Job 6
1 Or, répondant, Job dit:
But Job answered, and said:
2 Plût à Dieu que mes péchés, par lesquels j’ai mérité sa colère et les maux que je souffre, fussent pesés dans une balance!
O that my sins, whereby I have deserved wrath, and the calamity that I suffer, were weighed in a balance.
3 Ceux-ci paraîtraient plus lourds que le sable de la mer: c’est pourquoi aussi mes paroles sont pleines de douleur.
As the sand of the sea this would appear heavier: therefore my words are full of sorrow:
4 Car les flèches du Seigneur sont en moi; et leur indignation a épuisé mes esprits, et les terreurs du Seigneur combattent contre moi.
For the arrows of the Lord are in me, the rage whereof drinketh up my spirit, and the terrors of the Lord war against me.
5 Est-ce qu’un onagre rugira, lorsqu’il aura de l’herbe? ou est-ce qu’un bœuf mugira, lorsqu’il sera devant une crèche pleine?
Will the wild ass bray when he hath grass? or will the ox low when he standeth before a full manger?
6 Ou pourra-t-on manger un mets insipide qui n’est pas assaisonné de sel? ou quelqu’un peut-il goûter ce qui donne la mort quand on l’a goûté?
Or can an unsavoury thing be eaten, that is not seasoned with salt? or can a man taste that which when tasted bringeth death?
7 Ce qu’auparavant mon âme ne voulait pas toucher est maintenant, dans ma détresse, ma nourriture.
The things which before my soul would not touch, now, through anguish are my meats.
8 Qui me donnera que ma demande soit accomplie, que ce que j’attends, Dieu me l’octroie?
Who will grant that my request may come: and that God may give me what I look for?
9 Que celui qui a commencé me brise lui-même, et qu’il m’extirpe; qu’il donne libre cours à sa main?
And that he that hath begun may destroy me, that he may let loose his hand, and cut me off?
10 Et que j’aie cette consolation, que, tandis que m’affligeant par la douleur, il ne m’épargne point, je ne contredise pas les paroles du Saint?
And that this may be my comfort, that afflicting me with sorrow, he spare not, nor I contradict the words of the Holy One.
11 Car quelle est ma force, pour que je tienne ferme? ou quelle est ma fin, pour que j’agisse patiemment?
For what is my strength, that I can hold out? or what is my end that I should keep patience?
12 Ce n’est pas une force de pierres, que ma force, et ma chair n’est pas d’airain.
My strength is not the strength of stones, nor is my flesh of brass.
13 Voici que je n’ai pas de secours en moi, et mes amis même se sont retirés de moi.
Behold there is no help for me in myself, and my familiar friends also are departed from me.
14 Celui qui retire à son ami la miséricorde abandonne la crainte du Seigneur.
He that taketh away mercy from his friend, forsaketh the fear of the Lord.
15 Mes frères ont passé devant moi comme un torrent qui traverse rapidement les vallées.
My brethren have passed by me, as the torrent that passeth swiftly in the valleys.
16 Ceux qui craignent la gelée, la neige tombera sur eux.
They that fear the hoary frost, the snow shall fall upon them.
17 Dans le temps où ils commenceront à se répandre, ils périront; et, dès que la chaleur viendra, ils disparaîtront de leur place.
At the time when they shall be scattered they shall perish: and after it groweth hot they shall be melted out of their place.
18 Les sentiers où ils dirigent leurs pas sont cachés; ils marcheront sur le vide, et ils périront.
The paths of their steps are entangled: they shall walk in vain, and shall perish.
19 Considérez les sentiers de Théma, les chemins de Saba, et attendez un peu.
Consider the paths of Thema, the ways of Saba, and wait a little while.
20 Ils sont confus, parce que j’ai espéré; ils sont même venus jusqu’à moi, et ils ont été couverts de confusion.
They are confounded, because I have hoped: they are come also even unto me, and are covered with shame.
21 C’est maintenant que vous êtes venus, et c’est à l’instant même que, voyant ma plaie, vous craignez.
Now you are come: and now seeing my affliction you are afraid.
22 Est-ce que j’ai dit: Secourez-moi, et donnez-moi de votre bien?
Did I say: Bring to me, and give me of your substance?
23 Ou: Délivrez-moi de la main d’un ennemi, et arrachez-moi à la main des forts?
Or deliver me from the hand of the enemy, and rescue me out of the hand of the mighty?
24 Enseignez-moi, et moi je me tairai; et si par hasard j’ai ignoré quelque chose, instruisez-moi.
Teach me, and I will hold my peace: and if I have been ignorant in any thing, instruct me.
25 Pourquoi avez-vous déprimé des paroles de vérité, puisque nul d’entre vous ne peut me convaincre?
Why have you detracted the words of truth, whereas there is none of you that can reprove me?
26 C’est seulement pour adresser des reproches que vous ajustez des mots, et c’est au vent que vous lancez des paroles.
You dress up speeches only to rebuke, and you utter words to the wind.
27 C’est sur un orphelin que vous vous ruez, et vous tâchez de renverser votre ami.
You rush in upon the fatherless, and you endeavour to overthrow your friend.
28 Cependant, ce que vous avez commencé, achevez-le; prêtez l’oreille, et voyez si je mens.
However finish what you have begun, give ear, and see whether I lie.
29 Répondez, je vous en conjure; et, disant ce qui est juste, jugez.
Answer, I beseech you, without contention: and speaking that which is just, judge ye.
30 Et vous ne trouverez pas d’iniquité sur ma langue; et dans ma bouche la folie ne retentira pas.
And you shall not And iniquity in my tongue, neither shall folly sound in my mouth.
