1 Jésus donc, six jours avant la pâque, vint à Béthanie, où était mort Lazare qu’avait ressuscité Jésus.
And six days before the passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where was that Lazarus whom Jesus raised from the dead.
2 On lui prépara là un souper; Marthe servait, et Lazare était un de ceux qui étaient à table avec lui.
And they made a supper for him there: and Martha served, and Lazarus was one of the guests with him.
3 Or Marie prit une livre de parfum d’un nard pur de grand prix; elle en oignit les pieds de Jésus, et les essuya avec ses cheveux, et la maison fut remplie de l’odeur du parfum.
And Mary took an alabaster box of perfume of choice spikenard, of great price; and anointed the feet of Jesus; and she wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the odor of the perfume.
4 Alors un de ses disciples, Judas Iscariote, qui devait le trahir, dit:
Then said Judas Iscariot, one of the disciples, he that was about to betray him:
5 Pourquoi ce parfum n’a-t-il pas été vendu trois cents deniers, et n’a-t-il pas été donné aux pauvres?
Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred denarii, and given to the poor?
6 Or il dit cela, non qu’il se souciât des pauvres, mais parce qu’il était voleur, et qu’ayant la bourse, il portait ce qu’on y mettait.
And this he said, not be cause he cared for the poor, but because he was thief, and held the purse, and carried what was put in it.
7 Jésus dit donc: Laissez-la réserver ce parfum pour le jour de ma sépulture.
But Jesus said: Let her alone; she hath kept it for the day of my burial.
8 Car, les pauvres, vous les avez toujours avec vous, mais moi, vous ne m’avez pas toujours.
For the poor are always with you, but I am not with you always.
9 Une grande multitude de Juifs sut qu’il était là; et ils y vinrent, non à cause de Jésus seulement, mais pour voir Lazare, qu’il avait ressuscité d’entre les morts.
And great multitudes of the Jews heard that he was there: and they came, not only on account of Jesus, but also that they might see Lazarus, whom he raised from the dead.
10 Les princes des prêtres songèrent donc à faire mourir Lazare lui-même,
And the chief priests deliberated about killing even Lazarus:
11 Parce que beaucoup d’entre les Juifs se retiraient d’eux à cause de lui, et croyaient en Jésus.
because many of the Jews, on his account, went and believed in Jesus.
12 Le lendemain, une foule nombreuse qui était venue pour la fête, ayant appris que Jésus venait à Jérusalem,
And the next day, a great multitude who had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
13 Prit des rameaux de palmiers, et alla au-devant de lui, criant: Hosanna, béni celui qui vient au nom du Seigneur, comme roi d’Israël!
took boughs of palm-trees, and went out to meet him. And they cried, and said: Hosanna, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord, the king of Israel!
14 Et Jésus trouva un ânon, et s’assit dessus, comme il est écrit:
And Jesus found an ass, and sat upon it; as it is written
15 Ne craignez point, filles de Sion, voici votre roi qui vient, assis sur le petit d’une ânesse.
Fear not, daughter of Sion. Behold, thy king cometh to thee; and he rideth upon a colt, the foal of an ass.
16 Ses disciples ne comprirent point ceci d’abord; mais quand Jésus fut entré dans sa gloire, alors ils se souvinrent que ces choses étaient écrites de lui, et qu’ils les lui avaient appliquées.
These things understood not his disciples, at that time; but when Jesus was glorified, then his disciples remembered that these things were written of him, and that they did them to him.
17 Or c’est ainsi que rendait témoignage la multitude qui était avec lui lorsqu’il appela Lazare du tombeau et le ressuscita d’entre les morts.
And the multitude that had been with him, testified that he had called Lazarus from the grave, and raised him from the dead.
18 C’est pour cela aussi que la foule vint au-devant de lui, parce qu’ils avaient appris qu’il avait fait ce miracle.
And for this reason, great multitudes went out to meet him, as they had heard that he wrought this sign.
19 Les pharisiens se dirent donc entre eux: Voyez-vous que nous ne gagnons rien? voilà que tout le monde court après lui.
But the Pharisees said, one to another: Do ye see, that ye are gaining nothing? For, lo, the whole world is going after him.
20 Or il y avait quelques gentils, de ceux qui étaient venus adorer à la fête.
And there were also among the people, some who had come up to worship at the feast.
21 Ceux-ci s’approchèrent de Philippe, qui était de Bethsaïde en Galilée, et ils le priaient disant: Seigneur, nous voudrions voir Jésus.
These came, and approached Philip, who was of Bethsaida in Galilee, and said to him: My lord, we are desirous to see Jesus.
22 Philippe vint et le dit à André; puis André et Philippe le dirent à Jésus.
Philip came and told Andrew; and Andrew and Philip told Jesus.
23 Et Jésus leur répondit, disant: L’heure est venue que le Fils de l’homme doit être glorifié.
And Jesus answered, and said to them: The hour is come that the Son of man should be glorified.
24 En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, si le grain de froment, tombant sur la terre, ne meurt pas,
Verily, verily, I say to you, That a kernel of wheat, unless it fall and die in the ground, remaineth alone; but if it die, it produceth numerous fruits.
25 Il reste seul; mais s’il meurt, il porte beaucoup de fruits. Celui qui aime son âme la perdra; et celui qui hait son âme en ce monde, la conserve pour la vie éternelle. (aiōnios g166)
He that loveth his life, will lose it; and he that hateth his life, in this world, will preserve it unto life everlasting. (aiōnios g166)
26 Si quelqu’un me sert, qu’il me suive, et où je suis, là sera aussi mon serviteur. Si quelqu’un me sert, mon Père l’honorera.
