Lévitique 16
1 Or, le Seigneur parla à Moïse après la mort des deux fils d’Aaron, quand, offrant un feu étranger, ils furent tués;
And the Lord spoke to Moses, after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they were destroyed for offering strange fire.
2 Et il lui ordonna, disant: Dis à Aaron ton frère, qu’il n’entre pas en tout temps dans le sanctuaire, qui est au dedans du voile devant le propitiatoire dont l’arche est couverte, de peur qu’il ne meure (car j’apparaîtrai dans la nuée sur l’oracle),
And he instructed him, saying: Speak to your brother Aaron, so that he may not, at any time, enter into the Sanctuary, which is within the veil, before the propitiatory by which the ark is covered, so that he may not die, (for I will appear in a cloud above the oracle)
3 S’il ne fait pas auparavant ces choses: il offrira un veau pour le péché et un bélier en holocauste.
unless he will have done these things beforehand. He shall offer a calf for sin, and a ram as a holocaust.
4 Il se revêtira d’une tunique de lin, couvrira de caleçons de lin sa nudité; il se ceindra d’une ceinture de lin; il mettra une tiare de lin sur sa tête; car ces vêtements sont saints; il les revêtira tous, lorsqu’il se sera lavé.
He shall be vested with a linen tunic. He shall conceal his nakedness with linen undergarments. He shall be wrapped with a linen belt, and he shall impose a linen headdress on his head. For these are holy vestments. All of these he shall put on, after he has been washed.
5 Il recevra ensuite de la multitude des enfants d’Israël deux boucs pour le péché et un bélier en holocauste.
And he shall receive, from the entire multitude of the sons of Israel, two he-goats for sin, and one ram as a holocaust.
6 Et lorsqu’il aura offert le veau, et qu’il aura prié pour lui et pour sa maison,
And when he has presented the calf, and has prayed for himself and for his own house,
7 Il présentera les deux boucs devant le Seigneur à la porte du tabernacle de témoignage;
he shall cause the two he-goats to stand in the sight of the Lord at the entrance to the tabernacle of the testimony.
8 Et jetant le sort sur les deux, un sort pour le Seigneur, et l’autre pour le bouc émissaire,
And casting lots over them both, one is to be offered to the Lord, and the other is to be the emissary goat.
9 Celui dont le sort sera sorti pour le Seigneur, il l’offrira pour le péché;
The one whose lot fell out to be offered to the Lord, he shall offer for sin.
10 Mais celui dont le sort sera sorti pour le bouc émissaire, il le présentera vivant devant le Seigneur pour répandre des prières sur lui, et l’envoyer dans le désert;
But the one who is to be the emissary goat shall stand before the Lord, so that he may pour the prayers upon him, and may send him away into the wilderness.
11 Ces choses faites avec solennité selon les rites, il offrira le veau, et priant pour lui-même et pour sa maison, il l’immolera:
After these things have been duly celebrated, he shall offer the calf, and praying for himself and for his own house, he shall immolate it.
12 Puis, ayant pris l’encensoir qu’il aura rempli de charbons de l’autel, et prenant de la main le parfum composé pour être brûlé, il entrera au dedans du voile dans les lieux saints;
And taking up the censer, which he has filled from the burning coals of the altar, and drawing up with his hands the aromatic compound for incense, he shall enter within the veil, into the holy place,
13 Afin que les parfums étant mis sur le feu, leur fumée et leur vapeur couvre l’oracle, qui est sur le témoignage, et qu’il ne meure point.
so that when the aromatics are placed upon the fire, its cloud and vapor may cover the oracle, which is above the testimony, and he may not die.
14 Il prendra aussi du sang de veau, et il fera l’aspersion avec le doigt sept fois contre le propitiatoire du côté de l’orient,
Likewise, he shall take some of the blood of the calf, and sprinkle it with his finger seven times opposite the propitiatory, toward the east.
15 Et lorsqu’il aura immolé le bouc pour le péché du peuple, il apportera son sang au dedans du voile, comme il a ordonné pour le sang du veau, afin qu’il fasse l’aspersion vis-à-vis de l’oracle,
And when he has slain the he-goat for the sin of the people, he shall carry its blood within the veil, just as he was instructed to do with the blood of the calf, so that he may sprinkle it away from the area of the oracle,
16 Et qu’il purifie le sanctuaire des impuretés des enfants d’Israël, de leurs prévarications et de tous leurs péchés. Il purifiera selon ce rite le tabernacle de témoignage, qui est dressé parmi eux au milieu des souillures de leur habitation.
and so that he may expiate the Sanctuary from the uncleanness of the sons of Israel, and from their prevarications and every one of their sins. According to this rite, he shall act toward the tabernacle of the testimony, which is fixed among them in the midst of the filth of their habitation.
17 Que nul homme ne soit dans le tabernacle, quand le pontife entrera dans le sanctuaire, afin de prier pour lui-même et pour sa maison et pour toute l’assemblée d’Israël, jusqu’à ce qu’il sorte.
Let no man be in the tabernacle when the high priest enters the Sanctuary in order to pray for himself, and for his house, and for the entire assembly of Israel, until he exits.
