Marc 14
1 Or c’était la Pâque et les azymes deux jours après; et les princes des prêtres et les scribes cherchaient comment ils se saisiraient de lui par ruse, et le feraient mourir.
It was now two days before the Festival of the Passover and the unleavened bread. The chief priests and the teachers of the Law were looking for an opportunity to arrest Jesus by stealth, and to put him to death;
2 Mais ils disaient: Non pas un jour de la fête, de peur qu’il ne s’élevât quelque tumulte dans le peuple.
for they said, “Not during the Festival, or the people may riot.”
3 Et comme Jésus se trouvait à Béthanie, dans la maison de Simon le lépreux, et qu’il était à table, il vint une femme ayant un vase d’albâtre plein d’un parfum de nard d’épi d’un grand prix. Or, le vase rompu, elle répandit le parfum sur sa tête.
When Jesus was still at Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, while he was sitting at the table, a woman came with an alabaster jar of choice spikenard perfume of great value. She broke the jar, and poured the perfume on his head.
4 Quelques-uns s’en indignèrent en eux-mêmes, et ils disaient: Pourquoi avoir ainsi perdu ce parfum?
Some of those who were present said to one another indignantly, “Why has the perfume been wasted like this?
5 Il pouvait en effet, ce parfum, se vendre plus de trois cents deniers, et être donné aux pauvres. Et ils murmuraient contre elle.
This perfume could have been sold for more than a year’s wages, and the money given to the poor.”
6 Mais Jésus dit: Laissez-la: pourquoi lui faites-vous de la peine? C’est une bonne œuvre qu’elle a faite envers moi;
“Leave her alone,” said Jesus, as they began to find fault with her, “why are you troubling her? This is a beautiful deed that she has done for me.
7 Car les pauvres, vous les avez toujours avec vous, et quand vous voulez, vous pouvez leur faire du bien; mais moi, vous ne m’avez pas toujours.
You always have the poor with you, and whenever you wish you can do good to them; but you will not always have me.
8 Ce qu’a pu celle-ci, elle l’a fait; elle a d’avance parfumé mon corps pour la sépulture.
She has done what she could; she has perfumed my body beforehand for my burial.
9 En vérité, je vous le dis: Partout où sera prêché cet Evangile, dans le monde entier, ce que celle-ci vient de faire, sera même raconté en mémoire délie.
And I tell you, wherever, in the whole world, the good news is proclaimed, what this woman has done will be told in memory of her.”
10 Alors Judas Iscariote, un des douze, alla trouver les princes des prêtres, pour le leur livrer.
After this, Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, went to the chief priests, to betray Jesus to them.
11 Ceux-ci l’entendant, se réjouirent, et promirent de lui donner de l’argent. Aussi cherchait-il une occasion favorable pour le leur livrer.
They were glad to hear what he said, and promised to pay him. So he began looking for a good opportunity to betray Jesus.
12 Or le premier jour des azymes, auquel on immolait la pâque, ses disciples lui dirent: Où voulez-vous que nous allions vous préparer ce qu’il faut pour manger la pâque?
On the first day of the Festival of the unleavened bread, when it was customary to kill the Passover lambs, his disciples said to Jesus, “Where do you wish us to go and make preparations for your eating the Passover?”
13 Et il envoya deux de ses disciples, et leur dit: Allez dans la ville; vous rencontrerez un homme portant une cruche d’eau, suivez-le;
Jesus sent forward two of his disciples and said to them, “Go into the city, and there a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you; follow him;
14 Et, quelque part qu’il entre, dites au maître de la maison: Le Maître dit: Où est le lieu où je pourrai manger la pâque avec mes disciples?
and, wherever he goes in, say to the owner of the house ‘The teacher says – Where is my room where I am to eat the Passover with my disciples?’
15 Et il vous montrera un grand cénacle meublé; faites-y les préparatifs pour nous.
He will himself show you a large upstairs room, set out ready; and there make preparations for us.”
16 Ses disciples s’en allèrent donc; ils vinrent dans la ville, trouvèrent les choses comme il leur avait dit, et préparèrent la pâque.
So the disciples set out and went into the city, and found everything just as Jesus had told them; and they prepared the Passover.
