1 Au commencement était le Verbe, et le Verbe était en Dieu, et le Verbe était Dieu.
Originally, was, the Word, and, the Word, was, with God; and, the Word, was, God.
2 C’est lui qui au commencement était en Dieu.
The same, was originally, with God.
3 Toutes choses ont été faites par lui; et sans lui rien n’a été fait de ce qui a été fait.
All things, through him, came into existence, and, without him, came into existence, not even one thing: that which hath come into existence,
4 En lui était la vie, et la vie était la lumière des hommes;
in him, was, life, and, the life, was, the light of men.—
5 Et la lumière luit dans les ténèbres, et les ténèbres ne l’ont pas comprise.
And, the light, in the darkness, shineth; and, the darkness, thereof, laid not hold.
6 Il y eut un homme envoyé de Dieu dont le nom était Jean.
There arose a man, sent from God, whose name was, John:
7 Celui-ci vint comme témoin pour rendre témoignage à la lumière, afin que tous crussent par lui;
The same, came, for a witness, That he might bear witness, concerning the light, that, all, might believe, through him.
8 Il n’était pas la lumière, mais il devait rendre témoignage à la lumière.
He, was not the light, —but, that he might bear witness concerning the light,
9 Celui-là était la vraie lumière, qui illumine tout homme venant en ce monde.
It, was—The real light that enlighteneth every man—Coming into the world.
10 Il était dans le monde, et le monde a été fait par lui, et le monde ne l’a pas connu.
In the world, he was, and, the world, through him, came into existence, and, the world, knew him not.
11 Il est venu chez lui, et les siens ne l’ont pas reçu.
Into his own possessions, he came, and, his own people, received him not home.
12 Mais à tous ceux qui l’ont reçu, il a donné le pouvoir d’être faits enfants de Dieu; à ceux qui croient en son nom;
But, as many as did receive him, he gave, unto them, authority, children of God, to become, —unto them who were believing on his name:
13 Qui ne sont point nés du sang, ni de la volonté de la chair, ni de la volonté de l’homme, mais de Dieu.
Who—not of bloods, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but—of God, were born.
14 Et le Verbe a été fait chair, et il a habité parmi nous et nous avons vu sa gloire comme la gloire qu’un fils unique reçoit de son père, plein de grâce et de vérité.
And, the Word, became, flesh, and pitched his tent among us, and we gazed upon his glory, —a glory, as an Only-begotten from his Father. Full of favour and truth.
15 Jean rend témoignage de lui, et il crie, disant: Voici celui-ci dont j’ai dit: Celui qui doit venir après moi a été fait avant moi, parce qu’il était avant moi.
(John beareth witness concerning him, and hath cried aloud, saying—the same, was he that said—He who, after me, was coming, before me, hath advanced; because, my Chief, was he.)
16 Et nous avons tous reçu de sa plénitude, et grâce pour grâce;
Because, out of his fulness, we all, received, even favour over against favour.
17 Car la loi a été donnée par Moïse, la grâce et la vérité sont venues par Jésus-Christ.
Because, the law, through Moses, was given, favour and truth, through Jesus Christ, came into existence.
18 Personne n’a jamais vu Dieu: le Fils unique qui est dans le sein du Père est celui qui l’a fait connaître.
No one, hath seen, God, at any time: An Only Begotten God, The One existing within the bosom of the Father, He, hath interpreted [him].
19 Or voici le témoignage de Jean, lorsque les Juifs lui envoyèrent de Jérusalem des prêtres et des lévites pour lui demander: Qui es-tu?
And, this, is the witness of John, when the Jews sent forth unto him, out of Jerusalem, priests and Levites, —that they might question him—Who art, thou?
20 Car il confessa, et il ne le nia point; il confessa: Ce n’est pas moi qui suis le Christ.
and he confessed, and did not deny, —and he confessed—I, am not, the Christ;
21 Et ils lui demandèrent: Quoi donc? Es-tu Elie? Et il dit: Non. Es-tu le prophète? Et il répondit: Non.
and they questioned him—What then? Art, thou, Elijah? and he saith—I am not; The prophet, art, thou? and he answered—No!
