Luc 23
1 Et toute l’assemblée se levant, ils le menèrent à Pilate.
And the whole multitude of them arose, and led him unto Pilate.
2 Et ils commencèrent à l’accuser, disant: Nous avons trouvé celui-ci pervertissant notre nation, défendant de payer le tribut à César, et disant qu’il est Christ roi.
And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this [fellow] perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Cæsar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.
3 Or Pilate l’interrogea, disant: Es-tu le roi des Juifs? Jésus répondant, dit: Tu le dis.
And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest [it].
4 Alors Pilate dit aux princes des prêtres et à la multitude: Je ne trouve aucune cause de mort en cet homme.
Then said Pilate to the chief priests and [to] the people, I find no fault in this man.
5 Mais eux insistaient, disant: Il soulève le peuple, enseignant par toute la Judée, commençant par la Galilée jusqu’ici.
And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place.
6 Pilate entendant nommer la Galilée, demanda si cet homme était Galiléen.
When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilæan.
7 Et dès qu’il sut qu’il était de la juridiction d’Hérode, il le renvoya à Hérode, qui était lui-même à Jérusalem en ces jours-là.
And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time.
8 Hérode, voyant Jésus, s’en réjouit beaucoup; car il désirait depuis longtemps de le voir, parce qu’il avait entendu dire beaucoup de choses de lui, et qu’il espérait lui voir faire quelque miracle.
And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long [season], because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him.
9 Il lui faisait donc beaucoup de questions; mais Jésus ne lui répondait rien.
Then he questioned with him in many words; but he answered him nothing.
10 Cependant se trouvaient là les princes des prêtres et les scribes, l’accusant sans relâche.
And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused him.
11 Mais Hérode avec sa cour le méprisa; il se joua de lui après l’avoir revêtu d’une robe blanche, et il le renvoya à Pilate.
And Herod with his men of war set him at nought, and mocked [him], and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate.
12 Et Hérode et Pilate devinrent amis ce jour-là même; auparavant ils étaient ennemis l’un de l’autre.
And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves.
13 Or Pilate ayant convoqué les princes des prêtres, les magistrats et le peuple,
And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,
14 Leur dit: Vous m’avez présenté cet homme comme soulevant le peuple; et voilà que, l’interrogeant devant vous, je n’ai rien trouvé en lui de ce dont vous l’accusez,
Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and, behold, I, having examined [him] before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him:
15 Ni Hérode non plus; car je vous ai envoyés à lui, et on ne l’a convaincu de rien qui mérite la mort.
No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him.
16 Je le renverrai donc après l’avoir fait châtier.
I will therefore chastise him, and release [him].
17 Car il était obligé de leur remettre un prisonnier pendant la fête.
(For of necessity he must release one unto them at the feast.)
18 Mais la foule tout entière cria: Otez celui-ci du monde, et délivrez-nous Barabbas.
And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this [man], and release unto us Barabbas:
19 (Lequel, à cause d’une sédition qui s’était faite dans la ville, et d’un meurtre, avait été mis en prison.)
(Who for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.)
20 Pilate leur parla de nouveau, désirant renvoyer Jésus.
Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spake again to them.
21 Mais eux redoublaient leurs clameurs, disant: Crucifiez-le, crucifiez-le!
But they cried, saying, Crucify [him], crucify him.
22 Et Pilate, pour la troisième fois, leur dit: Mais quel mal a fait celui-ci? Je ne trouve aucune cause de mort en lui; je le châtierai donc et le renverrai.
And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let [him] go.
23 Mais ils insistaient avec de grands cris, demandant qu’on le crucifiât; et leurs cris devenaient de plus en plus forts.
And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed.
24 Et Pilate ordonna que ce qu’ils demandaient fût exécuté.
And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required.
25 Ainsi il leur délivra celui qui avait été mis en prison pour cause de sédition et de meurtre, et qu’ils demandaient, et il abandonna Jésus à leur volonté.
And he released unto them him that for sedition and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.
26 Or comme ils l’emmenaient, ils prirent un certain Simon de Cyrène, qui revenait des champs, et le chargèrent de porter la croix derrière Jésus.
And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear [it] after Jesus.
27 Or une grande foule de peuple et de femmes le suivaient, se frappant la poitrine et se lamentant sur lui.
And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented him.
28 Mais Jésus, se tournant vers elles, dit: Filles de Jérusalem, ne pleurez pas sur moi, mais pleurez sur vous-mêmes et sur vos enfants;
But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.