If any one is servant to me, he will come after me; and where I am, there also will my servant be. Him that serveth me, will the Father honor.
27 Maintenant mon âme est troublée. Et que dirai-je? Mon Père, délivrez-moi de cette heure. Mais c’est pour cela que je suis venu en cette heure.
Behold, now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? My Father, deliver me from this hour? But for this very cause, came I to this hour.
28 Mon Père, glorifiez votre nom. Vint donc une voix du ciel: Je l’ai glorifié et je le glorifierai encore.
Father, glorify thy name! And a voice was heard from heaven: I have glorified it; and I will glorify it again.
29 Or la foule qui était là et qui avait entendu disait: C’est le tonnerre. D’autres disaient: Un ange lui a parlé.
And the multitude standing by, heard it; and they said: There was thunder. But others said: An angel spoke with him.
30 Jésus répondit et dit: Ce n’est pas pour moi que cette voix est venue, mais pour vous.
Jesus answered, and said to them: This voice was not for my sake, but for yours.
31 C’est maintenant le jugement du monde, maintenant le prince de ce monde sera jeté dehors.
Now is the judgment of this world: now the ruler of this world is cast out.
32 Et moi, quand j’aurai été élevé de la terre, j’attirerai tout à moi;
And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to me.
33 (Or il disait cela, pour marquer de quelle mort il devait mourir.)
And this he said, to show by what manner of death, he was to die.
34 Le peuple lui répondit: Nous avons appris par la loi que le Christ demeure éternellement; et comment dis-tu, toi: Il faut que le Fils de l’homme soit élevé? Qui est-ce Fils de l’homme? (aiōn g165)
The multitude said to him: We have heard from the law, that the Messiah abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, that the Son of man is to be lifted up? Who is this Son of man? (aiōn g165)
35 Jésus leur dit donc: C’est pour un peu de temps encore que la lumière est au milieu de vous. Marchez pendant que vous avez la lumière, de peur que les ténèbres ne vous surprennent; celui qui marche dans les ténèbres ne sait où il va.
Jesus said to them: A short time longer, the light is with you. Walk, while ye have the light, lest the darkness overtake you. He that walketh in the dark, knoweth not whither he goeth.
36 Pendant que vous avez la lumière, croyez en la lumière, afin que vous soyez des enfants de lumière. Jésus dit ces choses, puis il s’en alla, et se cacha d’eux.
While the light is with you, confide in the light; that ye may be children of the light. These things said Jesus, and departed, and concealed himself from them.
37 Mais quoiqu’il eût fait de si grands miracles devant eux, ils ne croyaient pas en lui;
And although he wrought all these signs before them, they believed him not;
38 Afin que fût accomplie la parole que le prophète Isaïe a dite: Seigneur, qui a cru à ce qu’il a entendu de nous? Et le bras du Seigneur, à qui a-t-il été révélé?
that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, who said: My Lord; who hath believed our report? And to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?
39 C’est pourquoi ils ne pouvaient croire; et parce que Isaïe a dit encore:
For this reason they could not believe, because Isaiah said again:
40 Il a aveuglé leurs yeux et endurci leurs cœurs, pour qu’ils ne voient des yeux, et ne comprennent du cœur, et qu’ils ne se convertissent, et que je ne les guérisse.
They have blinded their eyes, and darkened their hearts; that they might not see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and be converted; and I should heal them.
41 Isaïe a dit ces choses quand il a vu sa gloire et qu’il a parlé de lui.
These things spake Isaiah, when he saw his glory, and spoke of him.
42 Cependant, même parmi les chefs du peuple, beaucoup crurent en lui; mais à cause des pharisiens, ils ne le confessaient point, de peur d’être rejetés de la synagogue;
And of the chiefs also, many believed on him; but on account of the Pharisees, they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue;
43 Car ils aimèrent la gloire des hommes plus que la gloire de Dieu.
for they loved the praise of men, more than the praise of God.
44 Mais Jésus s’écria et dit: Qui croit en moi ne croit pas en moi, mais en celui qui m’a envoyé.
And Jesus cried, and said: He that believeth in me, believeth not in me, but in him that sent me.
45 Et qui me voit, voit celui qui m’a envoyé.
And he that seeth me, seeth him that sent me.
46 Moi, la lumière, je suis venu dans le monde, afin que quiconque croit en moi ne demeure point dans les ténèbres.
I have come into the world, a light, that whoever believeth in me, might not abide in darkness.
47 Et si quelqu’un entend mes paroles et ne les garde point, je ne le juge pas, moi, car je ne suis pas venu pour juger le monde, mais pour sauver le monde.
And whoever shall hear my words, and not observe them, I judge him not; for I did not come to judge the world, but to vivify the world.
48 Celui qui me méprise et ne reçoit pas mes paroles, a qui le juge: la parole que j’ai annoncée sera elle-même son juge au dernier jour.
Whoever rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, there is one to judge him; the word which I speak, will judge him, at the last day.
49 Parce que je n’ai point parlé de moi-même, mais mon Père qui m’a envoyé lui-même m’a prescrit ce que je dois dire et ce dont je dois parler.
For I have not spoken from myself; but the Father who sent me, he gave me commandment, what I should speak, and what I should say.
