Jean 13
1 Avant la fête de la pâque, Jésus sachant que son heure était venue de passer de ce monde à son Père, comme il avait aimé les siens, qui étaient dans le monde, il les aima jusqu’à la fin.
Before the feast day of the Passover, Jesus knew that the hour was approaching when he would pass from this world to the Father. And since he had always loved his own who were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
2 Et le souper fini, lorsque déjà le diable avait mis dans le cœur de Judas fils de Simon Iscariote de le trahir;
And when the meal had taken place, when the devil had now put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray him,
3 Sachant que son Père lui avait remis toutes choses entre les mains, et qu’il était sorti de Dieu et retournait à Dieu,
knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands and that he came from God and was going to God,
4 Il se leva de table, posa ses vêtements, et ayant pris un linge, il s’en ceignit.
he rose up from the meal, and he set aside his vestments, and when he had received a towel, he wrapped it around himself.
5 Ensuite il versa de l’eau dans un bassin, et commença à laver les pieds de ses disciples, et à les essuyer avec le linge dont il était ceint;
Next he put water into a shallow bowl, and he began to wash the feet of the disciples and to wipe them with the towel with which he was wrapped.
6 Il vint à Simon Pierre, et Pierre lui dit: Vous, Seigneur, vous me lavez les pieds?
And then he came to Simon Peter. And Peter said to him, “Lord, would you wash my feet?”
7 Jésus répondit et lui dit: Tu ne sais pas maintenant ce que je fais; mais tu le sauras plus tard.
Jesus responded and said to him: “What I am doing, you do not now understand. But you shall understand it afterward.”
8 Pierre lui dit: Jamais vous ne me laverez les pieds. Jésus lui répondit: Si je ne te lave, tu n’auras point de part avec moi, (aiōn g165)
Peter said to him, “You shall never wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you will have no place with me.” (aiōn g165)
9 Simon Pierre lui dit: Seigneur, non seulement les pieds, mais encore les mains et la tête.
Simon Peter said to him, “Then Lord, not only my feet, but also my hands and my head!”
10 Jésus lui dit: Celui qui a été lavé n’a besoin que de laver ses pieds, et il est entièrement pur. Vous aussi, vous êtes purs, mais non pas tous.
Jesus said to him: “He who is washed need only wash his feet, and then he will be entirely clean. And you are clean, but not all.”
11 Car il savait celui qui le trahirait; c’est pourquoi il dit: Vous n’êtes pas tous purs.
For he knew which one would betray him. For this reason, he said, “You are not all clean.”
12 Après donc qu’il leur eut lavé les pieds, et qu’il eut repris ses vêtements, s’étant remis à table, il leur dit: Savez-vous ce que je viens de vous faire?
And so, after he washed their feet and received his vestments, when he had sat down at table again, he said to them: “Do you know what I have done for you?
13 Vous m’appelez vous-mêmes Maître et Seigneur; et vous dites bien, car je le suis.
You call me Teacher and Lord, and you speak well: for so I am.
14 Si donc je vous ai lavé les pieds, moi votre Maître et votre Seigneur, vous devez, vous aussi, vous laver les pieds les uns aux autres.
Therefore, if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash the feet of one another.
15 Car je vous ai donné l’exemple, afin que, comme je vous ai fait, vous fassiez aussi vous-mêmes.
For I have given you an example, so that just as I have done for you, so also should you do.
16 En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, le serviteur n’est pas plus grand que son maître, ni l’apôtre plus grand que celui qui l’a envoyé.
Amen, amen, I say to you, the servant is not greater than his Lord, and the apostle is not greater than he who sent him.
17 Si vous savez ces choses, vous serez heureux, pourvu que vous les pratiquiez.
If you understand this, you shall be blessed if you will do it.
18 Je ne dis pas ceci de vous tous; je sais bien ceux que j’ai choisis; mais c’est pour que s’accomplisse l’Ecriture: Celui qui mange le pain avec moi, lèvera contre moi son pied.
I am not speaking about all of you. I know those whom I have chosen. But this is so that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘He who eats bread with me shall lift up his heel against me.’
19 Je vous le dis à présent, avant que cela arrive, afin que lorsque ce sera arrivé, vous me croyiez ce que je suis.
And I tell you this now, before it happens, so that when it has happened, you may believe that I am.
