Jérémie 48
1 À Moab, voici ce que dit le Seigneur des armées, Dieu d’Israël: Malheur à Nabo, parce qu’elle a été dévastée et couverte de confusion; Cariathaïm a été prise; la forte a été couverte de confusion, et elle a tremblé,
Against Moab. Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Woe unto Nebo! for it is wasted; made ashamed, captured is Kiryathayim; made ashamed is Misgab and dismayed.
2 Il n’y a plus d’exultation dans Moab contre Hésébon; ses ennemis ont conspiré. Venez, et perdons-la entièrement comme nation; ainsi tu garderas un silence absolu, et le glaive te suivra.
There is no more praise of Moab: in Cheshbon have they devised evil against it, “Come, and let us cut it off from being a nation.” Also thou Madmen shalt be ruined; after thee shall pursue the sword.
3 Voix de clameur qui s’élève d’Oronaïm: dévastation et grande destruction.
There is a voice of crying from Choronayim, destruction and a great breach.
4 Moab est brisée, annoncez un cri à ses petits enfants.
Broken down is Moab: her little ones send forth a cry of distress.
5 Par la montée de Luith, gémissant, elle montera en pleur, parce qu’à la descente d’Oronaïm les ennemis ont entendu un hurlement de destruction:
For the ascent of Luchith is ascended with weeping and tears; for on the descent of Choronayim the enemies have heard the cry of destruction.
6 Fuyez, sauvez vos âmes; et vous serez comme des bruyères dans le désert.
Flee, save your life, and be ye like the solitary tree in the wilderness.
7 Parce que tu as eu confiance dans tes fortifications et dans tes trésors, toi aussi tu seras prise; et Chamos émigrera, et ses prêtres et ses princes en même temps.
For, because thou hast trusted in thy works and in thy treasures, thou also shalt be conquered: and Kemosh shall go forth into exile, [with] his priests and his princes together.
8 Et viendra un spoliateur dans toutes les villes, et nulle ville ne sera sauvée; et les vallées périront, et les campagnes seront ravagées, parce que l’a dit le Seigneur.
And the water shall come over every city, and no city shall escape: and lost shall be the valley, and destroyed shall be the plain, as the Lord hath said.
9 Donnez une fleur à Moab, parce qu’elle sortira florissante, et ses cités seront désertes et inhabitables.
Give wings unto Moab, that she may flee and get away; since her cities shall become desolate, without any to dwell therein.
10 Maudit celui qui fait l’œuvre du Seigneur frauduleusement; et maudit celui qui empêche son glaive de verser le sang.
Cursed be he that doth the work of the Lord negligently, and cursed be he that withholdeth his sword from blood.
11 Moab dès sa jeunesse a été fertile, et il s’est reposé sur sa lie; il n’a pas été versé d’un vase dans un autre vase, et il n’a pas émigré; c’est pour cela que son goût lui est toujours demeuré, et que son parfum n’est point changé.
Moab was ever at ease from his youth, and he was resting on his lees, and was not emptied from vessel to vessel, and had not gone into exile: therefore had his taste remained in him, and his scent was not changed.
12 À cause de cela, voici que des jours viennent, dit le Seigneur, et je lui enverrai des hommes qui disposeront et renverseront ses bouteilles, et ils le renverseront lui-même, et videront ses vases, et briseront ses bouteilles.
Therefore, behold, days are coming, saith the Lord, when I will send unto him tappers, that shall tap him, and they shall empty his vessels, and dash in pieces their bottles.
13 Et Moab sera couvert de confusion, à cause de Chamos, comme a été couverte de confusion la maison d’Israël, à cause de Béthel en qui elle avait confiance.
And Moab shall be ashamed of Kemosh, as the house of Israel were made ashamed because of Beth-el their confidence.
14 Comment dites-vous: Nous sommes braves, et des hommes robustes pour combattre?
How can ye say, We are mighty and men of bravery for the war?
15 Moab a été dévastée, ses cités ont été renversées; l’élite de ses jeunes hommes a succombé dans le carnage, dit le roi, dont le nom est le Seigneur des armées.
Moab is wasted, and into his cities hath [the enemy] ascended, and his chosen young men are gone down to the slaughter, saith the King, the Lord of hosts is his name.
16 La destruction de Moab est près d’arriver, et sa ruine accourra extrêmement vite.
Near is the calamity of Moab to come, and his misfortune hasteneth fast.
17 Consolez-le, vous tous qui êtes autour de lui; et vous tous qui savez son nom, dites: Comment a été brisée une verge puissante, un bâton glorieux?
All ye that are about him bemoan him; and all ye that know his name: say, How is the strong staff broken, the beautiful stick!
18 Descends de la gloire, assieds-toi dans la soif, habitante de la fille de Dibon; parce que le dévastateur de Moab monte vers toi, il a détruit tes fortifications.
Come down from thy glory, and sit in thirst, thou inhabitress, daughter of Dibon; for the waster of Moab cometh up against thee, he destroyeth thy strong-holds.