22 Ils lui dirent donc: Qui es-tu, afin que nous donnions une réponse à ceux qui nous ont envoyés? Que dis-tu de toi-même?
So they said unto him—Who, art thou? that, an answer, we may give, unto them who sent us, —What sayest thou, concerning thyself?
23 Je suis, répondit-il, la voix de celui qui crie dans le désert: Redressez la voie du Seigneur, comme l’a dit le prophète Isaïe.
He said—I, am a Voice, of one crying aloud; —In the desert, make ye straight, the way of the Lord: according as said Isaiah the prophet.
24 Or ceux qui avaient été envoyés étaient du nombre des pharisiens.
And they had been sent forth from among the Pharisees;
25 Ils l’interrogèrent encore et lui dirent: Pourquoi donc baptises-tu, si tu n’es ni le Christ, ni Élie, ni le prophète?
and they questioned him, and said unto him—Why, then, dost thou immerse, —if, thou, art not, the Christ, nor Elijah, nor, the Prophet?
26 Jean leur répondit, disant: Moi je baptise dans l’eau, mais il y a au milieu de vous quelqu’un que vous ne connaissez point.
John answered them, saying—I, immerse, in water. In the midst of you, standeth one, whom, ye, know not; —
27 C’est lui qui doit venir après moi, qui a été fait avant moi; je ne suis même pas digne de délier la courroie de sa chaussure.
after me, coming: —Of whom, I, am not worthy that I should unloose the thong of the sandal.
28 Ceci se passa en Béthanie, au-delà du Jourdain où Jean baptisait.
These things, in Bethany, came to pass, beyond the Jordan, where John was, immersing.
29 Le jour suivant Jean vit Jésus venant à lui, et il dit: Voici l’agneau de Dieu, voici celui qui ôte le péché du monde.
On the morrow, he beholdeth Jesus, coming unto him, and saith—See! the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sin of the world.
30 C’est celui de qui j’ai dit: Après moi vient un homme qui a été fait avant moi, parce qu’il était avant moi;
This, is he, of whom, I, said—After me, cometh a man, who, before me, hath advanced, because, my Chief, was he.
31 Et moi je ne le connaissais pas; mais c’est pour qu’il fût manifesté en Israël, que je suis venu baptisant dans l’eau.
And, I, knew him not, but, that he might be manifested unto Israel, therefore, came, I, in water, immersing.
32 Jean rendit encore témoignage, disant: J’ai vu l’Esprit descendant sur lui en forme de colombe, et il s’est reposé sur lui.
And John bare witness, saying—I have gazed upon the Spirit, descending like a dove, out of heaven, —and it abode upon him.
33 Et moi je ne le connaissais pas; mais celui qui m’a envoyé baptiser dans l’eau m’a dit: Celui sur qui tu verras l’Esprit descendre et se reposer, c’est celui-là qui baptisera dans l’Esprit-Saint.
And, I, knew him not, —but, he that sent me to immerse in water, he, unto me, said—Upon whomsoever thou shalt see the Spirit descending and abiding upon him, the same, is he that immerseth in Holy Spirit.
34 Et je l’ai vu, et j’ai rendu témoignage que c’est lui qui est le Fils de Dieu.
I, therefore, have seen, and borne witness—That, this, is, the, Son of God.
35 Le jour suivant, Jean se trouvait de nouveau avec deux de ses disciples.
On the morrow, again, was John standing, and, from among his disciples, two;
36 Et regardant Jésus qui se promenait, il dit: Voilà l’agneau de Dieu.
and, looking at Jesus walking, he saith—See! the Lamb of God!
37 Les deux disciples l’entendirent parler ainsi, et ils suivirent Jésus.
and the two disciples hearkened unto him speaking, and they followed Jesus.
