Job 8
1 Mais, répondant, Baldad, le Suhite, dit:
Then answered Bildad the Shuchite, and said,
2 Jusques à quand diras-tu de telles choses, et les paroles de ta bouche seront-elles comme un vent qui souffle de tout côté?
How long wilt thou speak these things? and [let] like a mighty wind be the words of thy mouth?
3 Est-ce que Dieu pervertit le jugement, ou le Tout-Puissant subvertit-il la justice?
Should God pervert justice? or should the Almighty pervert righteousness?
4 Quand même tes enfants auraient péché contre lui, et qu’il les aurait abandonnés à la main de leur iniquité,
If thy children have sinned against him, then did he send them off through the means of their transgression.
5 Si toi cependant tu te lèves au point du jour pour aller vers Dieu, et que tu pries le Tout-Puissant;
If thou wilt earnestly seek for God, and make thy supplication to the Almighty;
6 Si tu marches pur et droit, aussitôt il s’éveillera pour toi, et il donnera la paix à la demeure de ta justice;
If thou become pure and upright: surely then will he watch over thee, and restore thy righteous habitation.
7 Tellement que, si tes premiers biens ont été peu de chose, tes derniers seront extrêmement augmentés.
And thy beginning will have been small; because thy latter end will grow up greatly.
8 Interroge, en effet, la génération passée, et consulte avec soin la mémoire des pères;
For ask, I pray thee, of an earlier generation, and prepare thyself to [stand by] the research of their fathers; —
9 (Car nous sommes d’hier, et nous ignorons que nos jours sur la terre sont comme une ombre.)
For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because a [mere] shadow are our days upon earth; —
10 Et eux-mêmes t’instruiront; ils te parleront, et c’est de leur cœur qu’ils tireront leurs paroles
Behold, these will truly teach thee, they will speak unto thee, and out of their very heart will they bring forth words:
11 Est-ce que le jonc peut verdir sans humidité, ou le carex croître sans eau?
Can the bulrush shoot upward without mire? can the meadow-grass grow up without water?
12 Lorsqu’il est encore en fleur, et qu’il n’a pas été cueilli par une main, il sèche avant toutes les herbes.
It is yet in its greenness, not yet cut down, when it withereth before any other grass.
13 Ainsi sont les voies de tous ceux qui oublient Dieu, et ainsi périra l’espoir de l’impie.
So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hope of the hypocrite will perish:
14 Sa folie ne lui plaira pas, et sa confiance est comme la maison de l’araignée,
[It is he] whose trust will be cut off, and but a spider's web is that in which he confideth.
15 Il s’appuiera sur sa maison, et elle ne tiendra pas debout; il l’étayera, et elle ne subsistera pas.
He leaneth against his house, but it shall not stand: he layeth fast hold on it, but it shall not remain erect.
16 Il paraît humide avant que vienne le soleil, et à son lever, son germe sortira de terre.
He is in full vigor before the sun, and over his garden his shoots go forth.
17 Ses racines se multiplieront sur un tas de pierres, et il s’arrêtera parmi des cailloux.
His roots are twisted about a stoneheap, he selecteth [for himself] a place of stones.
18 Si on l’arrache de sa place, elle le reniera et dira: Je ne te connais pas.
But when men destroy him from his place, then will it deny him, saying, I have never seen thee.
19 C’est là, en effet, la joie de sa voie, que d’autres germent ensuite de la terre.
Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the [same] dust others will grow up.
20 Dieu ne rejette pas un homme simple, et il ne tendra pas la main à des méchants,
Behold, God will not reject a perfect man, and will not hold fast by their hand the evil-doers:
21 Jusqu’à ce qu’un sourire remplisse ta bouche et un cri de joie tes lèvres.
Till he fill thy mouth with laughing, and thy lips with joyful shouting.
22 Ceux qui te haïssent seront couverts de confusion, et le tabernacle des impies ne subsistera pas.
They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame; and the tent of the wicked shall be no more.
