Jérémie 1
1 Paroles de Jérémie, fils d’Helcias, un des prêtres qui demeuraient à Anathoth, dans la terre de Benjamin.
The words of Jeremiah the son of Chilkiyahu, one of the priests that were in 'Anathoth in the land of Benjamin;
2 Parole du Seigneur qui lui fut adressée dans les jours de Josias, fils d’Amon, roi de Juda, en la treizième année de son règne.
To whom the word of the Lord came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon the king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign,
3 Elle lui fut aussi adressée dans les jours de Joakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, jusqu’à la fin de la onzième année de Sédécias, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, jusqu’à la transmigration de Jérusalem, au cinquième mois,
And who continued [prophet] in the days of Jehoyakim the son of Josiah the king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah the king of Judah, until the carrying away into exile of Jerusalem in the fifth month.
4 Elle me fut donc adressée la parole du Seigneur, disant:
And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
5 Avant que je t’eusse formé dans le sein de ta mère, je t’ai connu, et avant que tu fusses sorti de ses entrailles, je t’ai sanctifié, et je t’ai établi prophète parmi les nations.
Before yet I had formed thee in thy mother's body I knew thee; and before thou wast yet come forth out of the womb I sanctified thee: a prophet unto the nations did I ordain thee.
6 Et je dis: A, a, a, Seigneur Dieu; voyez, je ne sais point parler, parce que moi, je suis un enfant.
And I said, Ah, Lord Eternal! behold, I know not how to speak; for I am [but] a lad.
7 Et le Seigneur me dit: Ne dis pas: Je suis un enfant, puisque partout où je t’enverrai, ta iras; et que tout ce que je te commanderai, tu le diras.
And the Lord said unto me, Say not, I am [but] a lad; but to whomsoever I may send thee shalt thou go, and whatsoever I may command thee shalt thou speak.
8 Ne crains pas à cause d’eux, parce que moi, je suis avec toi, afin que je te délivre, dit le Seigneur.
Be not afraid because of them; for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord.
9 Et le Seigneur étendit sa main, et toucha ma bouche; et le Seigneur me dit: Voilà que j’ai mis ma parole en ta bouche.
And the Lord stretched forth his hand, and touched [me] therewith on my mouth; and the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.
10 Voilà qu’aujourd’hui je t’ai établi sur les nations et sur les royaumes, afin que tu arraches et que tu détruises, et que tu perdes et que tu dissipes, et que tu édifies et que tu plantes.
See, I have appointed thee this day over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down: to build up, and to plant.
11 Et la parole du Seigneur me fut encore adressée, disant: Que vois-tu, toi, Jérémie? Et je dis: Je vois une verge qui veille.
And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, What seest thou, Jeremiah? And I said, A staff of all almond-tree do I see.
12 Et le Seigneur me dit: Tu as bien vu, parce que je veillerai sur ma parole, afin que je l’accomplisse.
And the Lord said unto me, Thou hast well seen; for I am watching over my word to perform it.
13 Et la parole du Seigneur me fut adressée une seconde fois, disant: Que vois-tu, toi? Et je dis: Je vois une marmite bouillante, et sa face venant de la face de l’aquilon.
And the word of the Lord came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, A seething pot do I see; and the front thereof is turned from the north.
14 Et le Seigneur me dit: C’est de l’aquilon que se déploiera le mal sur tous les habitants de la terre;
And the Lord said unto me, Out of the north shall the evil break forth over all the inhabitants of the land,
15 Parce que voici que moi, je convoquerai toutes les familles des royaumes de l’aquilon, dit le Seigneur; et elles viendront, et elles établiront chacune son trône à l’entrée des portes de Jérusalem, et sur tous ses murs à l’entour, et dans toutes les villes de Juda.
For, lo, I will call unto all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the Lord; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and upon all its walls round about, and upon [those of] all the cities of Judah.
16 Et je leur dirai mes jugements sur toute la malice de ceux qui m’ont délaissé, qui ont fait des libations à des dieux étrangers et ont adoré l’ouvrage de leurs mains.
And I will call them to account touching all their wickedness, in that they have forsaken me, and have burnt incense unto other gods, and have bowed down unto the works of their own hands.
17 Toi donc, ceins tes reins, et lève-toi, et dis-leur tout ce que moi, je te commande. Ne crains pas devant leur face; car je ferai que tu ne craignes pas leur visage.
But do thou gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I may command thee; be not discouraged because of them, lest I humble thee before them.
18 Car c’est moi qui t’ai établi aujourd’hui comme une ville fortifiée, et une colonne de fer, et un mur d’airain sur toute la terre, contre les rois de Juda, ses princes, et ses prêtres et son peuple.
But I, behold, I have made of thee this day a fortified city, and an iron pillar, and brazen walls over the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against its princes, against its priests, and against the people of the land.
19 Et ils combattront contre toi, et ne prévaudront point, parce que moi je suis avec toi, dit le Seigneur, afin que je te délivre.
And [although] they fight against thee, they shall not prevail against thee; for with thee am I saith the Lord, to deliver thee.