17 Le soir étant venu, il vint avec les douze.
In the evening he went there with the Twelve,
18 Et comme ils étaient à table et qu’ils mangeaient, Jésus leur dit: En vérité, je vous le dis, un de vous qui mange avec moi me trahira.
and when they had taken their places and were eating, Jesus said, “I tell you that one of you is going to betray me – one who is eating with me.”
19 Alors les disciples commencèrent à s’attrister, et à lui demander chacun en particulier: Est-ce moi?
They were grieved at this, and began to say to him, one after another, “Can it be I?”
20 Il leur répondit: Un des douze, qui met avec moi la main dans le plat.
“It is one of you Twelve,” said Jesus, “the one who is dipping his bread beside me into the dish.
21 Pour le Fils de l’homme, il s’en va, ainsi qu’il est écrit de lui; mais malheur à l’ homme par qui le Fils de l’homme sera livré! Il vaudrait mieux pour cet homme qu’il ne fut pas né.
True, the Son of Man must go, as scripture says of him, yet alas for that man by whom the Son of Man is being betrayed! For that man it would be better never to have been born!”
22 Et pendant qu’ils mangeaient, Jésus prit du pain, et puis l’ayant béni, il le rompit, le leur donna, et dit: Prenez, ceci est mon corps.
While they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and, after saying the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, and said, “Take it; this is my body.”
23 Et, ayant pris le calice et rendu grâces, il le leur donna, et ils en burent tous.
Then he took a cup, and, after saying the thanksgiving, gave it to them, and they all drank from it.
24 Et il leur dit: Ceci est mon sang, le sang du Nouveau Testament, qui sera répandu pour un grand nombre.
“This is my covenant-blood,” he said, “which is poured out on behalf of many.
25 En vérité je vous le dis, je ne boirai plus de ce fruit de la vigne, jusqu’au jour où je le boirai nouveau dans le royaume de Dieu.
I tell you that I will never again drink of the fruit of the vine, until that day when I will drink it new in the kingdom of God.”
26 Et, l’hymne dit, ils s’en allèrent au mont des Oliviers.
They then sang a hymn, and went out up the Mount of Olives,
27 Et Jésus leur dit: Vous vous scandaliserez tous de moi cette nuit; car il est écrit: Je frapperai le pasteur, et les brebis se disperseront.
presently Jesus said to them, “All of you will fall away; for scripture says – ‘I will strike down the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’
28 Mais après que je serai ressuscité, je vous précéderai en Galilée.
Yet, after I have risen, I will go before you into Galilee.”
29 Pierre lui dit alors: Quand tous les autres se scandaliseraient de vous, moi, non.
“Even if everyone else falls away,” said Peter, “I will not.”
30 Et Jésus lui repartit: En vérité je te le dis, aujourd’hui, cette nuit même, avant qu’un coq ait chanté deux fois, tu me renieras trois fois.
“I tell you,” answered Jesus, “that you yourself today – yes, this very night – before the cock crows twice, will disown me three times.”
31 Mais Pierre insistait: Quand il me faudrait mourir avec vous, je ne vous renierai pas. Et tous disaient de même.
But Peter vehemently protested, “Even if I must die with you, I will never disown you!” And they all said the same.
32 Etant venu à une maison de campagne nommée Gethsémani, il dit à ses disciples: Asseyez-vous ici pendant que je prierai.
Presently they came to a garden known as Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples “Sit down here while I pray.”
33 Et il prit avec lui Pierre, Jacques et Jean, et il commença à s’effrayer et à tomber dans l’abattement.
He took with him Peter, James, and John; and began to show signs of great dismay and deep distress of mind.
34 Et il leur dit: Mon âme est triste jusqu’à la mort; demeurez ici et veillez.
“I am sad at heart,” he said, “sad even to death; wait here, and watch.”
35 Et, s’étant avancé un peu, il tomba la face contre terre, et il demandait que, s’il était possible, cette heure s’éloignât de lui.
Going on a little further, he threw himself on the ground, and began to pray that, if it were possible, he might be spared that hour.
36 Et il dit: Abba, Père, toutes choses vous sont possibles, éloignez ce calice de moi; toutefois, non ma volonté, mais la vôtre.