20 En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis: Qui reçoit celui que j’aurai envoyé, me reçoit; et qui me reçoit, reçoit celui qui m’a envoyé.
Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever receives anyone whom I send, receives me. And whoever receives me, receives him who sent me.”
21 Lorsqu’il eut dit ces choses, Jésus fut troublé en son esprit; puis il parla ouvertement et dit: En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, un de vous me trahira.
When Jesus had said these things, he was troubled in spirit. And he bore witness by saying: “Amen, amen, I say to you, that one among you shall betray me.”
22 Les disciples donc se regardaient l’un l’autre, incertains de qui il parlait.
Therefore, the disciples looked around at one another, uncertain about whom he spoke.
23 Or un des disciples de Jésus, que Jésus aimait, reposait sur son sein.
And leaning against the bosom of Jesus was one of his disciples, the one whom Jesus loved.
24 Simon Pierre lui fit donc signe et lui dit: Qui est celui dont il parle?
Therefore, Simon Peter motioned to this one and said to him, “Who is it that he is speaking about?”
25 C’est pourquoi ce disciple s’étant penché sur le sein de Jésus, lui dit: Seigneur, qui est-ce?
And so, leaning against the chest of Jesus, he said to him, “Lord, who is it?”
26 Jésus répondit: C’est celui à qui je présenterai du pain trempé. Et ayant trempé du pain, il le donna à Judas Iscariote, fils de Simon.
Jesus responded, “It is he to whom I shall extend the dipped bread.” And when he had dipped the bread, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, son of Simon.
27 Or après une bouchée, Satan entra en lui, et Jésus lui dit: Ce que tu fais, fais-le vite.
And after the morsel, Satan entered into him. And Jesus said to him, “What you are going to do, do quickly.”
28 Mais aucun de ceux qui étaient à table ne sut pourquoi il lui dit cela.
Now none of those sitting at table knew why he had said this to him.
29 Car quelques-uns pensaient que comme Judas avait la bourse, Jésus lui avait dit: Achète ce dont nous avons besoin pour la fête, ou donne quelque chose aux pauvres.
For some were thinking that, because Judas held the purse, that Jesus had told him, “Buy those things which are needed by us for the feast day,” or that he might give something to the needy.
30 Judas ayant donc pris cette bouchée sortit aussitôt. Or il était nuit.
Therefore, having accepted the morsel, he went out immediately. And it was night.
31 Lorsqu’il fut sorti, Jésus dit: Maintenant le Fils de l’homme a été glorifié, et Dieu a été glorifié en lui.
Then, when he had gone out, Jesus said: “Now the Son of man has been glorified, and God has been glorified in him.
32 Si Dieu a été glorifié en lui, Dieu aussi le glorifiera en lui-même, et c’est bientôt qu’il le glorifiera.
If God has been glorified in him, then God will also glorify him in himself, and he will glorify him without delay.
33 Mes petits enfants, je ne suis que pour peu de temps encore avec vous. Vous me chercherez, et comme j’ai dit aux Juifs: Où je vais, vous ne pouvez venir; je vous le dis aussi à vous maintenant.
Little sons, for a brief while, I am with you. You shall seek me, and just as I said to the Jews, ‘Where I am going, you are not able to go,’ so also I say to you now.
34 Je vous donne un commandement nouveau: C’est que vous vous aimiez les uns les autres; mais que vous vous aimiez les uns les autres comme je vous ai aimés.
I give you a new commandment: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, so also must you love one another.
35 C’est en cela que tous connaîtront que vous êtes mes disciples, si vous avez de l’amour les uns pour les autres.
By this, all shall recognize that you are my disciples: if you will have love for one another.”
36 Simon Pierre lui dit: Seigneur, où allez-vous? Jésus répondit: Où je vais, tu ne peux me suivre à présent; mais tu me suivras ensuite.
Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus responded: “Where I am going, you are not able to follow me now. But you shall follow afterward.”
37 Pierre lui dit: Pourquoi ne puis-je vous suivre à présent? Je donnerai mon âme pour vous.
Peter said to him: “Why am I unable to follow you now? I will lay down my life for you!”
38 Jésus lui répondit: Tu donneras ton âme pour moi? En vérité, en vérité, je te le dis, un coq ne chantera pas que tu ne m’aies renié trois fois.
Jesus answered him: “You will lay down your life for me? Amen, amen, I say to you, the rooster will not crow, until you deny me three times.”
