Josué 2
1 Josué, fils de Nun, envoya donc de Sétim deux hommes comme espions secrets, et il leur dit: Allez et considérez la terre et la ville de Jéricho. Et ceux-ci s’étant mis en chemin, entrèrent dans la maison d’une femme de mauvaise vie, du nom de Rahab, et se reposèrent chez elle.
Therfor Josue, the sone of Nun, sente fro Sethym twei men, aspieris in hiddlis, and seide to hem, Go ye, and biholde ye the lond, and the citee of Jerico. Whiche yeden, and entriden into the hous of a womman hoore, `Raab bi name, and restiden at hir.
2 Or, on l’annonça au roi de Jéricho, et on lui dit: Voilà que des hommes d’entre les enfants d’Israël sont entrés ici pendant la nuit pour explorer la terre.
And it was teld, `and seid to the kyng of Jerico, Lo! men of the sones of Israel entriden hidir bi nyyt, to aspie the lond.
3 Et le roi de Jéricho envoya chez Rahab, disant: Fais sortir les hommes qui sont venus chez toi, et qui sont entrés dans ta maison; car ce sont des espions, et ils sont venus considérer toute cette terre.
Therfor the kyng of Jerico sente to Raab the hoore, and seide, Brynge out the men, that camen to thee, and entriden in to thin hous; for thei ben aspieris, and thei camen to biholde al the lond.
4 Mais Rahab, prenant ces hommes, les cacha, et dit: Je l’avoue, ils sont venus chez moi, mais je ne savais pas d’où ils étaient:
And the womman took the men, and hidde hem, and seide, Y knowleche, thei camen to me, but Y wiste not of whenus thei weren;
5 Et comme on fermait la porte de la ville pendant la nuit, ils sont sortis en même temps; je ne sais où ils sont allés: poursuivez-les promptement et vous les atteindrez.
and whanne the yate was closid in derknessis, and thei yeden out to gidire, Y noot whidur thei yeden; pursue ye soone, and ye schulen take hem.
6 Mais elle, elle fit monter ces hommes sur la terrasse de sa maison, et elle les couvrit avec de la paille de Un, qui était là.
Forsothe sche made the men to stie in to the soler of hir hows, and hilide hem with stobil of flex, that was there.
7 Or, ceux qui avaient été envoyés les poursuivirent par la voie qui mène au gué du Jourdain; et, eux sortis, aussitôt la porte fut fermée.
Sotheli thei, that weren sent, sueden hem bi the weie that ledith to the fordis of Jordan; and whanne thei weren goon out, anoon the yate was closid.
8 Ceux qui étaient cachés ne dormaient pas encore, et voilà que Rahab monta vers eux, et dit:
Thei that weren hid, slepten not yit, and lo! the womman stiede to hem, and seide,
9 Je sais que le Seigneur vous a livré cette terre; car la terreur de votre nom nous a saisis, et tous les habitants de cette terre sont dans l’abattement.
Y knowe that the Lord hath bitake to you this lond; for youre feerdfulnesse felde in to vs, and alle the dwelleris of the lond `weren sike.
10 Nous avons appris que le Seigneur a desséché les eaux de la mer rouge, à votre entrée, quand vous êtes sortis de l’Egypte, et ce que vous avez fait aux deux rois des Amorrhéens, qui étaient au-delà du Jourdain, Séhon et Og, que vous avez tués.
We herden, that the Lord driede the watris of the Reed See at youre entryng, whanne ye yeden out of Egipt; and what thingis ye diden to twei kyngis of Ammorreis, that weren biyende Jordan, to Seon and Og, whiche ye killiden;
11 Et apprenant cela, nous avons craint fortement; notre cœur a défailli, et le courage nous a abandonnés à votre entrée; car le Seigneur votre Dieu est Dieu aussi dans le ciel en haut, et sur la terre en bas.
and we herden these thingis, and we dredden, and oure herte `was sike, and spirit dwellide not in vs at youre entryng; for youre Lord God hym silf is God in heuene aboue, and in erthe bynethe.
