that trustworthy, careful servant, who has been placed by their master over his household, to give them their food at the proper time?
46 Heureux ce serviteur, que son maître, lorsqu’il viendra, trouvera agissant ainsi.
Happy will that servant be whom their master, when he comes home, will find doing this.
47 En vérité, je vous dis qu’il l’établira sur tous ses biens.
I tell you that their master will put them in charge of the whole of his property.
48 Mais si ce mauvais serviteur dit en son cœur: Mon maître tarde à venir;
But, should the servant be a bad servant, and say to themselves ‘My master is a long time in coming,’
49 Et qu’il se mette à battre ses compagnons, à manger et à boire avec des ivrognes,
and begin to beat their fellow servants, and eat and drink with drunkards,
50 Le maître de ce serviteur viendra le jour où il ne s’y attend pas, et à l’heure qu’il ignore;
that servant’s master will come on a day when they do not expect him, and at an hour of which they are unaware,
51 Et il le divisera, et il lui donnera ainsi sa part avec les hypocrites: là sera le pleur et le grincement de dents.
and will flog the servant severely, and assign them their place among the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.