18 Mais lorsqu’il sera sorti pour venir à l’autel qui est devant le Seigneur, qu’il prie pour lui-même, et après avoir pris du sang du veau et du bouc, qu’il le répande sur les cornes de l’autel tout autour,
And when he has exited to the altar which is before the Lord, let him pray for himself, and taking the blood of the calf, and of the he-goat, let him pour it upon its horns all around.
19 Et que faisant l’aspersion avec le doigt sept fois, il le purifie et le sanctifie des impuretés des enfants d’Israël.
And sprinkling with his finger seven times, let him expiate and sanctify it from the uncleanness of the sons of Israel.
20 Après qu’il aura purifié le sanctuaire, le tabernacle et l’autel, qu’il offre alors le bouc vivant;
After he has cleansed the Sanctuary, and the tabernacle, and the altar, then let him offer the living goat.
21 Et, les deux mains posées sur sa tête, qu’il confesse toutes les iniquités des enfants d’Israël, tous leurs délits et tous leurs péchés; et les appelant sur sa tête, il l’enverra par un homme choisi pour cela, dans le désert.
And placing both hands upon its head, let him confess all the iniquities of the sons of Israel, and all of their offenses and sins. And calling these down upon its head, he shall send it away, by means of a man prepared to do so, into the desert.
22 Et lorsque le bouc aura porté toutes leurs iniquités dans une terre solitaire, et qu’il aura été lâché dans le désert,
And when the goat has carried all their iniquities into a solitary land, and has been released into the desert,
23 Aaron retournera au tabernacle de témoignage, et se dépouillant des vêtements dont il était auparavant revêtu, quand il entrait dans le sanctuaire, et les laissant là,
Aaron shall return into the tabernacle of the testimony. And placing aside the vestments, which he had worn before when he entered into the Sanctuary, and leaving them there,
24 Il lavera sa chair dans un lieu saint, et il se revêtira de ses vêtements. Et après qu’étant sorti, il aura offert son holocauste et celui du peuple, il priera tant pour lui-même que pour le peuple;
he shall wash his flesh in the holy place, and he shall be clothed in his own garments. And departing afterwards, he shall present his own holocaust and that of the people: he shall pray as much for himself as for the people.
25 Et la graisse qui a été offerte pour les péchés, il la brûlera sur l’autel.
And the fat which is offered for sins, he shall burn upon the altar.
26 Quant à celui qui aura conduit le bouc émissaire, il lavera ses vêtements et son corps dans l’eau, et c’est ainsi qu’il entrera dans le camp.
Yet truly, he who has sent away the emissary goat shall wash his clothes and his body with water, and so he shall enter into the camp.
27 Mais le veau et le bouc qui avaient été immolés pour le péché et dont le sang avait été porté dans le sanctuaire pour que l’expiation fût accomplie, on les emportera hors du camp, et on brûlera au feu, tant leur peau, que leur chair et leur fiente;
But the calf and the he-goat, which were immolated for sin, and whose blood was brought into the Sanctuary to complete the expiation, these shall be carried outside the camp and be burned with fire: as with their skins, so also with their flesh and dung.
28 Et quiconque les aura brûlées, lavera ses vêtements et sa chair dans l’eau, et c’est ainsi qu’il entrera dans le camp.
And whoever will have burned them shall wash his clothes and flesh with water, and so he shall enter into the camp.
29 Or ceci sera pour vous une loi perpétuelle: Au septième mois, au dixième jour du mois, vous affligerez vos âmes, vous ne ferez aucun travail, soit l’indigène, soit l’étranger qui séjournent parmi vous.
And this shall be to you an everlasting ordinance. In the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall afflict your souls, and you shall do no work, neither someone native born, nor the newcomer who sojourns among you.
30 En ce jour-là sera votre expiation, et la purification de tous vos péchés; c’est devant le Seigneur que vous serez purifiés;
On this day, there shall be atonement for you, and also a cleansing from all your sins. You shall be cleansed in the sight of the Lord.
31 Car c’est un sabbat de repos, et vous affligerez vos âmes par un culte perpétuel.
For it is a Sabbath of rest, and you shall afflict your souls as a perpetual observance.
32 Or il fera la purification, le prêtre qui aura été oint et dont les mains auront été consacrées, pour exercer les fonctions du sacerdoce à la place de son père: et il sera revêtu de la robe de lin et des vêtements saints,
And the priest who has been anointed, and whose hands have been consecrated to exercise the priesthood in the place of his father, shall make atonement. And he shall be clothed with the linen robe and the holy vestments.
33 Et il purifiera le sanctuaire, le tabernacle de témoignage et l’autel, les prêtres aussi et tout le peuple.
And he shall expiate the Sanctuary and the tabernacle of the testimony and the altar, likewise the priest and all the people.
34 Et ce sera pour vous une loi perpétuelle, que vous priiez pour les enfants d’Israël et pour tous leurs péchés une fois dans l’année. Moïse fit donc comme lui avait ordonné le Seigneur.
And this shall be to you a perpetual law, that you pray for the sons of Israel, and for all their sins once a year. Therefore, he did just as the Lord had instructed Moses.
