Josué 16
1 Et le lot échu aux enfants de Joseph fut depuis le Jourdain, contre Jéricho, et les eaux de ce fleuve, à l’orient, le désert qui monte de Jéricho à la montagne de Béthel,
The land that was allotted to [the two tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh that were descended from] Joseph started at the Jordan [River], east of the springs at Jericho.
2 Et s’avance de Béthel à Luza, passe par la frontière d’Archi à Ataroth,
It extended west from Jericho to the hilly area near Bethel, which is also called Luz. It extended as far as Ataroth, at the border of the land where the Arki people-group lived.
3 Et descend à l’occident près de la frontière de Jéphlet, jusqu’aux frontières de Béth-horon la basse, et jusqu’à Gaser; et ses contrées finissent à la grande mer.
From there it extended west to the border of the land where the Japhleti people-group lived, and then it extended west to the area near Lower Beth-Horon. From there it extended west to Gezer [city] and from there to the [Mediterranean] Sea.
4 Or, c’est là ce qu’ont possédé les enfants de Joseph, Manassé et Ephraïm.
That is the land that the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh were allotted.
5 Et la frontière des enfants d’Ephraïm, selon leur parenté, devint ainsi que leur possession, contre l’orient, Ataroth Addar, jusqu’à Beth-horon la haute;
The border of the land that was allotted to the clans of the tribe of Ephraim started at Ataroth-Addar [city] in the east. It extended to Upper Beth-Horon
6 Et ses confins s’avancent jusqu’à la mer; mais Machméthath regarde l’aquilon, fait le tour des frontières, contre l’orient, à Thanathsélo, et passe de l’orient à Janoë.
and from there to the [Mediterranean] Sea.
7 La frontière descend encore de Janoë à Atharoth et à Naaratha; puis elle parvient à Jéricho, et s’avance jusqu’au Jourdain;
From Michmethath [on the north] it extended east to Taanath and from there on to Janoah. From there it extended [south] to Ataroth [city] and to Naarah [town]. From there it extended to Jericho and from there to the Jordan [River].
8 De Taphua elle passe contre la mer jusqu’à la Vallée des roseaux et se termine à la mer très salée; telle est la possession de la tribu des enfants d’Ephraïm, selon leurs familles.
The [northern] border extended from Tappuah west to Kanah Ravine, and ended at the [Mediterranean] Sea. That was the land that was allotted to the tribe of Ephraim.
9 Mais les villes qui étaient au milieu de la possession des enfants de Manassé, furent distraites pour les enfants d’Ephraïm, ainsi que leurs villages.
Many of those towns were really within the area allotted to the tribe of Manasseh.
10 Et les enfants d’Ephraïm ne tuèrent point le Chananéen, qui habitait dans Gazer; mais le Chananéen a habité au milieu d’Ephraïm jusqu’à ce jour, comme tributaire.
The people of the tribe of Ephraim could not force the Canaan people-group to leave Gezer, so the Canaan people-group still live among the people of the tribe of Ephraim, but the Israelis forced the people of the Canaan people-group to become their slaves.
