Jérémie 50
1 Parole que le Seigneur dit sur Babylone et sur les Chaldéens par l’entremise de Jérémie, le prophète.
The word that the Lord spoke concerning Babylon, concerning the land of the Chaldeans, by means of Jeremiah the prophet.
2 Annoncez parmi les nations, et faites-le entendre; levez l’étendard, publiez, ne cachez point, dites: Babylone est prise. Bel est couvert de confusion, Mérodach est vaincu; ses images taillées au ciseau sont couvertes de confusion, leurs idoles sont vaincues.
Announce ye among the nations, and publish, and lift up a standard; publish, conceal not; say, Babylon is captured, Bel is put to shame, Merodach is broken in pieces; put to shame are her idols; broken in pieces are her images.
3 Parce qu’une nation est montée contre elle venant de l’aquilon, laquelle réduira sa terre en solitude; et il n’y aura personne qui habitera en elle depuis l’homme jusqu’à la bête; et ils ont été troublés, et ils s’en sont allés.
For there is come up against her a nation out of the north, which will change her land into a desert, so that there shall not be any one dwelling therein: both man and beast are fled away, they are departed.
4 En ces jours-là, et en ce temps-là, dit le Seigneur, viendront les fils d’Israël et les fils de Juda, et marchant ensemble, et pleurant, ils se hâteront et ils chercheront le Seigneur leur Dieu.
In those days, and at that time, saith the Lord, shall the children of Israel come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping shall they go, and the Lord their God shall they seek.
5 Ils demanderont le chemin de Sion; vers elle se tourneront leurs faces. Ils viendront et s’uniront au Seigneur par une alliance éternelle qui ne sera nullement effacée par l’oubli.
After Zion shall they ask, with their faces on the way thitherward, [saying, ] Come: and they will join themselves to the Lord in a perpetual covenant that shall not be forgotten.
6 Mon peuple est devenu un troupeau perdu; leurs pasteurs les ont séduits et les ont fait errer dans les montagnes; ils sont passés d’une montagne en une colline; ils ont oublié le lieu de leur repos.
Lost sheep were my people; their shepherds had caused them to go astray, they had let them roam wildly on the mountains: from mountain to hill did they go, they forgot their resting-place.
7 Tous ceux qui les ont trouvés les ont dévorés; et leurs ennemis ont dit: Nous n’avons pas péché; parce qu’ils ont péché contre le Seigneur, la splendeur de la justice, contre le Seigneur, l’attente de leurs pères.
All that found them devoured them; and their adversaries said, We offend not, because they have sinned against the Lord, the habitation of righteousness, and the hope of their fathers, the Lord.
8 Retirez-vous du milieu de Babylone, et sortez de la terre des Chaldéens; soyez comme des béliers devant un troupeau.
Fly away out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be ye as the he-goats before the flocks.
9 Parce que voilà que moi je suscite et que j’amènerai contre Babylone une assemblée de grandes nations de la terre de l’Aquilon; et elles se prépareront contre elle; et de là elle sera prise; sa flèche, comme celle d’un homme fort qui tue, ne retournera pas vide.
For, lo, I will awaken and cause to come up against Babylon an assemblage of great nations from the north country; and they shall set themselves in battle-array against her; from there shall she be captured: their arrows are as those of a skilful mighty one, none of which ever returneth in vain.
10 Et la Chaldée sera en proie: tous ses dévasteurs seront remplis de dépouilles, dit le Seigneur.
And Chaldea shall be given up to spoil: all that spoil her shall be satisfied, saith the Lord.
11 Parce que vous exultez et dites de grandes choses en pillant mon héritage; parce que vous vous êtes répandus comme des veaux sur l’herbe et que vous avez mugi comme des taureaux.
Though ye rejoice, though ye be glad, O ye plunderers of my heritage, though ye be grown fat as the heifer at grass, and neigh as stud-horses:
12 Votre mère a été couverte de confusion extrêmement, et elle a été égalée à la poussière, celle qui vous a engendrés; voilà qu’elle sera la dernière parmi les nations, déserte, sans chemin frayé, et aride.
Your mother is made greatly ashamed; she that bore you is put to the blush; behold, the end of nations shall be wilderness, dry land, and desert.
13 À cause de la colère du Seigneur, elle ne sera pas habitée, mais elle sera tout entière réduite en une solitude; quiconque passera par Babylone, sera frappé de stupeur et sifflera sur toutes ses plaies.
Because of the wrath of the Lord shall it not be inhabited, and it shall be wholly desolate: every one that passeth by Babylon shall be astonished, and hiss over all her wounds.
14 Préparez-vous contre Babylone de tous côtes, vous tous qui tendez l’arc; combattez-la, n’épargnez point les flèches, parce que c’est contre le Seigneur qu’elle a péché.
Put yourselves in battle-array against Babylon round about, all ye that bend the bow, shoot at her, spare not the arrows: for against the Lord hath she sinned.
15 Criez contre elle; partout elle a donné la main; ses fondements sont tombés, ses murs sont détruits, parce que c’est la vengeance du Seigneur, prenez vengeance d’elle; comme elle a fait, faites-lui.
