Job 33
1 Ecoute donc, Job, mes paroles, et sois attentif à tous mes discours.
Therefore do thou but hear, O Job, my speeches, and give ear to all my words.
2 Voilà que j’ai ouvert ma bouche, que ma langue parle dans ma gorge.
Behold now, I have opened my mouth, my tongue speaketh in my mouth.
3 C’est d’un cœur simple que sortiront mes discours, et c’est un sentiment pur que mes lèvres exprimeront.
Out of my straightforward heart [come] my sayings, and my lips utter knowledge clearly.
4 L’Esprit de Dieu m’a fait, le souffle du Tout-Puissant m’a donné la vie.
The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty giveth me life.
5 Si tu peux, réponds-moi, et tiens ferme en ma présence,
If thou canst, answer me, array thyself before me, stand forward.
6 Vois, Dieu m’a fait comme il t’a fait, et c est de la même boue que j’ai été formé.
Behold, I am in the same relation as thyself toward God: I myself also am cut out of the clay.
7 Cependant, que ce qu’il y a de merveilleux en moi ne t’épouvante point, et que mon éloquence ne soit pas accablante pour toi.
Behold, dread of me cannot terrify thee, and my pressure will not be too heavy upon thee.
8 Tu as donc dit à mes oreilles, et j’ai entendu la voix de tes paroles:
But thou hast said before my ears, and the sound of the words I still hear,
9 Je suis pur et sans péché; sans tache, et il n’y a point d’iniquité en moi.
“I am pure without transgression, I am quite clean; and there is no iniquity in me:
10 C’est parce que Dieu a trouvé des sujets de plaintes contre moi, qu’il a pensé que j’étais son ennemi.
Yet, behold, he findeth hateful backsliding on me, he regardeth me as an enemy unto him;
11 Il a mis mes pieds dans les chaînes, et il a gardé toutes mes voies.
He putteth my feet in the stocks, he watcheth all my paths.”
12 C’est donc en cela que tu n’as pas été justifié; car je te répondrai que Dieu est plus grand que l’homme.
Behold, In this thou art not just: I will answer thee; for God is far greater than a mortal.
13 Disputes-tu contre lui, parce qu’il ne t’a pas répondu sur toutes tes paroles?
Why dost thou contend against him? for with all his words will he not give an answer.
14 Dieu ne parle qu’une fois, et il ne répète pas ce qu’il a dit.
For God speaketh once, yea twice: [yet man] regardeth it not.
15 Pendant un songe, dans une vision nocturne, quand un profond sommeil s’empare des hommes et qu’ils dorment dans leur lit:
In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumbers upon the couch:
16 C’est alors qu’il ouvre les oreilles des hommes, et que, les instruisant, il leur enseigne la science,
Then doth he lay open the ear of men, and sealeth it with their warning;
17 Pour détourner ainsi un homme des choses qu’il fait, et le délivrer de l’orgueil;
To remove the son of earth [from his intended] deed and he covereth up pride from man;
18 Retirant son âme de la corruption, et empêchant que sa vie ne tombe sous le glaive.
He withholdeth his soul from the pit, and his life from passing away by the sword.
19 Il le châtie encore par la douleur dans son lit, et il fait sécher tous ses os.
And so is he admonished by pain upon his couch, and all his bones with violent [aches].
20 Durant sa vie, le pain lui devient un objet d’aversion, ainsi que le devient pour son âme une nourriture auparavant très recherchée.
So that his inclination abhorreth bread, and his soul, the most agreeable food.
21 Toute sa chair se consumera, et ses os, qui étaient couverts, seront mis à nu.
His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen, and his bones that were not seen stick out.
22 Son âme a été proche de la corruption, et sa vie de tout ce qui pouvait lui donner la mort.
Yea, his soul draweth near unto the pit, and his life to those that slay.
23 Si un ange, un d’entre mille, parle pour lui, et qu’il annonce l’équité de cet homme,
If there be now about him one single angel, as defender, one out of a thousand, to tell for man his uprightness:
24 Dieu aura compassion de lui, et il dira: Délivre-le, afin qu’il ne descende pas dans la corruption; j’ai trouvé ce en quoi je peux lui être propice.
Then is he gracious unto him, and saith, Release him from going down to the pit, I have found an atonement.
25 Sa chair est consumée par les supplices; qu’il retourne aux jours de sa jeunesse.
His flesh becometh full again as in youth: he returneth to the days of his boyhood.
26 Il priera Dieu, et Dieu se laissera apaiser en sa faveur; il verra sa face avec jubilation, et il rendra à cet homme sa justice.
He will offer his entreaty unto God, and he will receive him in favor, that he may see his face with joy: so doth He recompense unto the mortal his righteousness.
27 Il regardera les hommes et il dira: J’ai péché, je me suis vraiment rendu coupable, et je n’ai pas reçu le châtiment dont j’étais digne.
He then should assemble men around, and say, “I had sinned, and perverted what is right, yet have I not received a like return.”
28 Il a délivré son âme, afin qu’elle n’allât pas à la mort, mais que, vivant, elle vît la lumière.
Thus he redeemeth his soul from passing into the pit, and his life will look joyously on the light.
29 Remarque bien, Dieu fait trois fois ces choses en chaque homme,
Lo, all these things doth God two or three times with man;
30 Afin de rappeler leurs âmes de la corruption, et de les illuminer de la lumière des vivants.
To bring back his soul from the pit, that she may shine in the light of life.
31 Prête attention, Job, écoute-moi; garde le silence, pendant que je parle.
Listen well, O Job, hearken unto me: keep silence, and I will truly speak.
32 Mais si tu as quelque chose à dire, réponds-moi; car je veux que tu paraisses juste.
If thou hast any words, answer me: speak, for I wish to justify thee.
33 Que si tu n’as rien, écoute-moi; garde le silence, et je t’enseignerai la sagesse.
If not, hearken thou unto me: keep silence, and I will teach thee wisdom.
