Juges 4
1 Et les enfants d’Israël recommencèrent à faire le mal en la présence du Seigneur après la mort d’Aod,
And the children of Israel began againe to do wickedly in the sight of the Lord when Ehud was dead.
2 Et le Seigneur les livra aux mains de Jabin, roi de Chanaan, qui régna dans Asor; or, il avait pour général de son armée un homme du nom de Sisara; et lui-même habitait à Haroseth des nations.
And the Lord sold them into the hande of Iabin King of Canaan, that reigned in Hazor, whose chiefe Captaine was called Sisera, which dwelt in Harosheth of the Gentiles.
3 Et les enfants d’Israël crièrent au Seigneur; car Jabin avait neuf cents chars armés de faux; et pendant vingt ans il les avait violemment opprimés.
Then the children of Israel cryed vnto the Lord: (for he had nine hundreth charets of yron, and twentie yeeres he had vexed the children of Israel very sore)
4 Or, c’était Debbora, prophétesse, femme de Lapidoth, laquelle jugeait le peuple en ce temps-là.
And at that time Deborah a Prophetesse the wife of Lapidoth iudged Israel.
5 Et elle s’asseyait sous un palmier, qui était appelé de son nom, entre Rama et Béthel sur la montagne d’Ephraïm; et les enfants d’Israël montaient vers elle, pour tous les jugements.
And this Deborah dwelt vnder a palme tree, betweene Ramah and Beth-el in mount Ephraim, and the children of Israel came vp to her for iudgement.
6 Elle envoya et appela Barac, fils d’Abinoem de Cédés de Nephthali, et elle lui dit: Le Seigneur Dieu d’Israël te l’ordonne, va, et conduis l’armée sur la montagne de Thabor, et tu prendras avec toi dix mille combattants des enfants de Nephthali et des enfants de Zabulon:
Then shee sent and called Barak the sonne of Abinoam out of Kadesh of Naphtali, and sayd vnto him, Hath not the Lord God of Israel commanded, saying, Goe, and drawe towarde mount Tabor, and take with thee ten thousande men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun?
7 Or moi-même je t’amènerai à l’endroit du torrent de Cison, Sisara, prince de l’armée de Jabin, ses chars et toute sa multitude, et je les livrerai en ta main.
And I wil drawe vnto thee to the riuer Kishon Sisera, the captaine of Iabins armie with his charets, and his multitude, and wil deliuer him into thine hand.
8 Et Barac lui répondit: Si vous venez avec moi, j’irai; si vous ne voulez pas venir avec moi, je n’irai pas.
And Barak sayd vnto her, If thou wilt go with me, I will go: but if thou wilt not goe with me, I will not go.
9 Debbora lui repartit: J’irai assurément avec toi; mais pour cette fois la victoire ne te sera point attribuée, parce que c’est dans la main d’une femme que sera livré Sisara. C’est pourquoi Debbora se leva et s’en alla avec Barac à Cédés.
Then shee answered, I will surely goe with thee, but this iourney that thou takest, shall not be for thine honour: for the Lord shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh.
10 Barac, ayant mandé Zabulon et Nephthali, monta avec dix mille combattants, accompagné de Debbora.
And Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh, and he went vp on his feete with ten thousand men, and Deborah went vp with him.
11 Or Haber le Cinéen s’était retiré depuis longtemps de tous ses autres frères, les Cinéens, fils d’Hobab, parent de Moïse, et il avait tendu ses tabernacles jusqu’à la vallée qui est appelée Sennim, et qui était près de Cédés.
(Now Heber the Kenite, which was of the children of Hobab the father in lawe of Moses, was departed from the Kenites, and pitched his tent vntill the playne of Zaanaim, which is by Kedesh)
12 Et l’on annonça à Sisara, que Barac, fils d’Abinoem, était monté sur la montagne de Thabor.
Then they shewed Sisera, that Barak the sonne of Abinoam was gone vp to mout Tabor.
13 Et il assembla ses neuf cents chars armés de faux, et toute son armée qui vint de Haroseth des nations au torrent de Cison.
And Sisera called for all his charets, euen nine hundreth charets of yron, and all the people that were with him from Harosheth of the Gentiles, vnto the riuer Kishon.
