Juges 17
1 Il y eut en ce temps-là un certain homme de la montagne d’Ephraïm, du nom de Michas,
In that time, there was a certain man, from mount Ephraim, named Micah.
2 Qui dit à sa mère: Les mille et cent sicles d’argent, que vous aviez mis à part, et au sujet desquels, vous aviez juré, moi l’entendant, voici que je les ai, et qu’ils sont avec moi. Sa mère lui répondit: Béni soit mon fils par le Seigneur!
And he said to his mother, “The one thousand one hundred silver coins, which you had separated for yourself, and about which you had sworn in my hearing, behold, I have them, and they are with me.” And she answered him, “My son has been blessed by the Lord.”
3 Michas les rendit donc à sa mère, qui lui avait dit: J’ai consacré et voué cet argent au Seigneur, afin que mon fils le reçoive de ma main, et qu’il fasse une image taillée au ciseau et une idole de fonte; et maintenant je te le remets.
Therefore, he restored them to his mother. And she said to him: “I have consecrated and vowed this silver to the Lord, so that my son would receive it from my hand, and would make a molten idol and a graven image. And now I deliver it to you.”
4 Il les rendit donc à sa mère, qui prit deux cents sicles d’argent et les donna à un orfèvre, afin qu’il en fit une image taillée au ciseau et une idole de fonte, qui demeura dans la maison de Michas.
And when he restored these to his mother, she took two hundred of the silver coins, and she gave them to the silversmith, so that he might make from them a molten idol and a graven image. And it was in the house of Micah.
5 Michas aussi éleva séparément dans sa maison un petit temple au dieu, et fit un éphod, des théraphim, c’est-à-dire un vêtement sacerdotal, et des idoles; puis il remplit la main d’un de ses fils; et celui-ci devint son prêtre.
And he also separated in it a little shrine for the god. And he made an ephod and theraphim, that is, a priestly garment and idols. And he filled the hand of one of his sons, and he became his priest.
6 En ces jours-là il n’y avait point de roi en Israël, mais chacun faisait tout ce qui lui semblait juste.
In those days, there was no king in Israel. Instead, each one did what seemed right to himself.
7 Il y eut aussi un autre jeune homme de Bethléhem de Juda, par sa parenté; et lui était Lévite, et il habitait là.
Also, there was another young man, from Bethlehem of Judah, one of his relatives. And he himself was a Levite, and he was living there.
8 Sorti de la ville de Bethléhem, il voulut voyager partout où il trouverait pour lui un avantage. Et lorsqu’il fut venu à la montagne d’Ephraïm, chemin faisant, et qu’il se fut un peu détourné jusqu’à la maison de Michas,
Then, departing from the city of Bethlehem, he wished to sojourn wherever he would find it beneficial to himself. And when he had arrived at mount Ephraim, while making the journey, he also turned aside for a little while to the house of Micah.
9 Michas lui demanda d’où il venait. Il répondit: Je suis Lévite de Bethléhem de Juda, et je vais pour habiter où je pourrai, et où je verrai qu’il me sera utile.
And he was asked by him where he came from. And he responded: “I am a Levite from Bethlehem of Judah. And I am traveling so that I may live where I am able, if I perceive it to be useful to me.”
10 Et Michas dit: Demeure chez moi, et sers-moi de père et de prêtre; je te donnerai chaque année dix sicles d’argent, un double vêtement et ce qui est nécessaire pour la vie.
And Micah said: “Stay with me. And you shall be to me like a parent and a priest. And I will give to you, each year, ten silver coins, and a double-layered garment, and whatever provisions are necessary.”
11 Il consentit, et il demeura chez lui, et il fut pour lui comme un de ses enfants.
He agreed, and he stayed with the man. And he was to him like one of his sons.
12 Et Michas remplit sa main, et il garda ce jeune homme comme prêtre chez lui,
And Micah filled his hand, and he had the young man with him as his priest,
13 Disant: Je sais que Dieu me fera du bien, puisque j’ai un prêtre de la race Lévitique.
saying: “Now I know that God will be good to me, since I have a priest from the stock of the Levites.”
