Luc 2
1 Or il arriva en ces jours-là qu’il parut un édit de César Auguste, pour qu’on fît le dénombrement des habitants de toute la terre.
Now it came to pass, in those days, that there went forth a decree from Caesar Augustus, for all the inhabited earth to be enrolled:
2 Ce premier dénombrement fut fait par Cyrinus, gouverneur de Syrie;
this enrolment, first was made while Cyrenius was governor of Syria:
3 Et tous allaient se faire inscrire, chacun dans sa ville.
and all were journeying to be enrolled, each one unto his own city.
4 Joseph aussi monta de Nazareth, ville de Galilée, en Judée, dans la ville de David, qui est appelée Bethléem, parce qu’il était de la maison et de la famille de David,
And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of a city Nazareth, into Judaea, into the city of David which is called Bethlehem; because he was of the house and family of David:
5 Pour se faire inscrire avec Marie, son épouse, qui était enceinte.
to enrol himself with Mary who was betrothed to him, she being with child.
6 Or il arriva que lorsqu’ils étaient là, les jours où elle devait enfanter furent accomplis.
And it came to pass, while they were there, that the days were fulfilled for her to give birth;
7 Et elle enfanta son fils premier-né, et l’ayant enveloppé de langes, elle le coucha dans la crèche, parce qu’il n’y avait point de place pour eux dans l’hôtellerie.
and she gave birth to her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
8 Or en la même contrée se trouvaient des bergers qui passaient la nuit dans les champs, veillant tour à tour à la garde de leurs troupeaux.
And there were, shepherds, in the same country, dwelling in the fields, and keeping the watches of the night over their flock.
9 Et voilà qu’un ange du Seigneur se présenta devant eux, et une lumière divine les environna, et ils furent saisis d’une grande crainte.
And, a messenger of the Lord, stood over them, and, a glory of the Lord, shone round about them; and they feared, a great fear.
10 Mais l’ange leur dit: Ne craignez point, car voici que je vous apporte la bonne nouvelle d’une grande joie pour tout le peuple;
And the messenger said unto them—Be not afraid! For lo! I bring you good tidings of a great joy, the which shall be for all the people:
11 C’est qu’il vous est né aujourd’hui, dans la ville de David, un Sauveur, qui est le Christ-Seigneur.
That there hath been born unto you, this day, a saviour, —Who is Christ the Lord—in the city of David!
12 Et ceci sera pour vous le signe: Vous trouverez un enfant enveloppé de langes et couché dans une crèche.
And, this, to you is, a sign: Ye shall find a babe, wrapped in swaddling clothes, and lying in a manger.
13 Au même instant se joignit à l’ange une multitude de la milice céleste, louant Dieu, et disant:
And, suddenly, there came to be, with the messenger, the throng of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying—
14 Gloire à Dieu au plus haut des cieux, et, sur la terre, paix aux hommes de bonne volonté.
Glory, in the highest, unto God! And, on earth, peace, among men of goodwill.
15 Et il arriva que lorsque les anges, remontant au ciel, les eurent quittés, les bergers se disaient les uns aux autres: Passons jusqu’à Bethléem, et voyons ce prodige qui est arrivé, et que le Seigneur nous a fait connaître.
And it came to pass, when the messengers had departed from them into heaven, that, the shepherds, began to say one to another—Let us go through forthwith as far as to Bethlehem, and see this thing which hath come to pass, which the Lord hath made known to us.
16 Ils vinrent donc en grande hâte, et ils trouvèrent Marie et Joseph, et l’enfant couché dans une crèche.
And they came, with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in the manger.
17 Or, en le voyant, ils reconnurent la parole qui leur avait été dite sur cet enfant.
Now, when they beheld, they made known concerning the thing which had been told them as to this child.
18 Et tous ceux qui en entendirent parler admirèrent ce qui leur avait été raconté par les bergers.
And, all who heard, marvelled concerning the things which had been told by the shepherds unto them;
19 Or Marie conservait toutes ces choses, les repassant dans son cœur.
but, Mary, was closely observing, all, these things, putting them together in her heart.
20 Et les bergers s’en retournèrent, glorifiant et louant Dieu de toutes les choses qu’ils avaient entendues et vues, comme il leur avait été annoncé.
And the shepherds returned, giving glory and singing praise unto God, over all things which they had heard and seen, according as it had been told unto them.
21 Cependant les huit jours pour circoncire l’enfant étant accomplis, il fut nommé Jésus, nom que l’ange lui avait donné, avant qu’il fut conçu dans le sein de sa mère.
And, when eight days were fulfilled for circumcising him, then was his name called, Jesus, —which it was called by the messenger, before he was conceived in the womb.
22 Et après que les jours de la purification de Marie furent accomplis selon la loi de Moïse, ils le portèrent à Jérusalem pour le présenter au Seigneur,
And, when the days of their purification, according to the law of Moses, were fulfilled, they took him up into Jerusalem, to present [him] unto the Lord, —
23 Comme il est écrit dans la loi du Seigneur: Tout mâle ouvrant un sein sera appelé consacré au Seigneur;
according as it is written in the law of the Lord—Every male that is a firstborn, Holy unto the Lord, shall be called,
24 Et pour offrir l’hostie selon ce qui est dit dans la loi du Seigneur, une couple de tourterelles, ou deux petits de colombes.
and to give a sacrifice, according to that which is said in the law of the Lord—A pair of turtle-doves, or two young pigeons.
25 Or il y avait à Jérusalem un homme appelé Siméon, et cet homme juste et craignant Dieu attendait la consolation d’Israël, et l’Esprit-Saint était en lui.