29 Car voici que viendront des jours où l’on dira: Heureuses les stériles, et les entrailles qui n’ont pas engendré, et les mamelles qui n’ont point allaité!
For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed [are] the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.
30 Alors ils commenceront à dire aux montagnes: Tombez sur nous: et aux collines: Couvrez-nous.
Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.
31 Car si l’on fait ainsi au bois vert, que sera-t-il fait au bois sec?
For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?
32 On conduisait aussi avec lui deux autres hommes qui étaient des malfaiteurs, pour les mettre à mort.
And there were also two other, malefactors, led with him to be put to death.
33 Et lorsqu’ils furent arrivés au lieu qui est appelé Calvaire, ils le crucifièrent, et les voleurs aussi, l’un à sa droite, et l’autre à sa gauche.
And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.
34 Mais Jésus disait: Mon Père, pardonnez-leur, car ils ne savent ce qu’ils font. Partageant ensuite ses vêtements, ils y jetèrent le sort.
Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
35 Et le peuple était là, regardant, et les chefs le raillaient avec le peuple, disant: Il a sauvé les autres; qu’il se sauve, s’il est le Christ, l’élu de Dieu.
And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided [him], saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God.
36 Les soldats mêmes, s’approchant, l’insultaient, lui présentant du vinaigre,
And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar,
37 Et disant: Si tu es le roi des Juifs, sauve-toi.
And saying, If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself.
38 Il y avait aussi au-dessus de lui une inscription où était écrit en caractères grecs, latins et hébreux: CELUI-CI EST LE ROI DES JUIFS.
And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
39 Or l’un des voleurs qui étaient suspendus en croix le blasphémait, disant: Si tu es le Christ, sauve-toi toi-même, et nous aussi.
And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.
40 Mais l’autre, répondant, le reprenait, disant: Ne crains-tu point Dieu, quand tu subis la même condamnation?
But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
41 Encore pour nous, c’est avec justice; car nous recevons ce que nos actions méritent; mais celui-ci n’a rien fait de mal.
And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.
42 Et il disait à Jésus: Seigneur, souvenez-vous de moi quand vous serez arrivé dans votre royaume.
And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
43 Et Jésus lui dit: En vérité, je te le dis, aujourd’hui tu seras avec moi dans le paradis.
And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
44 Il était environ la sixième heure, et les ténèbres couvrirent toute la terre jusqu’à la neuvième heure.
And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.
45 Et le soleil s’obscurcit, et le voile du temple se déchira par le milieu.
And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.
46 Alors, criant d’une voix forte, Jésus dit: Mon Père, je remets mon esprit entre vos mains. Et disant cela, il expira.
And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.
47 Or le centurion voyant ce qui était arrivé, glorifia Dieu, disant: Vraiment cet homme était juste.
Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.
48 Et toute la multitude de ceux qui assistaient à ce spectacle, et qui voyaient ce qui se passait, s’en retournaient, frappant leur poitrine.
And all the people that came together to that sight, beholding the things which were done, smote their breasts, and returned.
49 Tous ceux de la connaissance de Jésus, et les femmes qui l’avaient suivi de Galilée, se tenaient à l’écart, considérant toutes ces choses.
And all his acquaintance, and the women that followed him from Galilee, stood afar off, beholding these things.
50 Mais voilà qu’un décurion nommé Joseph, homme bon et juste,
And, behold, [there was] a man named Joseph, a counsellor; [and he was] a good man, and a just:
51 Qui n’avait consenti ni au dessein, ni aux actes des autres, et qui était d’Arimathie, ville de Galilée, et attendait lui-même le royaume de Dieu,
(The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them; ) [he was] of Arimathæa, a city of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of God.
52 Vint vers Pilate, et lui demanda le corps de Jésus
This [man] went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.
53 Et l’ayant détaché de la croix, il l’enveloppa d’un linceul, et le mit dans un sépulcre taillé dans le roc, où personne n’avait encore été mis.
And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.
54 Or c’était le jour de la préparation, et le sabbat allait commencer.
And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.
55 Les femmes qui étaient venues de la Galilée avec Jésus ayant suivi Joseph, virent le sépulcre, et comment le corps de Jésus y avait été mis.
And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.
56 Et s’en retournant, elles préparèrent des aromates et des parfums; et pendant le sabbat, elles demeurèrent en repos, selon la loi.
And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.
