Juges 2
1 Or, l’ange du Seigneur monta de Galgala au lieu des pleurants, et dit: Je vous ai retirés de l’Égypte, je vous ai introduits dans la terre pour laquelle j’ai fait serment à vos pères, et j’ai promis que je ne rendrais jamais vaine mon alliance avec vous;
And a messenger of the Lord came up from Gilgal to Bochim, And he said, I caused you to go up out of Egypt, and I brought you unto the land which I had sworn unto your fathers; and I said, I will not break my covenant with you for ever.
2 À condition seulement que vous ne feriez point d’alliance avec les habitants de cette terre; mais que vous renverseriez leurs autels; et vous n’avez pas voulu entendre ma voix; pourquoi avez-vous fait cela?
But ye for your part shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; their altars shall ye throw down; but ye have not obeyed my voice: what is this ye have done?
3 C’est pourquoi je n’ai pas voulu les exterminer de votre face, afin que vous les ayez pour ennemis, et que leurs dieux vous soient en ruine.
And I also have said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be evil neighbors to you, and their gods shall become a snare unto you.
4 Lorsque l’ange du Seigneur disait ces paroles à tous les enfants d’Israël, ceux-ci élevèrent leur voix et pleurèrent,
And it came to pass, when the messenger of the Lord spoke these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept.
5 Et on appela ce lieu du nom de Lieu de pleurants, ou de larmes; et ils immolèrent là des victimes au Seigneur.
And they called the name of that place, Bochim; and they sacrificed there unto the Lord.
6 Josué renvoya donc le peuple, et les enfants d’Israël s’en allèrent, chacun en sa possession, pour l’occuper.
And when Joshua had let the people go, the children of Israel went every man unto his inheritance to take possession of the land.
7 Et ils servirent le Seigneur durant tous les jours de Josué et les anciens qui vécurent longtemps après lui, et qui avaient connu toutes les œuvres du Seigneur, qu’il avait faites en faveur d’Israël.
And the people served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that lived many days after Joshua, who had seen all the great deeds of the Lord, which he had done for Israel.
8 Or, Josué, fils de Nun, serviteur du Seigneur, mourut âgé de cent dix ans;
Then died Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, being one hundred and ten years old.
9 Et on l’ensevelit dans les bornes de sa possession à Thamnathsaré, sur la montagne d’Ephraïm, vers la partie septentrionale du mont Gaas.
And they buried him on the border of his inheritance in Timnath-cheres, in the mountain of Ephraim, on the north side of mount Ga'ash.
10 Et toute cette génération fut réunie à ses pères; et d’autres hommes s’élevèrent qui ne connaissaient point le Seigneur, ni les œuvres qu’il avait faites en faveur d’Israël.
And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers; and there arose another generation after them, who knew not the Lord, and likewise not the deeds which he had done for Israel.
11 Et les enfants d’Israël firent le mal en la présence du Seigneur, et ils servirent les Baalim.
And the children of Israel did the evil in the eyes of the Lord, and served the Be'alim:
12 Et ils abandonnèrent le Seigneur Dieu de leurs pères, qui les avait retirés de la terre d’Égypte, et ils servirent des dieux étrangers, et les dieux des peuples qui habitaient autour d’eux, et ils les adorèrent, et excitèrent le Seigneur à la colère,
And they forsook the Lord the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt, and they went after other gods, of the gods of the nations that were round about them, and they bowed themselves unto them, and incensed the Lord.
13 L’abandonnant et servant Baal et Astaroth.
And they forsook the Lord, and served Baal and 'Ashtaroth.
14 Et le Seigneur irrité contre les Israélites, les livra aux mains de pillards, qui les prirent et les vendirent aux ennemis qui habitaient tout autour; ainsi ils ne purent résister à leurs adversaires;
And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of spoilers who spoiled them, and he sold them into the hand of their enemies round about, and they were not able any longer to stand before their enemies.
15 Mais partout où ils auraient voulu aller, la main du Seigneur était sur eux, comme il a dit et leur a juré: et ils furent violemment affligés.
Whithersoever they went out, the hand of the Lord was against them for evil, as the Lord had spoken, and as the Lord had sworn unto them: and they were greatly distressed.
16 Et le Seigneur suscita des juges pour les délivrer des mains des dévastateurs; mais ils ne voulurent pas les écouter,
And the Lord raised up judges, and they delivered them out of the hand of those that spoiled them.
17 Forniquant avec des dieux étrangers, et les adorant. Bientôt ils abandonnèrent la voie par laquelle avaient marché leurs pères; et entendant les commandements du Seigneur, ils firent tout le contraire.
But also unto their judges they did not hearken; but they went astray after other gods, and bowed themselves unto them: they turned quickly out of the way which their fathers had walked in, to obey the commandments of the Lord; they did not so.
18 Et lorsque le Seigneur suscitait des juges, sa miséricorde fléchissait durant les jours de ces juges; il écoutait les gémissements des affligés, et il les délivrait du carnage des dévastateurs.
And when the Lord raised them up judges, then was the Lord with the judge, and he delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for the Lord bethought himself because of their groaning by reason of those that oppressed them and ill-treated them.
19 Mais après que le juge était mort, ils retombaient, et faisaient des choses bien pires que n’en avaient fait leurs pères, suivant des dieux étrangers, les servant et les adorant. Ils n’abandonnèrent point leurs inventions, ni la voie très rude par laquelle ils avaient accoutumé de marcher.
And it came to pass, when the judge died, that they returned, and became more corrupt than their fathers, in going after other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them: they omitted nothing from their doings, and from their stubborn way.
20 Aussi, la fureur du Seigneur fut irritée contre Israël, et il dit: Parce que cette nation a rendu vaine mon alliance, que j’avais faite avec ses pères, et qu’elle a dédaigné d’entendre ma voix,
And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel; and he said, For the cause that this people have transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice:
21 Eh bien, moi je ne détruirai point les nations que. Josué a laissées, lorsqu’il est mort,
So will I also for my part not drive out henceforth any man from before them out of the nations which Joshua left when he died;
22 Afin que par elles j’éprouve Israël, en voyant s’ils gardent la voie du Seigneur, comme l’ont gardée leurs pères, et s’ils y marchent, ou non.
In order to prove through them the Israelites, whether they will keep the way of the Lord, to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.
23 Le Seigneur laissa donc toutes ces nations, et ne voulut point les détruire aussitôt, c’est pourquoi il ne les livra pas aux mains de Josué.
And thus did the Lord leave these nations, so as not to drive them out speedily; and he delivered them not into the hand of Joshua.