And lo! there was, a man, in Jerusalem, whose name, was Symeon; and, this man, was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and Holy Spirit was upon him;
26 Et il avait été averti par l’Esprit-Saint qu’il ne verrait point la mort, qu’auparavant il n’eût vu le Christ du Seigneur.
and it had been intimated to him by the Holy Spirit, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Christ of the Lord.
27 Conduit par l’Esprit, il vint dans le temple. Et comme les parents de l’enfant Jésus l’y apportaient, afin de faire pour lui selon la coutume prescrite par la loi,
And he came, in the Spirit, into the temple; and, when the parents brought in the child Jesus, that they might do according to that which was customary by the law concerning it,
28 Il le prit entre ses bras, bénit Dieu, et dit:
even he, welcomed it into his arms, and blessed God, and said—
29 Maintenant, Seigneur, laissez, selon votre parole, votre serviteur s’en aller en paix;
Now, dost thou dismiss thy servant, O Sovereign, according to thy declaration—in peace;
30 Puisque mes yeux ont vu le Sauveur qui vient de vous,
Because mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
31 Que vous avez préparé à la face de tous les peuples;
Which thou hast prepared in face of all the peoples:
32 Pour être la lumière qui éclairera les nations, et la gloire d’Israël, votre peuple.
A light for the unveiling of nations, and the glory of thy people Israel.
33 Et son père et sa mère étaient dans l’admiration des choses que l’on disait de lui.
And his father and mother were marvelling over the things which were being spoken concerning him.
34 Et Siméon les bénit et dit à Marie, sa mère: Celui-ci a été établi pour la ruine et la résurrection d’un grand nombre en Israël, et en signe que l’on contredira;
And Symeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother—Lo! this one, is being set for the falling and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign to be spoken against;
35 Et un glaive traversera votre âme, afin que les pensées de beaucoup de cœurs soient révélées.
And, thou! through thy very soul, shall pass a sword, that, reasonings, may be revealed, out of many hearts.
36 Il y avait aussi une prophétesse, Anne, fille de Phanuel, de la tribu d’Aser; elle était fort avancée en âge, et elle avait vécu sept ans avec son mari, depuis sa virginité;
And there was one Anna, a prophetess, daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher; —the same, advanced in many days; having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity,
37 Restée veuve, et âgée alors de quatre-vingt-quatre ans, elle ne quittait point le temple, servant Dieu nuit et jour dans les jeûnes et dans la prière.
and, she, had been a widow for as long as eighty-four years, —who left not the temple, with fastings and supplications, rendering divine service night and day; —
38 Elle aussi, survenant, à cette même heure, louait le Seigneur, et parlait de l’enfant à tous ceux qui attendaient la rédemption d’Israël.
and, in that very hour, coming near, she began to give thanks unto God, and to speak concerning him unto all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.
39 Après qu’ils eurent tout accompli selon la loi du Seigneur, ils retournèrent en Galilée, à Nazareth, leur ville.
And, when they had finished all things that were according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, into their own city, Nazareth.
40 Cependant l’enfant croissait et se fortifiait, plein de sagesse; et la grâce de Dieu était en lui.
And, the child, went on growing, and waxing strong, becoming filled with wisdom; and, the favour of God, was upon it.
41 Or ses parents allaient tous les ans à Jérusalem à la fête de Pâque.
And his parents used to journey yearly into Jerusalem, at the feast of the passover.
42 Lors donc qu’il eut douze ans, ils montèrent à Jérusalem selon la coutume de cette solennité;
And, when he became twelve years, and they went up, according to the custom of the feast,
43 Et, quand les jours de la fête furent passés, ils s’en retournèrent; mais l’enfant Jésus demeura à Jérusalem, et ses parents ne s’en aperçurent point.
and completed the days, and then were returning, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, —and his parents noticed it not;
44 Pensant qu’il était avec quelqu’un de leur compagnie, ils marchèrent durant un jour, et ils le cherchaient parmi leurs proches et leurs connaissances.
but, supposing him to be in the company, went a day’s journey, and then began to seek for him among their kinsfolk and acquaintances,
45 Et ne le trouvant pas, ils revinrent à Jérusalem pour le chercher.
and, not finding him, returned unto Jerusalem, seeking him.
46 Mais il arriva que trois jours après ils le trouvèrent dans le temple, assis au milieu des docteurs, les écoutant et les interrogeant.
And it came to pass, that, after three days, they found him in the temple, sitting amidst the teachers, —both hearkening unto them, and questioning them.
47 Et tous ceux qui l’entendaient étaient étonnés de sa sagesse et de ses réponses.
Now all who heard him were beside themselves, because of his understanding and his answers.
48 En le voyant, ils furent étonnés, et sa mère lui dit: Mon fils, pourquoi avez-vous agi ainsi avec nous? Voilà que votre père et moi, fort affligés, nous vous cherchions.
And, when they behold him, they were astounded, and his mother said unto him—Child! why, hast thou dealt with us, thus? Lo! thy father and I, in anguish, were seeking thee.
49 Mais il leur répondit: Pourquoi me cherchiez-vous? Ignoriez-vous qu’il faut que je sois aux choses qui regardent mon Père?
And he said unto them—Why was it that ye were seeking me? Perceived ye not, that, in the courts of my Father, I must needs be?
50 Mais eux ne comprirent point ce qu’il leur disait.
And, they, understood not the thing which he spake to them.
51 Il descendit ensuite avec eux, et vint à Nazareth; et il leur était soumis. Or sa mère conservait toutes ces choses en son cœur.
And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was submitting himself unto them. And, his mother, was closely observing all these things in her heart.
52 Cependant Jésus avançait en sagesse, en âge et en grâce devant Dieu et devant les hommes.
And, Jesus, went on advancing in wisdom, and in stature, and in favour with God and men.