“Abba, Father,” he said, “all things are possible to you; take away this cup from me; yet, not what I will, but what you will.”
37 Il revint ensuite, et, comme il les trouva dormant, il dit à Pierre: Simon, tu dors? Tu n’as pas pu veiller une heure?
Then he came and found the three apostles asleep. “Simon,” he said to Peter, “are you asleep? Couldn’t you watch for one hour?
38 Veillez et priez, afin que vous n’entriez point en tentation. L’esprit est prompt, mais la chair est faible.
Watch and pray,” he said to them all, “so that you may not fall into temptation. True, the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
39 Et, s’en allant de nouveau, il priait, disant les mêmes paroles.
Again he went away, and prayed in the same words;
40 Etant revenu, il les trouva encore dormant (car leurs yeux étaient appesantis), et ils ne savaient que lui répondre.
and coming back again he found them asleep, for their eyes were heavy; and they did not know what to say to him.
41 Il vint une troisième fois et leur dit: Dormez maintenant et reposez-vous. C’est assez; l’heure est venue, voilà que le Fils de l’homme sera livré aux mains des pécheurs.
A third time he came, and said to them, “Sleep on now, and rest yourselves. Enough! My time has come. Look, the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of wicked people.
42 Levez-vous, allons; voici que celui qui me livrera approche.
Up, and let us be going. Look! My betrayer is close at hand.”
43 Jésus parlant encore. Judas Iscariote, l’un des douze, vint, et, avec lui, une grande troupe armée d’épées et de bâtons, et envoyée par les princes des prêtres, et par les scribes et les anciens.
And just then, while he was still speaking, Judas, who was one of the Twelve, came up; and with him a crowd of people, with swords and clubs, sent by the chief priests, the teachers of the Law, and the elders.
44 Or le traître leur avait donné un signe, disant: Celui que je baiserai, c’est lui-même, saisissez-le, et emmenez-le avec précaution.
Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them. “The man whom I kiss,” he had said, “will be the one; arrest him and take him away safely.”
45 Etant donc venu, il s’approcha aussitôt de lui, disant: Maître, je vous salue; et il le baisa.
As soon as Judas came, he went up to Jesus at once, and said, “Rabbi!” and kissed him.
46 Et eux mirent la main sur lui, et le saisirent.
Then the men seized Jesus, and arrested him.
47 Un de ceux qui étaient présents, tirant son épée, en frappa le serviteur du grand prêtre, et il lui coupa l’oreille.
One of those who were standing by drew his sword, and struck at the high priest’s servant, and cut off his ear.
48 Alors prenant la parole, Jésus leur dit: Vous êtes venus comme à un voleur, avec des épées et des bâtons, afin de me prendre.
But Jesus spoke up, and said to the men, “Have you come out, as if after a robber, with swords and clubs, to take me?
49 J’étais tous les jours parmi vous, enseignant dans le temple, et vous ne m’avez point pris; mais c’est pour que les Ecritures s’accomplissent.
I have been among you day after day in the Temple Courts teaching, and yet you did not arrest me; but this is in fulfillment of the scriptures.”
50 Alors ses disciples l’abandonnant, s’enfuirent tous.
And all the apostles deserted him and fled.
51 Un jeune homme le suivait, couvert seulement d’un linceul; ils se saisirent de lui.
One young man did indeed follow him, wrapped only in a linen sheet. They tried to arrest him;
52 Mais, laissant le linceul, il s’enfuit nu d’au milieu d’eux.
but he left the sheet in their hands, and fled naked.
53 Cependant ils amenèrent Jésus chez le grand prêtre, où s’assemblèrent tous les prêtres, et les scribes, et les anciens.
Then they took Jesus to the high priest; and all the chief priests, elders, and the teachers of the Law assembled.
54 Pierre le suivit de loin jusque dans la cour du grand prêtre; et il était assis près du feu avec les serviteurs, et se chauffait.
Peter, who had followed Jesus at a distance into the courtyard of the high priest, was sitting there among the guards, warming himself at the blaze of the fire.
55 Or les princes des prêtres et tout le conseil cherchaient un témoignage contre Jésus pour le faire mourir, et ils n’en trouvaient point.
