1 Mais Jésus s’en alla à la montagne des Oliviers;
But Jesus went to the mount of Olives;
2 Et dès le point du jour il revint dans le temple, et tout le peuple vint à lui; et, s’étant assis, il les enseignait.
and returned early in the morning into the temple, and all the people came to Him: and He sat down, and taught them.
3 Cependant les scribes et les pharisiens lui amenèrent une femme surprise en adultère, et la placèrent au milieu,
And the scribes and pharisees brought to Him a woman taken in adultery;
4 Puis ils dirent à Jésus: Maître, cette femme vient d’être surprise en adultère.
and setting her in the midst, they said to Him, "This woman was caught in the very act, committing adultery.
5 Or Moïse, dans la loi, nous a ordonné de lapider de telles femmes. Toi donc, que dis-tu?
Now Moses in the law has commanded us that such women should be stoned, but what sayest Thou?"
6 Or ils disaient cela, le tentant, afin de pouvoir l’accuser. Mais Jésus, se baissant, écrivait du doigt sur la terre.
This they said to tempt Him, that they might have something to accuse Him of. But Jesus stooping down, wrote with his finger upon the ground.
7 Et comme ils continuaient à l’interroger, il se releva et leur dit: Que celui de vous qui est sans péché jette le premier une pierre contre elle.
And as they continued asking Him, He raised himself up and said unto them, "Let him that is without sin among you, first cast a stone at her."
8 Et se baissant de nouveau, il écrivait sur la terre.
Then He stooped down again and wrote on the ground.
9 Mais, entendant cela, ils sortaient l’un après l’autre, à commencer par les vieillards. Et Jésus demeura seul avec la femme, qui était au milieu.
But when they heard his answer, being convicted by their own conscience, they went out one by one, beginning at the elder, even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst of the people.
10 Alors Jésus, se relevant, lui dit: Femme, où sont ceux qui vous accusaient? Personne ne vous a condamnée?
Then Jesus rising up, and seeing none but the woman, said unto her, Where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
11 Elle répondit: Personne, Seigneur. Et Jésus lui dit: Ni moi, je ne vous condamnerai pas: allez, et ne péchez plus.
And she said, None, Lord. Then said Jesus unto her, Neither do I condemn thee, Go thy way and sin no more.
12 Jésus leur parla de nouveau, disant: C’est moi qui suis la lumière du monde: qui me suit ne marche pas dans les ténèbres, mais il aura la lumière de la vie.
Then spake Jesus again to them, saying, I am the light of the world; he, that followeth me, shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
13 Alors les pharisiens lui dirent: C’est toi qui rends témoignage de toi-même; ton témoignage n’est pas vrai.
The pharisees therefore said to Him, Thou bearest witness of thyself; thy testimony is not true.
14 Jésus répondit, et leur dit: Bien que je rende témoignage de moi-même, mon témoignage est vrai; parce que je sais d’où je viens et où je vais, mais vous, vous ne savez ni d’où je viens ni où je vais.
Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear witness of myself, my testimony is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I am going; but ye know not whence I come, nor whither I go.
15 Vous, vous jugez selon la chair; moi je ne juge personne;
Ye judge according to the flesh, but I judge no man as yet:
16 Et si je juge, mon jugement est vrai, parce que je ne suis pas seul; mais moi et mon Père qui m’a envoyé.
though if I should judge, my judgement is true; for I am not alone, but I am with the Father that sent me.
17 Or dans votre loi il est écrit que le témoignage de deux hommes est vrai.
And it is written in your own law, that the testimony of two persons is valid.
18 C’est moi qui rends témoignage de moi-même; mais il rend aussi témoignage de moi, mon Père qui m’a envoyé.
Now I am one, who bear witness of myself; and the Father, who sent me, beareth witness of me.
19 Ils lui disaient donc: Où est ton Père? Jésus répondit: Vous ne connaissez ni moi, ni mon Père: si vous me connaissiez, vous connaîtriez sans doute aussi mon Père.
Then said they unto Him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye would have known my Father also.
20 Jésus dit ces paroles, enseignant dans le temple, au lieu où est le trésor: et personne ne se saisit de lui, parce que son heure n’était pas encore venue.
These words spake Jesus in the treasury, when He was teaching in the temple: and no one laid hands on Him, for his hour was not yet come.
21 Jésus leur dit encore: Je m’en vais et vous me chercherez, et vous mourrez dans votre péché. Mais où je vais vous ne pouvez venir.
