Lévitique 20
1 Le Seigneur parla encore à Moïse, disant:
And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
2 Tu diras ces choses aux enfants d’Israël: Si quelque homme d’entre les enfants d’Israël, et d’entre les étrangers qui habitent en Israël, donne de ses enfants à l idole de Moloch, qu’il meure de mort: le peuple du pays le lapidera,
You shall speak these things to the sons of Israel: A man among the sons Israel, or among the newcomers who live in Israel, if he will have given from his seed to the idol Moloch, he shall be put to death: the people of the land shall stone him.
3 Et moi, je poserai ma face contre lui, et je le retrancherai du milieu de son peuple, parce qu’il a donné de ses enfants à Moloch, qu’il a souillé mon sanctuaire, et qu’il a profané mon saint nom.
And I will set my face against him. And I will cut him down from the midst of his people, because he has given from his seed to Moloch, and he has contaminated my Sanctuary, and polluted my holy name.
4 Que si le peuple du pays négligeant et estimant peu mon commandement, laisse aller l’homme qui a donné de ses enfants à Moloch, et ne veut point le tuer,
But if the people of the land, having been neglectful and holding little regard for my authority, release the man who has given from his seed to Moloch, and they are not willing to kill him,
5 Je poserai ma face sur cet homme et sur sa parenté, et je le retrancherai lui et tous ceux qui auront consenti à ce qu’il forniquât avec Moloch, du milieu de son peuple.
I will set my face over that man and over his kindred, and I will cut down both him and all who consented with him to fornicate with Moloch, from the midst of their people.
6 Un homme qui ira vers les magiciens et les devins et forniquera avec eux, je poserai ma face contre lui, et je l’exterminerai du milieu de son peuple.
The soul who will have turned aside to astrologers and soothsayers, and who will have fornicated with them, I will set my face against him, and I will destroy him from the midst of his people.
7 Sanctifiez-vous et soyez saints, parce que c’est moi qui suis le Seigneur votre Dieu.
Be sanctified and be holy, for I am the Lord your God.
8 Gardez mes préceptes et exécutez-les. Je suis le Seigneur qui vous sanctifie.
Observe my precepts, and do them. I am the Lord, who sanctifies you.
9 Que celui qui maudit son père ou sa mère, meure de mort: c’est son père et sa mère qu’il a maudits, que son sang soit sur lui.
Whoever curses his father or mother shall die a death; he has cursed his father and mother. So let his blood be upon him.
10 Si quelqu’un abuse de la femme d’un autre, et commet un adultère avec la femme de son prochain, qu’ils meurent de mort, et l’homme adultère et la femme adultère.
If anyone will have committed sexual acts with the wife of another, or will have perpetrated adultery with his neighbor’s spouse, they shall die a death, both the adulterer and the adulteress.
11 Que celui qui dort avec sa belle-mère, et découvre l’ignominie de son père, meure avec elle: que leur sang soit sur eux.
Whoever will have slept with his stepmother, or will have uncovered the shame of his father, they shall both die a death. So let their blood be upon them.
12 Si quelqu’un dort avec sa belle-fille, que l’un et l’autre meurent, parce que c’est un crime qu’ils ont commis: que leur sang soit sur eux.
If any man will have slept with his daughter-in-law, both shall die, for they have acted according to wickedness. So let their blood be upon them.
13 Celui qui dort avec un homme comme avec une femme, l’un et l’autre a fait une action horrible; qu’ils meurent de mort: que leur sang soit sur eux.
If any man has slept with a male in place of sexual intercourse with a female, both have committed a nefarious act, they shall die a death. So let their blood be upon them.
14 Celui qui, outre la fille devenue sa femme, a épousé la mère, a commis un crime: il sera brûlé vif avec elles, et une action aussi horrible ne persistera pas au milieu de vous.
If any man, having taken the daughter as a wife, will have married her mother, he has acted according to wickedness. He shall be burnt alive with them. Neither shall so great a nefarious act persist in your midst.
15 Que celui qui s’approchera d’une bête de gros ou de menu bétail, meure de mort: tuez aussi la bête.
Whoever will have committed sexual acts with any animal or cattle, he shall die a death. Likewise, you shall slay the beast.