12 Maintenant donc, jurez-moi par le Seigneur, que, comme je vous ai fait miséricorde, ainsi vous ferez à la maison de mon père, et que vous me donnerez un signe certain,
Now therfor swere ye to me bi the Lord God, that as Y dide merci with you, so and ye do with the hows of my fadir; and yyue ye to me a veri signe,
13 Que vous sauverez mon père et ma mère, mes frères et mes sœurs et tout ce qui est à eux, et que vous arracherez ainsi nos âmes à la mort.
that ye saue my fadir and modir, and my britheren and sistris, and alle thingis that ben herne, and dilyuere oure lyues fro deeth.
14 Et ils lui répondirent: Que notre âme soit pour vous jusqu’à la mort, si toutefois tu ne nous trahis point; et lorsque le Seigneur nous aura livré cette terre, nous accomplirons envers toi la miséricorde et la fidélité.
Whiche answeriden to hir, Oure lijf be for you in to deeth, if netheles thou bitraiest not vs; and whanne the Lord hath bitake to vs the lond, we schulen do mercy and treuthe in thee.
15 Elle les fit donc descendre avec une corde par la fenêtre; car sa maison tenait au mur de la ville,
Therfor sche let hem doun fro the wyndow bi a corde; for hir hows cleuyde to the wal.
16 Et elle leur dit: Allez vers les montagnes, de peur qu’en revenant, ils ne vous rencontrent; et cachez-vous là trois jours, jusqu’à ce qu’ils reviennent; et alors vous irez par votre chemin.
And sche seide to hem, Stie ye to the hilli places, lest perauenture men turnynge ayen meete you; and be ye hidde there three daies, til thei comen ayen; and so ye schulen go bi youre weie.
17 Ils lui répondirent: Nous ne manquerons pas à ce serment par lequel tu nous a adjurés,
Whiche seiden to hir, We schulen be giltles of this ooth, bi which thou hast chargid vs,
18 Si, nous entrant dans cette terre, ce cordon d’écarlate sert de signe, et si tu le lies à la fenêtre par laquelle tu nous a fait descendre, et que tu assembles dans ta maison ton père et ta mère, tes frères et toute ta parenté,
if, whanne we entren in to the lond, this reed corde is not a signe, and thou byndist it not in the wyndow, bi which thou lettist vs doun; and thou gaderist not in to thi hows thi fadir and modir, and britheren, and al thi kynrede; the blood of hym schal be on his heed,
19 Celui qui sortira de la porte de ta maison, son sang sera sur sa tête, et nous, nous y serons étrangers; mais le sang de tous ceux qui seront avec toi dans ta maison retombera sur nous, si quelqu’un les touche.
that goith out at the dore of thin hows, and we schulen be alien, that is, giltles; forsothe the blood of alle men that ben in the hows with thee, schal turne in to oure heed, if ony man touchith hem.
20 Que si tu veux nous trahir, et publier ces paroles, nous serons libres de ce serment par lequel tu nous as adjurés.
`That if thou wolt betraie vs, and brynge forth in to the myddis this word, we schulen be cleene of this ooth, bi which thou hast chargid vs.
21 Et elle leur répondit: Qu’il soit fait ainsi que vous avez dit. Et les laissant aller, elle suspendit le cordon d’écarlate à la fenêtre.
And sche answeride, As ye han spoke, so be it doon. And sche lefte hem, that thei schulden go, and sche hangide a reed corde in her wyndow.
22 Et eux, cheminant, parvinrent aux montagnes, et demeurèrent là trois jours, jusqu’à ce que revinrent ceux qui les avaient poursuivis; car les cherchant dans tout le chemin, ils ne les trouvèrent pas.
Sotheli thei yeden, and camen to the hilli places, and dwelliden there three daies, til thei turneden ayen that pursueden; for thei souyten bi ech weie, and founden not hem.
23 Et ceux-ci étant déjà entrés dans la ville, les espions s’en retournèrent, et descendirent de la montagne; puis, le Jourdain passé, ils vinrent vers Josué, fils de Nun, et lui racontèrent tout ce qui leur était arrivé,
And whanne the sekeris entriden in to the citee, the spieris turneden ayen, and camen doun fro the hille; and whanne thei hadde passid Jordan, thei camen to Josue, the sone of Nun;
24 Et ils dirent: Le Seigneur a livré toute cette terre en nos mains et tous ses habitants sont consternés par la frayeur.
and thei telden to hym alle thingis that bifelden to hem, and seiden, The Lord hath bitake al the lond in to oure hondis, and alle the dwelleris thereof ben casten doun bi drede.