Jesus therefore said unto them again, "I am going away, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sin: where I go ye cannot come."
22 Les Juifs disaient donc: Se tuera-t-il lui-même, puisqu’il dit: Où je vais vous ne pouvez venir?
The Jews therefore said, What! will He kill himself; that He says, where I am going, ye cannot come?
23 Il leur disait aussi: Vous, vous êtes d’en bas, moi je suis d’en haut. Vous êtes de ce monde, moi je ne suis pas de ce monde.
And He said unto them, Ye are from beneath, I am from above: ye are of this world, I am not of this world.
24 Je vous ai donc dit que vous mourriez dans vos péchés; car si vous ne me croyez pas ce que je suis, vous mourrez dans votre péché.
Therefore I said unto you, that ye shall die in your sins; for if ye believe not that I am the Messiah, ye shall die in your sins.
25 Ils lui dirent donc: Qui es tu? Jésus leur dit: Le principe, moi-même qui vous parle.
Then said they to Him, Who art thou? And Jesus answered them, Even the same that I told you at first.
26 J’ai beaucoup de choses à dire de vous, et à condamner en vous; mais celui qui m’a envoyé est vrai, et moi, ce que j’ai entendu de lui, je le dis au monde.
I have many things to say and to judge concerning you: but I only say, He that sent me is true, and I declare to the world those things, which I have heard from Him.
27 Et ils ne comprirent pas qu’il disait que Dieu était son Père.
But they did not know that He spake unto them of the Father.
28 Jésus leur dit donc: Quand vous aurez élevé le Fils de l’homme, c’est alors que vous connaîtrez ce que je suis, et que je ne fais rien de moi-même, mais que je parle comme mon Père m’a enseigné;
Jesus therefore said unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then ye shall know that I am He, and that I do nothing of myself, but as my Father hath instructed me, I speak these things.
29 Et celui qui m’a envoyé est avec moi, et il ne m’a pas laissé seul, parce que pour moi je fais toujours ce qui lui plaît.
And He that sent me, is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I always do the things that are pleasing to Him.
30 Comme il disait ces choses, beaucoup crurent en lui.
As He spake these words many believed on Him.
31 Jésus disait donc à ceux des Juifs qui croyaient en lui: Pour vous, si vous demeurez dans ma parole, vous serez vraiment mes disciples;
Therefore said Jesus to the Jews that believed on Him, If ye continue in my word, ye are indeed my disciples.
32 Et vous connaîtrez la vérité, et la vérité vous rendra libres.
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
33 Ils lui répondirent: Nous sommes la race d’Abraham, et nous n’avons jamais été esclaves de personne; comment dis-tu, toi: Vous serez libres?
They answered Him, We are the seed of Abraham, and never were slaves to any one, how then dost thou say, Ye shall be made free?
34 Jésus leur repartit: En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, quiconque commet le péché est esclave du péché;
Jesus answered them, Verily, verily I say unto you, whosoever maketh a practice of sin, is the servant of sin.
35 Or l’esclave ne demeure point toujours dans la maison; mais le fils y demeure toujours; (aiōn g165)
Now the servant does not continue always in the family: but the Son abideth always. (aiōn g165)
36 Si donc le fils vous met en liberté, vous serez vraiment libres.
If therefore the Son make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
37 Je sais que vous êtes fils d’Abraham; mais vous cherchez à me faire mourir, parce que ma parole ne prend pas en vous.
I know that ye are the seed of Abraham, but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.
38 Pour moi, ce que j’ai vu en mon Père, je le dis; et vous, ce que vous avez vu en votre père, vous le faites.
I speak that which I have seen with my Father, and ye do what ye have seen with your father.
39 Ils répliquèrent et lui dirent: Notre père est Abraham. Jésus leur dit: Si vous êtes fils d’Abraham, faites les œuvres d’Abraham.
They answered Him, Abraham is our father, Jesus replied, If ye were the children of Abraham, ye would do the works of Abraham:
40 Mais loin de là, vous cherchez à me faire mourir, moi homme qui vous ai dit la vérité que j’ai entendue de Dieu; c’est ce qu’Abraham n’a pas fait.
but now ye seek to kill me, who have told you the truth which I have heard from God: Abraham did not thus.
41 Vous faites les œuvres de votre père. Ils lui répliquèrent donc: Nous ne sommes pas nés de la fornication; nous n’avons qu’un père. Dieu.