16 Une femme qui ira avec une bête quelle qu’elle soit, sera tuée avec elle: que leur sang soit sur elles.
The woman who will have lain under any animal at all shall be destroyed together with it. So let their blood be upon them.
17 Si quelqu’un prend sa sœur, fille de son père, ou fille de sa mère et voit sa nudité, et que cette sœur aperçoive l’ignominie de son frère, ils ont fait une chose horrible: ils seront tués en la présence de leur peuple, parce qu’ils ont découvert leur nudité l’un à l’autre, et ils porteront leur iniquité.
Whoever will have taken his sister, the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother, and will have seen her nakedness, and she will have looked upon her brother’s shame, they have committed a nefarious act. They shall be slain in the sight of their people, because they have uncovered one another’s nakedness. And they shall bear their iniquity.
18 Celui qui s’approche d’une femme pendant ses mois et révèle sa nudité, et qu’elle-même se fasse voir en cet état, ils seront exterminés tous les deux du milieu de leur peuple.
Whoever has sexual intercourse with a woman in her menstrual flow, and has uncovered her nakedness, and she has opened the fountain of her blood, both shall be destroyed from the midst of their people.
19 Tu ne découvriras point la nudité de ta tante maternelle et de ta tante paternelle: celui qui le fait, met à nu l’ignominie de sa chair; ils porteront tous deux leur iniquité.
You shall not expose the nakedness of your maternal or paternal aunt. Whoever does this has laid bare the shame of his own flesh; both shall bear their iniquity.
20 Celui qui s’approche de la femme de son oncle paternel ou de son oncle maternel, et révèle l’ignominie de sa parenté, il portera comme elle son péché: ils mourront sans enfants.
If any man has had sexual intercourse with the wife of his paternal or maternal uncle, and he has uncovered the shame of his close relative, both shall bear their sin. They shall die without children.
21 Celui qui a épousé la femme de son frère, a fait une chose illicite; il a révélé la honte de son frère: il sera ainsi qu’elle sans enfants.
Whoever will have married his brother’s wife has done an unlawful thing; he has uncovered his brother’s nakedness. They shall be without children.
22 Gardez mes lois et mes ordonnances, et exécutez-les, afin qu’elle ne vous vomisse point aussi, la terre dans laquelle vous devez entrer, et vous devez habiter.
Observe my laws as well as my judgments, and act according to them, lest the land, into which you will enter and live, may vomit you out, too.
23 Ne marchez point dans les lois des nations que je dois chasser moi-même devant vous. Car elles ont fait toutes ces choses, et je les ai eues en abomination.
Do not be willing to walk by the ordinances of the nations, which I will expel before you. For they have done all these things, and so I abominate them.
24 Mais à vous, je dis: Possédez leur terre que je vous donnerai en héritage, terre où coulent du lait et du miel. Je suis votre Dieu, qui vous ai séparés de tous les autres peuples.
But I say to you: Possess their land, which I will give to you as an inheritance, a land flowing with milk and honey. I am the Lord your God, who has separated you from the other peoples.
25 Séparez donc, vous aussi, la bête pure de l’impure et l’oiseau pur de l’impur; ne souillez point vos âmes par les bêtes, par les oiseaux et par tout ce qui se meut sur la terre, et que je vous ai montré être impur.
Therefore, you must also separate the clean animals from the unclean, and the clean birds from the unclean. Do not pollute your souls with cattle, or birds, or anything that moves upon the earth, and which I have shown you to be unclean.
26 Vous me serez saints, parce que je suis saint, moi le Seigneur, et je vous ai séparés de tous les autres peuples, afin que vous fussiez à moi.
You shall be holy unto me, because I, the Lord, am holy, and I have separated you from the other peoples, so that you would be mine.
27 Qu’un homme ou une femme, dans lesquels se trouve un esprit de python ou de divination, meurent de mort: on les lapidera; que leur sang soit sur eux.
A man or a woman, in whom there is an oracle-like or a divining spirit, shall be put to death. They shall stone them. So let their blood be upon them.