Shout against her round about; she hath stretched out her hand: fallen are her foundations, thrown down are her walls; for it is the vengeance of the Lord; take vengeance upon her; as she hath done, so do unto her.
16 Exterminez de Babylone le semeur, et celui qui tient la faucille au temps de la moisson; à la force du glaive de la colombe chacun vers son peuple retournera, et les uns après les autres dans leur terre s’enfuiront.
Cut off the sower from Babylon, and him that handleth the sickle in the time of harvest; because of the wasting sword shall they turn about every one to his people, and every one to his own land shall they flee.
17 C’est un troupeau dispersé qu’Israël; des lions l’ont chassé; le premier qui l’a mangé est le roi d’Assur; celui-ci, le dernier, lui a brisé les os, Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone.
A scattered lamb is Israel; the lions have driven him away: first the king of Assyria devoured him; and this last one broke his bones, [even] Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon.
18 À cause de cela, voici ce que dit le Seigneur des armées, le Dieu d’Israël: Voilà que moi je visiterai le roi de Babylone, et sa terre, comme j’ai visité le roi d’Assur;
Therefore thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will inflict punishment on the king of Babylon and on his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria.
19 Et je ramènerai Israël dans sa demeure, il paîtra sur le Carmel et en Basan, et sur la montagne d’Ephraïm et de Galaad son âme se rassasiera.
And I will bring Israel back again to his habitation, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan: and upon the mountain of Ephraim and Gil'ad shall his soul be satisfied.
20 En ces jours-là, et en ce temps-là, dit le Seigneur, on cherchera l’iniquité d’Israël et elle ne sera pas; le péché de Juda et il ne sera pas trouvé; parce que je serai propice à ceux que j’aurai laissés.
In those days, and at that time, saith the Lord, shall the iniquity of Israel be sought for, and it shall not be there; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found; for I will pardon those whom I will leave remaining.
21 Monte sur la terre des dominateurs, et visite ses habitants; dissipe et tue ce qui est derrière eux, dit le Seigneur; et fais tout selon que je t’ai ordonné.
Against the land of twofold rebellion—even against it go thou up, and against the inhabitants of the country of punishment: lay in ruins and utterly destroy their offspring, saith the Lord, and do in accordance with all that I have commanded thee.
22 Voix de guerre sur la terre et grande destruction.
A sound of battle [is heard] in the land, and of great destruction.
23 Comment a-t-il été rompu et brisé, le marteau de toute la terre? Comment Babylone a-t-elle été changée en un désert parmi les nations?
How is cut asunder and broken the hammer of all the earth! how is Babylon become an astonishment among the nations!
24 Je t’ai enlacée, et tu as été prise, Babylone, et tu ne le savais pas; tu as été trouvée et saisie, parce que c’est le Seigneur que tu as provoqué.
I have laid a snare for thee, and thou art also captured, O Babylon, while thou wast not aware: thou art found, and also caught, because thou hadst entered into a contest against the Lord.
25 Le Seigneur a ouvert son trésor et il en a tiré les instruments de sa colère, parce que le Seigneur, Dieu des armées, en a besoin dans la terre des Chaldéens.
The Lord hath opened his treasury, and hath brought forth the weapons of his indignation; for it is a work for the Lord, the Eternal of hosts, in the land of the Chaldeans.
26 Venez vers elle des confins les plus éloignés; ouvrez, afin que sortent ceux qui doivent la fouler aux pieds; ôtez de la voie les pierres, et mettez-les en monceaux, et tuez-la et qu’il n’y ait rien de reste.
Come against her from the end of the earth, open her garners; tread her down as sheaves of corn, and destroy her utterly: let there not be left of her a remnant even.
27 Dissipez tous ses braves, qu’ils descendent à la tuerie; malheur à eux, parce qu’est venu leur jour, le temps de leur visite.
Destroy all her bullocks; let them go down to the slaughter: Woe unto them! for their day is come, the time of their visitation.
28 Voix de ceux qui fuient, de ceux qui sont échappés de la terre de Babylone, afin qu’ils annoncent à Sion la vengeance du Seigneur, notre Dieu, la vengeance de son temple.
There is the voice of those that flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to tell in Zion the vengeance of the Lord our God, the vengeance for his temple.
29 Annoncez à tous ceux qui tendent l’arc en si grand nombre de marcher contre Babylone; tenez-vous contre elle tout au autour, et que personne n’échappe; rendez-lui selon son œuvre; selon tout ce qu’elle a fait, faites-lui, parce que c’est contre le Seigneur qu’elle s’est élevée, contre le saint d’Israël.
Call together the archers against Babylon; all ye that bend the bow, encamp against her round about; let there be no escape for her: recompense her according to her work; in accordance with all that she hath done, do unto her; for against the Lord hath she acted presumptuously, against the Holy One of Israel.
30 C’est pour cela que ses jeunes hommes tomberont sur ses places et que tous ses hommes de guerre se tairont en ce jour-là, dit le Seigneur.
therefore shall her young men fall in her streets, and all her men of war shall perish on that day, saith the Lord.