But ye do the works of your father. Then said they unto Him, We are not born of fornication, we have one Father, even God.
42 Mais Jésus leur repartit: Si Dieu était votre père, certes vous m’aimeriez; car c’est de Dieu que je suis sorti et que je suis venu; ainsi je ne suis point venu de moi-même, mais c’est lui qui m’a envoyé.
Jesus said unto them, If God were your father, ye would love me: for I came forth, and do come, from God; neither came I of myself, but He sent me.
43 Pourquoi ne connaissez-vous point mon langage? parce que vous ne pouvez pas écouter ma parole.
And why do ye not understand my language, but because ye cannot bear my doctrine?
44 Vous avez le diable pour père, et vous voulez accomplir les désirs de votre père. Il a été homicide dès le commencement, et il n’est pas demeuré dans la vérité, parce qu’il n’y a pas de vérité en lui; lorsqu’il parle mensonge, il parle de son propre fonds, parce qu’il est menteur et le Père du mensonge.
Ye are of your father the devil, and are bent upon doing the lusts of your father: he was a murderer from the beginning, and continued not in the truth: for there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh like himself, for he is a liar, and the father of such.
45 Pour moi, si je dis la vérité, vous ne me croyez point.
And because I say the truth, ye believe me not. Which of you convicteth me of sin?
46 Qui de vous me convaincra de péché? Si je vous dis la vérité, pourquoi ne me croyez-vous point?
And if I speak truth, why do ye not believe me?
47 Celui qui est de Dieu écoute les paroles de Dieu. Et si vous ne les écoutez point, c’est parce que vous n’êtes point de Dieu.
He, that is of God, receiveth the words of God; but ye therefore receive them not, because ye are not of God.
48 Mais les Juifs répondirent et lui dirent: Ne disons-nous pas avec raison que tu es un Samaritain, et qu’un démon est en toi?
The Jews therefore answered and said unto Him. Do we not rightly say, that thou art a Samaritan, and art possessed by a demon?
49 Jésus repartit: Il n’y a pas de démon en moi; mais j’honore mon Père, et vous, vous me déshonorez.
Jesus answered I am not possessed by a demon, but I honour my Father, though ye dishonour me.
50 Pour moi, je ne cherche point ma gloire; il est quelqu’un qui la cherchera et qui jugera.
And I seek not my own glory; there is One that seeketh it, and judgeth.
51 En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis: Si quelqu’un garde ma parole, il ne verra jamais la mort. (aiōn g165)
Verily, verily, I say unto you, If any one keep my word, he shall never see death. (aiōn g165)
52 Mais les Juifs lui dirent: Maintenant nous connaissons qu’il y a un démon en toi. Abraham est mort et les prophètes aussi, et tu dis: Si quelqu’un garde ma parole, il ne goûtera jamais de la mort. (aiōn g165)
The Jews therefore said unto Him, Now we are sure that thou art possessed by a demon. Abraham is dead, and the prophets too; and thou sayest, If any one keep my word, he shall never taste of death: art thou greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? (aiōn g165)
53 Es-tu plus grand que notre père Abraham qui est mort? et les prophètes sont morts aussi? Qui prétends-tu être?
and the prophets are dead: whom dost thou pretend to be?
54 Jésus répondit: Si je me glorifie moi-même, ma gloire n’est rien; c’est mon Père qui me glorifie, lui dont vous dites qu’il est votre Dieu.
Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honor is nothing: it is my Father that glorifieth me, of whom ye say that He is your God.
55 Et vous ne l’avez pas connu; mais moi je le connais; et si je disais que je ne le connais point, je serais semblable à vous, menteur. Mais je le connais, et je garde sa parole.
And yet ye know him not; but I know Him: and if I should say, That I know Him not, I shall be like you, a liar: but I know Him, and obey his word.
56 Abraham, votre père, a tressailli pour voir mon jour; il l’a vu, et il s’est réjoui.
Your father Abraham longed to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
57 Mais les Juifs lui répliquèrent: Tu n’as pas encore cinquante ans, et tu as vu Abraham?
Then said the Jews unto Him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
58 Jésus leur dit: En vérité, en vérité, avant qu’Abraham eût été fait, je suis.
Jesus said unto them, Before Abraham was, I am.
59 Ils prirent donc des pierres pour les lui jeter; mais Jésus se cacha, et sortit du temple.
Therefore they took up stones to throw at Him. But Jesus concealed Himself, and went out of the temple, through the midst of them, and so passed on.
