Matthieu 11
1 Et il arriva que lorsque Jésus eut fini de donner ces commandements à ses douze disciples, il partit de là pour enseigner et prêcher dans leurs villes.
And it came to passe that when Iesus had made an ende of commaunding his twelue disciples, hee departed thence to teache and to preach in their cities.
2 Or, Jean, quand il eut appris dans la prison les œuvres de Jésus-Christ, envoyant deux de ses disciples,
And when Iohn heard in the prison the woorkes of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, and sayde vnto him,
3 Lui dit: Est-ce vous qui devez venir, ou est-ce un autre que nous attendons?
Art thou he that shoulde come, or shall we looke for another?
4 Et Jésus, répondant leur dit: Allez, rapportez à Jean ce que vous avez entendu et vu:
And Iesus answering, said vnto them, Goe, and shewe Iohn, what things ye heare, and see.
5 Des aveugles voient, des boiteux marchent, des lépreux sont guéris, des sourds entendent, des morts ressuscitent, des pauvres sont évangélisés.
The blinde receiue sight, and the halt doe walke: the lepers are clensed, and the deafe heare, the dead are raised vp, and the poore receiue the Gospel.
6 Et heureux est celui qui ne se scandalisera point de moi.
And blessed is he that shall not be offeded in me.
7 Comme ils s’en retournaient, Jésus commença à dire de Jean à la multitude: Qu’êtes-vous allés voir au désert? un roseau agité par le vent?
And as they departed, Iesus beganne to speake vnto the multitude, of Iohn, What went ye out into the wildernes to see? A reede shaken with the winde?
8 Mais encore, qu’êtes-vous allés voir? un homme vêtu mollement? Mais ceux qui se vêtent mollement sont dans les maisons des rois.
But what went ye out to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they that weare soft clothing, are in Kings houses.
9 Qu’êtes-vous donc allés voir? un prophète? Oui. je vous le dis, et plus qu’un prophète;
But what went ye out to see? A Prophet? Yea, I say vnto you, and more then a Prophet.
10 Car c’est lui dont il est écrit: Voici que moi j’envoie mon ange devant votre face, lequel préparera votre voie devant vous.
For this is he of whom it is written, Beholde, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
11 En vérité, je vous le dis, il ne s’est pas élevé entre les enfants des femmes de plus grand que Jean-Baptiste; mais celui qui est le plus petit dans le royaume des cieux est plus grand que lui.
Verely I say vnto you, among them which are begotten of women, arose there not a greater then Iohn Baptist: notwithstanding, he that is the least in the kingdome of heauen, is greater then he.
12 Or, depuis les jours de Jean-Baptiste jusqu’à présent, le royaume des cieux souffre violence, et ce sont des violents qui le ravissent.
And from the time of Iohn Baptist hitherto, the kingdome of heauen suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
13 Car tous les prophètes et la loi ont prophétisé jusqu’à Jean.
For all the Prophetes and the Lawe prophecied vnto Iohn.
14 Et si vous voulez le comprendre, il est lui-même Élie qui doit venir.
And if ye will receiue it, this is that Elias, which was to come.
15 Que celui qui a des oreilles pour entendre, entende.
He that hath eares to heare, let him heare.
16 Mais à qui comparerai-je cette génération? Elle est semblable à des enfants assis dans la place qui, criant à leurs compagnons,
But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like vnto litle children which sit in the markets, and call vnto their fellowes,
17 Disent: nous avons chanté pour vous, et vous n’avez point dansé; nous nous sommes lamentés, et vous n’avez poussé ni plaintes ni gémissements.
And say, We haue piped vnto you, and ye haue not daunced, we haue mourned vnto you, and ye haue not lamented.
18 Jean, en effet, est venu ne mangeant, ni ne buvant, et ils disent: Il est démoniaque.
For Iohn came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a deuill.
19 Le Fils de l’homme est venu mangeant et buvant, et ils disent: Voilà un homme de bonne chère et adonné au vin, ami des publicains et des pécheurs. Mais la sagesse a été justifiée par ses enfants.
The sonne of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Beholde a glutton and a drinker of wine, a friend vnto Publicanes and sinners: but wisedome is iustified of her children.
20 Alors il commença à faire des reproches aux villes dans lesquelles s’était opéré le plus grand nombre de ses miracles, de ce qu’elles n’avaient pas fait pénitence.
Then began he to vpbraide the cities, wherein most of his great workes were done, because they repented not.
21 Malheur à toi, Corozaïn; malheur à toi, Bethsaïde! car si les miracles qui ont été faits au milieu de vous avaient été faits dans Tyr et Sidon, elles auraient fait pénitence autrefois sous le cilice et dans la cendre.
Woe be to thee, Chorazin: Woe be to thee, Bethsaida: for if ye great workes, which were done in you, had bene done in Tyrus and Sidon, they had repented long agone in sackecloth and ashes.
22 Aussi, je vous le dis: Pour Tyr et pour Sidon, il y aura plus de rémission au jour du jugement que pour vous.
But I say to you, It shalbe easier for Tyrus and Sidon at the day of iudgement, then for you.
23 Et toi, Capharnaüm, est-ce jusqu’au ciel que tu t’élèveras? Tu descendras jusqu’aux enfers, parce que, si dans Sodome avaient été faits les miracles qui ont été faits au milieu de toi, elle aurait peut-être subsisté jusqu’à ce jour. (Hadēs g86)
And thou, Capernaum, which art lifted vp vnto heauen, shalt be brought downe to hell: for if the great workes, which haue bin done in thee, had bene done among them of Sodom, they had remained to this day. (Hadēs g86)
24 Bien plus, je vous dis que pour le pays de Sodome, il y aura au jour du jugement plus de rémission que pour toi.
But I say vnto you, that it shall be easier for them of the land of Sodom in the day of iudgement, then for thee.
25 En ce temps-là, Jésus prenant la parole, dit: Mon Père, Seigneur du ciel et de la terre, je vous rends gloire de ce que vous avez caché ces choses aux sages et aux prudents, et que vous les avez révélées aux petits.
At that time Iesus answered, and saide, I giue thee thankes, O Father, Lord of heauen and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and men of vnderstanding, and hast opened them vnto babes.
26 Oui, mon Père, parce qu’il vous a plu ainsi.
It is so, O Father, because thy good pleasure was such.
27 Toutes choses m’ont été données par mon Père. Et nul ne connaît le Fils, si ce n’est le Père; et nul ne connaît le Père, si ce n’est le Fils, et celui à qui le Fils aura voulu le révéler.
All things are giuen vnto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Sonne, but ye Father: neither knoweth any man ye Father, but the Sonne, and he to whom ye Sonne will reueile him.
28 Venez à moi, vous tous qui prenez de la peine et qui êtes chargés, et je vous soulagerai.
Come vnto me, all ye that are wearie and laden, and I will ease you.
29 Prenez mon joug sur vous, et apprenez de moi que je suis doux et humble de cœur, et vous trouverez du repos pour vos âmes.
Take my yoke on you, and learne of me that I am meeke and lowly in heart: and ye shall finde rest vnto your soules.
30 Car mon joug est doux et mon fardeau léger.
For my yoke is easie, and my burden light.
