Josué 11

1 Lorsque Jabin, roi d’Asor, eut appris ces choses, il envoya vers Jobab, roi de Madon, vers le roi de Séméron, vers le roi d’Achsaph,

And it came to pass, when Jabin king of Hazor heard of it, that he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph,

2 Et aussi vers les rois de l’aquilon, qui habitaient dans les montagnes et dans la plaine, contre le midi de Cénéroth, dans les campagnes mêmes et dans les contrées de Dor, près de la mer;

and to the kings who were on the north, in the hill-country, and in the Arabah south of Chinneroth, and in the lowland, and in the heights of Dor on the west,

3 De plus, vers le Chananéen à l’orient et à l’occident, vers l’Amorrhéen, l’Héthéen, le Phérézéen, le Jébuséen dans les montagnes; vers l’Hévéen aussi qui habitait au pied de l’Hermon, dans la terre de Maspha.

to the Canaanite on the east and on the west, and the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the hill-country, and the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpah,

4 Ils sortirent tous avec leurs troupes, peuple très nombreux, comme le sable qui est sur le rivage de la mer, et avec une grande multitude de chevaux et de chars.

and they went out, they and all their armies with them, much people, even as the sand that is upon the sea-shore in multitude, with horses and chariots, very many.

5 Et tous ces rois vinrent ensemble auprès des eaux de Mérom, pour combattre contre Israël.

And all these kings met together. And they came and encamped together at the waters of Merom, to fight with Israel.

6 Alors le Seigneur dit à Josué: Ne les crains point; car demain, à cette même heure, moi-même je les livrerai tous pour être battus en présence d’Israël: tu couperas les nerfs des jambes de leurs chevaux, et tu brûleras leurs chars au feu.

And Jehovah said to Joshua, Be not afraid because of them, for tomorrow at this time I will deliver them up all slain before Israel. Thou shall hock their horses, and burn their chariots with fire.

7 Et Josué vint soudainement et toute son armé avec lui, contre eux auprès des eaux de Mérom, et ils fondirent sur eux,

So Joshua came, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly, and fell upon them.

8 Et le Seigneur les livra aux mains d’Israël. Ils les battirent et les poursuivirent jusqu’à la grande Sidon, jusqu’aux eaux de Maséréphoth et jusqu’à la campagne de Masphé, laquelle est à sa partie orientale. Il les battit tous de telle sorte qu’il n’en laissa aucun reste;

And Jehovah delivered them into the hand of Israel, and they smote them, and chased them to great Sidon, and to Misrephoth-maim, and to the valley of Mizpeh eastward. And they smote them until they left them none remaining.

9 Et il fit comme lui avait ordonné le Seigneur, il coupa les nerfs des jambes de leurs chevaux, et brûla les chars au feu.

And Joshua did to them as Jehovah bade him. He hocked their horses, and burnt their chariots with fire.

10 Et étant retourné aussitôt il prit Asor, et frappa de son glaive le roi de cette ville; car Asor anciennement tenait le premier rang entre tous ces royaumes.

And Joshua turned back at that time, and took Hazor, and smote the king of it with the sword, for Hazor was formerly the head of all those kingdoms.

11 Il frappa toutes les âmes qui s’y trouvaient, et il n’y laissa aucun reste; mais il ravagea tout jusqu’à une dernière extermination; et la ville elle-même, il la détruisit par un incendie.

And they smote all the souls who were in it with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them. There was none left that breathed, and he burnt Hazor with fire.

12 Quant à toutes les cités d’alentour et à leurs rois, il les prit, les battit et les détruisit, comme lui avait ordonné Moïse, serviteur du Seigneur.

And all the cities of those kings, and all the kings of them, Joshua took, and he smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed them, as Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded.

13 Israël mit le feu à toutes les autres villes, excepté à celles qui étaient situées sur les collines et sur les hauteurs; il ne consuma entièrement par les flammes que la seule Asor, qui était très fortifiée.

But as for the cities that stood on their mounds, Israel burned none of them, except only Hazor. Joshua burned that.

14 Mais tout le butin de ces villes et les bestiaux, les enfants d’Israël se les partagèrent, tous les hommes ayant été tués.

And all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, the sons of Israel took for a prey to themselves, but every man they smote with the edge of the sword until they had destroyed them, neither did they leave any who breathed.

15 Comme le Seigneur avait ordonné à Moïse, son serviteur, ainsi ordonna Moïse à Josué, et celui-ci accomplit tout; il n’omit aucun des commandements, ni même une seule parole de ce que le Seigneur avait commandé à Moïse.

As Jehovah commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua, and so Joshua did. He left nothing undone of all that Jehovah commanded Moses.

16 C’est pourquoi Josué prit toute la terre montagneuse et méridionale, la terre de Gosen, la plaine, la région occidentale, la montagne d’Israël et ses campagnes.

So Joshua took all that land, the hill-country, and all the South, and all the land of Goshen, and the lowland, and the Arabah, and the hill-country of Israel, and the lowland of the same,

17 Et la partie de la montagne qui monte vers Séir jusqu’à Baalgad par la plaine du Liban, au-dessous de la montagne d’Hermon: il prit tous leurs rois, les battit et les tua.

from mount Halak, that goes up to Seir, even to Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon under mount Hermon. And he took all their kings, and smote them, and put them to death.

18 Pendant longtemps Josué combattit contre ses rois.

Joshua made war a long time with all those kings.

19 Il n’y eut pas de ville qui se rendît aux enfants d’Israël, excepté l’Hévéen qui habitait à Gabaon; car il les prit toutes en combattant.

There was not a city that made peace with the sons of Israel, except the Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon. They took all in battle.

20 L’arrêt du Seigneur, en effet, avait été que leurs cœurs seraient endurcis, qu’ils combattraient contre Israël et qu’ils succomberaient, qu’ils ne mériteraient aucune clémence, et qu’ils périraient, comme avait ordonné le Seigneur à Moïse.

For it was of Jehovah to harden their hearts, to come against Israel in battle, that he might utterly destroy them, that they might have no favor, but that he might destroy them as Jehovah commanded Moses.

21 En ce temps-là Josué vint, et il tua les Enacim des montagnes d’Hébron, de Dabir, d’Anab, et de toute la montagne de Juda et d’Israël, et il détruisit leurs villes.

And Joshua came at that time, and cut off the Anakim from the hill-country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill-country of Judah, and from all the hill-country of Israel. Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities.

22 Il ne laissa aucun de la race des Enacim, dans la terre des enfants d’Israël, excepté dans les villes de Gaza, de Geth et d’Azot, dans lesquelles seules il en fut laissé.

There was none of the Anakim left in the land of the sons of Israel. Only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod some remained.

23 Josué donc prit tout le pays, comme avait dit le Seigneur à Moïse, et il le livra en possession aux enfants d’Israël, selon leurs parts et leurs tribus; et le pays se reposa des combats.

So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that Jehovah spoke to Moses. And Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land had rest from war.
