Job 37
1 C’est pour cela que mon cœur a été saisi d’effroi, et qu’il est sorti de sa place.
At this also my heart trembleth, and is moved upward out of its place.
2 Écoutez très attentivement sa voix terrible, et les sons qui sortent de sa bouche.
Hear, O hear, the rattling of his thunder, and the storm's roar that goeth out of his mouth.
3 Lui-même porte ses regards au-dessous de tous les cieux, et sa lumière se répand sur les confins de la terre.
Under the whole heavens he letteth it loose, and his lightning over the ends of the earth.
4 Après lui un bruit éclatera comme un rugissement; il tonnera par la voix de sa grandeur, et lorsqu’on aura entendu sa voix, on ne pourra la comprendre.
Behind it roareth the thunder; he thundereth with his majestic voice; and he holdeth them not back when his voice is heard.
5 Dieu tonnera merveilleusement par sa voix, lui qui fait des choses grandes et impénétrables;
God thundereth with his marvelous voice: he doth great things, which we cannot comprehend.
6 Qui ordonne de descendre sur la terre à la neige et aux pluies de l’hiver, et à ses fortes ondées;
For to the snow he saith, Be thou on the earth: likewise the pouring rain, and to the pouring rains of his strength.
7 Qui met un sceau sur la main de tous les hommes, afin qu’ils reconnaissent chacun leurs œuvres.
He sealeth it on the hand of every man, that all men whom he hath made may know it.
8 La bête entrera dans sa tanière, et elle demeurera dans son antre.
Then retire the beasts into [their] dens, and rest in their lairs.
9 Des lieux intérieurs sortira la tempête, et d’Arcturus le froid.
Out of [his] chamber cometh the whirlwind, and out of the north, the cold.
10 Au souffle de Dieu, la glace se durcit, et de nouveau les eaux les plus abondantes se répandent.
From the breathing of God ice is given, and the broad waters become solid.
11 Le blé désire les nuées, et les nuées répandent leur lumière.
Also with moisture he loadeth the cloud; [and] he scattereth the cloud of his lightning;
12 Elles parcourent tous les lieux où les conduit la volonté de celui qui les gouverne, et selon ce qu’il leur a ordonné sur la face du globe de la terre,
And it is turned round about by his guidance, to execute what he commandeth it upon the face of the world, the earth.
13 Soit dans une tribu, soit dans sa terre, soit en quelque lieu de sa miséricorde que ce soit, où il leur aura commandé de se trouver.
Whether it be as a chastising rod—if this be destined for his earth—or for kindness, doth he cause it to come.
14 Job, écoute ceci attentivement; arrête-toi, et considère les merveilles de Dieu.
Give ear unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider well the wonders of God.
15 Est-ce que tu sais quand Dieu a ordonné aux pluies de faire paraître la lumière des nuées?
Dost thou know how God hath imposed [a law] on them, and [how] he hath caused the light of his cloud to shine?
16 Est-ce que tu connais les grands sentiers des nuées et les sciences parfaites?
Dost thou know aught about the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him who is perfect in knowledge?
17 Tes vêtements ne sont-ils pas échauffés, lorsque le vent du midi souffle sur la terre?
[Thou] who clothest thyself with warm garments, when He giveth the earth rest from the south wind?
18 Tu as peut-être formé avec lui les cieux qui sont très solides, comme s’ils avaient été coulés en bronze.
Hast thou with him spread out the skies, which are strong even as a molten mirror?
19 Montre-nous ce que nous pourrons lui dire; car nous, nous sommes enveloppés de ténèbres.
Let us know what we shall say unto him: we cannot set aught in order [before him] because of darkness.
20 Qui lui racontera ce que je dis? Que si un homme en parle, il sera absorbé.
Can [all] be related of him, when I speak [ever so much]? or if a man talk [of him] even till he be swallowed up [in death]?
21 Mais maintenant ils ne voient pas la lumière: soudain l’air s’épaissira en nuées, et le vent, passant, les dissipera.
Yet now men see not the light which is bright in the skies, when the wind hath passed along, and purified them.
22 C’est du côté de l’aquilon que l’or vient, et la louange qu’on donne à Dieu doit être accompagnée de crainte.
The golden [light] that cometh out of the north: around God is terrible majesty.
23 Nous ne pouvons le comprendre dignement: il est grand en puissance, en jugement et en justice, et il ne peut être l’objet d’un récit.
The Almighty, whom we cannot find out, excellent in power, and in justice, and abounding in righteousness, will not afflict:
24 C’est pourquoi les hommes le craindront, et aucun de ceux qui croient être sages n’osera le contempler.
Therefore do men fear him; he respecteth not any that are wise of heart.