38 Or Jésus s’étant retourné et les voyant qui le suivaient, leur dit: Que cherchez-vous? Ils lui répondirent; Rabbi (ce qui veut dire, par interprétation, Maître), où demeurez-vous?
But Jesus, turning, and looking at them following, saith unto them—What seek ye? And, they, said unto him—Rabbi! which meaneth, when translated, Teacher, Where abidest thou?
39 Il leur dit: Venez et voyez. Ils vinrent, et virent où il demeurait, et ils restèrent avec lui ce jour-là: or, il était environ la dixième heure,
He saith unto them—Be coming, and ye shall see. They came, therefore, and saw where he abode, and, with him, they abode that day. It was about the tenth, hour.
40 Or André, frère de Simon-Pierre, était un des deux qui avaient entendu de Jean ce témoignage, et qui avaient suivi Jésus.
One of the two that heard from John and followed him, was Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter.
41 Or il rencontra d’abord son frère Simon, et lui dit: Nous avons trouvé le Messie (ce qu’on interprète par le Christ).
The same findeth, first, his own brother Simon, and saith unto him—We have found the Messiah! which is, when translated, Anointed.
42 Et il l’amena à Jésus. Et Jésus l’ayant regardé, dit: Tu es Simon, fils de Jona; tu seras appelé Céphas, ce qu’on interprète par Pierre.
He led him unto Jesus. Jesus, looking at him, said—Thou, art Simon, the son of John, —thou, shalt be called, Cephas; which is to be translated, Peter.
43 Le lendemain, Jésus voulut aller en Galilée; il trouva Philippe et lui dit: Suis-moi.
On the morrow, he desired to go forth into Galilee. And Jesus findeth Philip, and saith unto him—Be following me!
44 Or Philippe était de Bethsaïde, de la même ville qu’André et Pierre.
Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter.
45 Philippe trouva Nathanaël, et lui dit: Nous avons trouvé celui de qui Moïse a écrit dans la loi et ensuite les prophètes, Jésus, fils de Joseph de Nazareth.
Philip, findeth, Nathanael, and saith unto him—Him, of whom wrote Moses in the law, and the Prophets, have we found.—Jesus, son of Joseph, him from Nazareth!
46 Et Nathanaël lui demanda: Peut-il venir de Nazareth quelque chose de bon? Philippe lui répondit: Viens et vois.
And Nathanael said unto him—Out of Nazareth, can any good thing come? Philip saith unto him—Come, and see!
47 Jésus vit venir à lui Nathanaël, et il dit de lui: Voici vraiment un Israélite en qui il n’y a point d’artifice.
Jesus saw Nathanael coming unto him, and saith concerning him—See! Truly, an Israelite, in whom is no guile.
48 Nathanaël lui demanda: D’où me connaissez-vous? Jésus répondit et lui dit: Avant que Philippe t’appelât, lorsque tu étais sous le figuier, je t’ai vu.
Nathanael saith unto him—Whence, dost thou, know, me? Jesus answered, and said unto him—Before Philip called thee, —when thou wast under the fig-tree, I saw thee.
49 Nathanaël lui répondit et dit: Rabbi, vous êtes le Fils de Dieu, vous êtes le roi d’Israël.
Nathanael answered him—Rabbi! thou, art, the Son of God: Thou, art, King, of Israel.
50 Jésus répliqua et lui dit: Parce que je t’ai dit: Je t’ai vu sous le figuier, tu crois; tu verras de plus grandes choses.
Jesus answered, and said unto him—Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig-tree, believest thou? A greater thing than these, shalt thou see!
51 Et il ajouta: En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, vous verrez le ciel ouvert et les anges de Dieu montant et descendant sur le Fils de l’homme.
And he saith unto him—Verily, verily, I say unto you: Ye shall see heaven—when set open, and, the messengers of God, ascending and descending unto the Son of Man.