14 Alors Debbora dit à Barac: Lève-toi; car c’est le jour auquel le Seigneur a livré Sisara en tes mains: voilà que lui-même est ton guide. C’est pourquoi Barac descendit de la montagne de Thabor, et dix mille combattants avec lui.
Then Deborah sayd vnto Barak, Vp: for this is the day that the Lord hath deliuered Sisera into thine hand. Is not the Lord gone out before thee? So Barak went downe from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.
15 Et le Seigneur épouvanta Sisara, tous ses chars et toute sa multitude, par le tranchant du glaive, à l’aspect de Barac; de telle sorte que Sisara s’élançant de son char, s’enfuit à pied,
And the Lord destroyed Sisera and all his charets, and al his hoste with the edge of the sword before Barak, so that Sisera lighted downe off his charet, and fled away on his feete.
16 Que Barac poursuivit les chars qui s’enfuyaient et l’armée, jusqu’à Haroseth des nations, et que toute la multitude des ennemis périt jusqu’à une entière extermination.
But Barak pursued after the charets, and after the hoste vnto Harosheth of the Gentiles: and all the hoste of Sisera fel vpon the edge of the sworde: there was not a man left.
17 Mais Sisara fuyant parvint à la tente de Jahel, femme d’Haber le Cinéen. Car il y avait paix entre Jabin, roi d’Azor, et la maison d’Haber le Cinéen.
Howbeit Sisera fled away on his feete to the tent of Iael the wife of Heber the Kenite: (for peace was betweene Iabin the king of Hazor, and betweene the house of Heber the Kenite)
18 Jahel étant donc sorti au devant à la rencontre de Sisara, lui dit: Entre chez moi, mon seigneur; entre, et ne crains point. Sisara entré dans son tabernacle, et couvert par elle, de son manteau,
And Iael went out to meete Sisera, and sayd vnto him, Turne in, my lord, turne in to me: feare not. And when he had turned in vnto her into her tent, she couered him with a mantell.
19 Lui dit: Donnez-moi, je vous prie, un peu d’eau, parce que j’ai une grande soif. Jahel ouvrit l’outre du lait, lui donna à boire et le couvrit.
And he said vnto her, Giue me, I pray thee, a litle water to drinke: for I am thirstie. And shee opened a bottel of milke, and gaue him drinke, and couered him.
20 Alors Sisara lui dit: Tenez-vous devant la porte de votre tabernacle; et lorsque quelqu’un viendra, vous interrogeant, et disant: Est-ce qu’il n’y a point ici quelqu’un? Vous répondrez: Il n’y a personne.
Againe he sayde vnto her, Stande in the doore of the tent, and when any man doth come and enquire of thee, saying, Is any man there? thou shalt say, Nay.
21 C’est pourquoi, Jahel, femme d’Haber prit le clou du tabernacle, prenant également le marteau; et étant entrée secrètement et en silence, elle posa le clou sur la tempe de sa tête, et après l’avoir frappé avec le marteau, elle lui enfonça dans le cerveau jusqu’à terre: et Sisara joignant le sommeil à la mort défaillit et mourut.
Then Iael Hebers wife tooke a nayle of the tent, and tooke an hammer in her hande, and went softly vnto him, and smote the nayle into his temples, and fastened it into the grounde, (for he was fast a sleepe and weary) and so he dyed.
22 Et voilà que Barac, poursuivant Sisara, arrivait; et Jahel étant sortie à sa rencontre, lui dit: Viens, et je te montrerai l’homme que tu cherches. Lorsque celui-ci fut entré chez elle, il vit Sisara étendu mort, et le clou enfoncé dans sa tempe.
And behold, as Barak pursued after Sisera, Iael came out to meete him, and sayd vnto him, Come, and I wil shewe thee the man, whome thou seekest: and when he came into her tent, behold, Sisera lay dead, and the nayle in his temples.
23 Dieu humilia donc en ce jour-là Jabin, roi de Chanaan, devant les enfants d’Israël,
So God brought downe Iabin the King of Canaan that day before the children of Israel.
24 Qui croissaient tous les jours, et qui d’une main forte opprimaient Jabin, roi de Chanaan, jusqu’à ce qu’ils l’eurent entièrement détruit.
And the hande of the children of Israel prospered, and preuailed against Iabin the King of Canaan, vntill they had destroyed Iabin King of Canaan.