Meanwhile the chief priest and the whole of the High Council were trying to get such evidence against Jesus as would warrant his being put to death, but they could not find any;
56 Car beaucoup témoignaient faussement contre lui; mais les témoignages ne s’accordaient point.
for, though there were many who gave false evidence against him, yet their evidence did not agree.
57 Et quelques-uns, se levant, portaient contre lui un faux témoignage, disant:
Presently some men stood up, and gave this false evidence against him –
58 Nous l’avons entendu dire: Je détruirai ce temple fait de main d’homme, et en trois jours j’en rebâtirai un autre non fait de main d’homme.
“We ourselves heard him say ‘I will destroy this Temple made with hands, and in three days build another made without hands.’”
59 Mais leur témoignage n’était pas uniforme.
Yet not even on that point did their evidence agree.
60 Alors le grand prêtre se levant au milieu d’eux interrogea Jésus, disant: Tu ne réponds rien à ce que ceux-ci déposent contre toi?
Then the high priest stood forward, and questioned Jesus. “Have you no answer to make?” he asked. “What is this evidence which these men are giving against you?”
61 Mais Jésus se taisait, et il ne répondit rien. Le grand prêtre l’interrogea de nouveau et lui dit: Es-tu le Christ, le Fils du Dieu béni?
But Jesus remained silent, and made no answer. A second time the high priest questioned him. “Are you,” he asked, “the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?”
62 Et Jésus lui dit: Je le suis; et vous verrez le Fils de l’homme assis à la droite de la majesté de Dieu, et venant sur les nuées du ciel.
“I am,” replied Jesus, “and you will all see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of the Almighty, and coming in the clouds of heaven.”
63 Alors le grand prêtre déchirant ses vêtements, dit: Qu’avons-nous encore besoin de témoins.
At this the high priest tore his vestments. “Why do we want any more witnesses?” he exclaimed.
64 Vous avez entendu le blasphème: que vous en semble? Tous le condamnèrent comme étant digne de mort.
“You heard his blasphemy? What is your verdict?” They all condemned him, declaring that he deserved death.
65 Aussitôt quelques-uns se mirent à cracher sur lui, à voiler sa face, à le déchirer à coups de poing et à lui dire: Prophétise! et les serviteurs le déchiraient de soufflets.
Some of those present began to spit at him, and to blindfold his eyes, and strike him, saying, as they did so, “Now play the prophet!” and even the guards received him with blows.
66 Et pendant que Pierre était en bas dans la cour, vint une des servantes du grand prêtre;
While Peter was in the courtyard down below, one of the high priest’s maidservants came up;
67 Et lorsqu’elle eut aperçu Pierre qui se chauffait, le regardant, elle dit: Toi aussi tu étais avec Jésus le Nazaréen.
and, seeing Peter warming himself, she looked closely at him, and exclaimed, “Why, you were with Jesus, the Nazarene!”
68 Mais il nia, disant: Je ne sais ni ne connais ce que tu veux dire. Et il sortit devant la cour, et un coq chanta.
But Peter denied it. “I do not know or understand what you mean,” he replied. Then he went out into the porch;
69 Or la servante l’ayant encore vu, dit à ceux qui étaient présents: Celui-ci est un d’entre eux.
and there the maidservant, on seeing him, began to say again to the bystanders, “This is one of them!”
70 Mais il le nia de nouveau. Et peu après ceux qui étaient là disaient à Pierre: Tu es certainement un d’entre eux, car tu es aussi Galiléen.
But Peter again denied it. Soon afterward the bystanders again said to him, “You certainly are one of them; why you are a Galilean!”
71 Alors il se mit à faire des imprécations et à jurer: Je ne connais point cet homme que vous dites.
But he said to them, “I swear that I do not know the man you are talking about! May God punish me if I am lying!”
72 Et aussitôt un coq chanta encore. Et Pierre se ressouvint de la parole que lui avait dite Jésus: Avant qu’un coq chante deux fois, tu me renieras trois fois. Et il se mit à pleurer.
At that moment, for the second time, a cock crowed; and Peter remembered the words that Jesus had said to him – ‘Before a cock has crowed twice, you will disown me three times’; and, as he thought of it, he began to weep.