31 Voilà que moi-même je viens à toi, superbe, dit le Seigneur, Dieu des armées, parce qu’est venu ton jour, le jour de ta visite.
Behold, I am against thee, O presumptuous one! saith the Lord, the Eternal of hosts; for thy day is come, the time that I will visit thee [with punishment].
32 Et il tombera, le superbe, et il sera renversé, et il n’y aura personne qui le relèvera; et j’allumerai un feu dans ses villes; et il dévorera tout ce qui est autour de lui.
And the presumptuous shall stumble and fall, with none to raise him up: and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all his environs.
33 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur des armées: Les fils d’Israël et les fils de Juda souffrent ensemble l’oppression: tous ceux qui les ont pris les retiennent, et ne veulent pas les laisser aller.
Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, The children of Israel and the children of Judah are oppressed together: and all that took them captive hold them fast; they refuse to dismiss them.
34 Leur rédempteur est fort; son nom est le Seigneur des armées; en jugement il défendra leur cause, afin d’épouvanter la terre et d’agiter les habitants de Babylone.
Their Redeemer is strong; The Lord of hosts is his name: he will surely contend in their cause, in order that he may give rest to the land, and make the inhabitants of Babylon tremble.
35 Glaive sur les Chaldéens, dit le Seigneur, sur les habitants de Babylone, sur ses princes et ses sages.
The sword is upon the Chaldeans, saith the Lord, and against the inhabitants of Babylon, and against her princes, and against her wise men.
36 Glaive sur ses devins qui seront insensés; glaive sur ses braves qui seront dans l’effroi.
The sword is against the lying soothsayers, and they shall be made foolish: the sword is against her mighty men, and they shall be dismayed.
37 Glaive sur ses chevaux et sur ses chars, et sur tout le peuple qui est au milieu d’elle; et ils seront comme des femmes; glaive sur ses trésors qui seront pillés.
The sword is against their horses, and against their chariots, and against all the confederates that are in the midst of her, and they shall become as women: the sword is against her treasures, and they shall be plundered.
38 La sécheresse sera sur ses eaux, et elles tariront; parce que c’est la terre des images taillées au ciseau, et ils se glorifient dans des monstres.
The drought is against her waters, and they shall be dried up; for it is the land of graven images, and with their horrid idols do they play the madman.
39 À cause de cela, les dragons y habiteront avec les faunes qui recherchent les figues; et les autruches habiteront en elle; et elle ne sera plus habitée à jamais, elle ne sera pas reconstruite dans la suite des générations.
Therefore shall martens dwell [there] with jackals, and the ostriches shall dwell therein: and it shall be not inhabited any more for ever; and it shall not be dwelt in from generation to generation.
40 Ainsi que le Seigneur a renversé Sodome et Gomorrhe, et ses voisines, dit le Seigneur; un homme n’y habitera pas, et le fils d’un homme n’y séjournera pas.
Like the overthrow by God of Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighbors, saith the Lord, so shall no man dwell there, nor shall any son of man sojourn therein.
41 Voilà qu’un peuple vient de l’Aquilon, et une grande nation, et un grand nombre de rois s’élèveront des confins de la terre.
Behold, a people cometh from the north, and a great nation, and many kings shall be awakened from the farthest ends of the earth.
42 Ils saisiront l’arc et le bouclier; ils sont cruels et impitoyables; leur voix comme la mer retentira; et sur leurs chevaux ils monteront comme un homme prêt au combat contre toi, fille de Babylone.
Bow and lance do they firmly grasp; they are cruel, and show not any mercy; their voice roareth like the sea, and upon horses do they ride, placed in array, like one man, for the battle, against thee, O daughter of Babylon.
43 Le roi de Babylone a appris la nouvelle de leur dessein, et ses mains ont défailli; l’angoisse l’a saisi, et la douleur, comme une femme en travail.
The king of Babylon hath heard the report of them, and his hands are grown feeble: anguish hath taken fast hold of him, pangs as of a woman in travail.
44 Voilà que comme un lion il montera de l’orgueil du Jourdain vers une beauté puissante; parce que soudain je le ferai courir vers elle; et quel est l’élu que je préposerai sur elle? car qui est semblable à moi? qui tiendra contre moi? et quel est le pasteur qui résistera à mon visage?
Behold, like a lion shall he come up from the overflow of the Jordan unto the strong habitation; for I will hasten them [and] make them suddenly prevail over her, and him who is chosen will I array against her; for who like me? and who will challenge me to battle? and who is that shepherd that can stand before me?
45 À cause de cela, écoutez le dessein que le Seigneur a conçu en son esprit contre Babylone, et les pensées qu’il a méditées contre la terre des Chaldéens; il a dit: Je jure si les petits troupeaux, ne les enlèveront pas; et si leur habitation ne sera pas détruite avec eux.
Therefore hear ye the counsel of the Lord, that he hath resolved against Babylon; and his purposes, that he hath devised against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the least of the flock shall drag them away; surely he will devastate over them their habitation.
46 À la voix de la captivité de Babylone, la terre a été agitée, et une clameur parmi les nations a été entendue.
At the noise of the conquest of Babylon the earth quaketh, and the outcry is heard among the nations.
