Matthieu 19
1 Or, il arriva que lorsque Jésus eut achevé ses discours, il partit de Galilée et vint aux confins de la Judée, au-delà du Jourdain;
When Jesus had finished these discourses, He removed from Galilee and came into that part of Judaea which lay beyond the Jordan.
2 Et de grandes troupes le suivirent, et il les guérit.
And a vast multitude followed him, and He cured them there.
3 Et les pharisiens s’approchèrent de lui pour le tenter, disant: Est-il permis à un homme de renvoyer sa femme pour quelque cause que ce soit?
Then came some of the Pharisees to Him to put Him to the proof by the question, "Has a man a right to divorce his wife whenever he chooses?"
4 Jésus répondant, leur dit: N’avez-vous pas lu que celui qui fit l’homme au commencement, les fit mâle et femelle, et qu’il dit:
"Have you not read," He replied, "that He who made them 'made them' from the beginning 'male and female,
5 À cause de cela l’homme quittera son père et sa mère, et s’attachera à sa femme, et ils seront deux dans une seule chair?
and said, For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two shall be one'?
6 Ainsi ils ne sont plus deux, mais une seule chair. Ce que Dieu donc a uni, que l’homme ne le sépare point.
Thus they are no longer two, but 'one'! What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate."
7 Ils lui demandèrent: Pourquoi donc Moïse a-t-il commandé de lui donner un acte de répudiation et de la renvoyer?
"Why then," said they, "did Moses command the husband to give her 'a written notice of divorce,' and so put her away?"
8 II leur répondit: Parce que Moïse, à cause de la dureté de votre cœur, vous a permis de renvoyer vos femmes; mais au commencement il n’en fut pas ainsi.
"Moses," He replied, "in consideration of the hardness of your nature permitted you to put away your wives, but it has not been so from the beginning.
9 Aussi je vous dis que quiconque renvoie sa femme, si ce n’est pour cause d’adultère, et en épouse une autre, commet un adultère; et celui qui épouse une femme renvoyée se rend adultère.
And I tell you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except her unfaithfulness, and marries another woman, commits adultery."
10 Ses disciples lui dirent: Si telle est la condition de l’homme à l’égard de sa femme, il n’est pas bon de se marier.
"If this is the case with a man in relation to his wife," said the disciples to Him, "it is better not to marry."
11 Jésus leur dit: Tous ne comprennent pas cette parole, mais ceux à qui il a été donné.
"It is not every man," He replied, "who can receive this teaching, but only those on whom the grace has been bestowed.
12 Car il y a des eunuques qui sont nés tels dès le sein de leur mère; il y en a que les hommes ont fait eunuques; et il y en a qui se sont eux-mêmes rendus eunuques, à cause du royaume des cieux. Que celui qui peut comprendre comprenne.
There are men who from their birth have been disabled from marriage, others who have been so disabled by men, and others who have disabled themselves for the sake of the Kingdom of the Heavens. He who is able to receive this, let him receive it."
13 Alors on lui présenta des petits enfants, pour qu’il leur imposât les mains et priât. Or les disciples les rebutaient.
Then young children were brought to Him for Him to put His hands on them and pray; but the disciples interfered.
14 Mais Jésus leur dit: Laissez-ces petits enfants et ne les empêchez point de venir à moi; car à de tels appartient le royaume des cieux.
Jesus however said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them; for it is to those who are childlike that the Kingdom of the Heavens belongs."
15 Et lorsqu’il leur eut imposé les mains, il partit de là.
So He laid His hands upon them and went away.
16 Et voilà que quelqu’un s’approchant, lui dit: Bon maître, que ferai-je de bon pour avoir la vie éternelle? (aiōnios g166)
"Teacher," said one man, coming up to Him, "what that is good shall I do in order to win the Life of the Ages?" (aiōnios g166)
17 Jésus lui répondit: Pourquoi m’interroges-tu sur ce qui est bon? Dieu seul est bon. Mais si tu veux entrer dans la vie, garde les commandements.
"Why do you ask me," He replied, "about what is good? There is only One who is truly good. But if you desire to enter into Life, keep the Commandments."
18 Lesquels? demanda-t-il. Jésus répondit: Tu ne tueras point: Tu ne commettras point d’adultère: Tu ne déroberas point: Tu ne rendras point de faux témoignage:
"Which Commandments?" he asked. Jesus answered, "'Thou shalt not kill;' 'Thou shalt not commit adultery;' 'Thou shalt not steal;' 'Thou shalt not lie in giving evidence;'
19 Honore ton père et ta mère, et aime ton prochain comme toi-même.
'Honour thy father and thy mother'; and 'Thou shalt love thy fellow man as much as thyself.'"
20 Le jeune homme lui dit: J’ai observé tout cela depuis ma jeunesse; que me manque-t-il encore?
"All of these," said the young man, "I have carefully kept. What do I still lack?"
21 Jésus lui dit: Si tu veux être parfait, va, vends ce que tu as et donne-le aux pauvres, et tu auras un trésor dans le ciel; viens ensuite, et suis-moi.
"If you desire to be perfect," replied Jesus, "go and sell all that you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have wealth in Heaven; and come, follow me."
22 Lorsque le jeune homme eut entendu cette parole, il s’en alla triste; car il avait de grands biens.
On hearing those words the young man went away much cast down; for he had much property.
23 Alors Jésus dit à ses disciples: En vérité, je vous dis qu’un riche entrera difficilement dans le royaume des cieux.
So Jesus said to His disciples, "I solemnly tell you that it is with difficulty that a rich man will enter the Kingdom of the Heavens.
24 Et je vous dis encore: Il est plus facile à un chameau de passer par le chas d’une aiguille, qu’à un riche d’entrer dans le royaume des cieux.
Yes, I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God."
25 Or, ces choses entendues, ses disciples s’étonnaient grandement, et disaient: Qui donc pourra être sauvé?
These words utterly amazed the disciples, and they asked, "Who then can be saved?"
26 Mais Jésus les regardant leur dit: Aux hommes, cela est impossible, mais à Dieu tout est possible.
Jesus looked at them and said, "With men this is impossible, but with God everything is possible."
27 Alors reprenant, Pierre lui dit: Et nous, voici que nous avons tout quitté pour vous suivre: qu’y aura-t-il donc pour nous?
Then Peter said to Jesus, "See, we have forsaken everything and followed you; what then will be our reward?"
28 Jésus leur dit: En vérité, je vous dis que vous qui m’avez suivi, lorsqu’à la régénération, le Fils de l’homme sera assis sur le trône de sa gloire, vous aussi, vous serez assis sur douze trônes, jugeant les douze tribus d’Israël.
"I solemnly tell you," replied Jesus, "that in the New Creation, when the Son of Man has taken His seat on His glorious throne, all of you who have followed me shall also sit on twelve thrones and judge the twelve tribes of Israel.
29 Et quiconque aura quitté ou maison, ou frères, ou sœurs, ou père, ou mère, ou femme, ou fils, ou terre, à cause de mon nom, recevra le centuple, et aura pour héritage la vie éternelle. (aiōnios g166)
And whoever has forsaken houses, or brothers or sisters, or father or mother, or children or lands, for my sake, shall receive many times as much and shall have as his inheritance the Life of the Ages. (aiōnios g166)
30 Mais beaucoup de premiers seront les derniers, et beaucoup de derniers les premiers.
"But many who are now first will be last, and many who are now last will be first.