19 Tiens-toi sur la voie, et fais le guet, habitante d’Aroër; interroge celui qui s’est enfui, et à celui qui s’est sauvé, dis: Qu’est-il arrivé?
Stand by the way, and look out, O inhabitress of 'Aro'er: ask him that fleeth, and her that escapeth, say, What hath been done?
20 Moab a été couvert de confusion, parce qu’il a été vaincu; hurlez et criez; annoncez sur l’Arnon que Moab a été dévastée.
Moab hath been made ashamed; for it is broken down; wail, and cry aloud: tell ye it by the Arnon, that Moab is wasted,
21 Et le jugement du Seigneur est venu jusqu’à la terre de la plaine; sur Hélon, sur Jasa, et sur Méphaath,
And punishment is come over the land of the plain, over Cholon, and over Yahzah, and over Mepha'ath,
22 Et sur Dibon, et sur Nabo, et sur la maison de Déblathaïm,
And over Dibon, and over Nebo, and over Beth-diblathayim,
23 Et sur Cariathaïm, et sur Bethgamul, et sur Bethmaon.
And over Kiryathayim, and over Beth-gamul, and over Beth-me'on,
24 Et sur Carioth, et sur Bosra, et sur toutes les cités de la terre de Moab qui sont loin et qui sont près.
And over Keriyoth, and over Bozrah, and over all the cities of the land of Moab, that are far and that are near.
25 La corne de Moab a été arrachée, et son bras a été rompu, dit le Seigneur.
Hewn away is the horn of Moab, and his arm is broken, saith the Lord.
26 Enivrez-le, parce qu’il s’est élevé contre le Seigneur; Moab se heurtera la main en tombant dans son vomissement, et il sera un objet de dérision, lui aussi.
Make him drunken; for he magnified himself against the Lord: and Moab shall wallow in his vomit, and he also shall become [an object] of derision.
27 Car Israël a été un objet de dérision pour toi, comme si tu l’avais trouvé parmi des voleurs; à cause donc de tes paroles que tu as dites contre lui, tu seras mené captif.
For was not Israel a derision unto thee? or was he found among thieves? that whenever thou spokest of him, thou hadst to shake [thy head]?
28 Abandonnez les cités, et habitez dans la pierre, habitants de Moab; et soyez comme la colombe qui fait son nid dans la plus haute ouverture d’un rocher.
Leave the cities, and dwell on rocks, O ye that dwell in Moab; and be ye like the dove that maketh her nest in the sides of the mouth of rocky clefts.
29 Nous avons appris l’orgueil de Moab (il est superbe à l’excès), sa hauteur et son arrogance, et son orgueil, et la fierté de son cœur.
We have heard the pride of Moab, who is so exceedingly proud, his haughtiness, and his pride, and his arrogance, and the overbearingness of his heart.
30 Moi, je sais, dit le Seigneur, sa jactance, et que sa force n’y répond pas, et que ce qui n’était pas selon son pouvoir, elle s’est efforcée de le faire.
I will know, saith the Lord, his wrath, and how causeless it is: his liars have done what is not right.
31 C’est pour cela que sur Moab je pleurerai, et que j’adresserai mes cris à Moab tout entière, et aux hommes de mur de briques qui se lamentent.
Therefore will I wail for Moab, and for all Moab will I cry out; for the men of Kir-cheres shall people moan.
32 Du pleur de Jazer, je te pleurerai, vigne de Sabama; tes rejetons ont passé la mer, et ils sont parvenus jusqu’à la mer de Jazer; sur ta moisson et sur ta vendange un voleur s’est précipité.
With the weeping of Ya'zer will I weep for thee, O vine of Sibmah; thy tendrils [once] passed over the sea, they reached as far as to the sea of Ya'zer: over thy summer-fruits and over thy vintage the waster is fallen.
33 L’allégresse et l’exultation ont été enlevées au Carmel et à la terre de Moab, et j’ai emporté le vin des pressoirs; et le pressureur du raisin ne chantera plus sa chanson accoutumée.
And banished are joy and gladness from Carmel, and from the land of Moab; and I have caused the wine to cease from the wine-presses; none shall tread the press with the vintner's call; battle cry—nor vintner's call.
34 Par un cri qui a retenti depuis Hésébon jusqu’à Eléalé et jusqu’à Jasa, ils ont fait entendre leur voix de Ségor, génisse de trois ans, à Oronaïm; les eaux même de Nemrim seront très mauvaises.
From the loud cry of Cheshbon as far as El'aleh, even unto Yahaz, have they sent forth their voice, from Zo'ar even unto Choronayim, to the third 'Eglath; for the waters also of Nimrim shall become desolate.
35 Et j’ôterai de Moab, dit le Seigneur, et celui qui fait des oblations sur les hauteurs, et celui qui sacrifie à ses dieux.
Moreover will I cause to cease unto Moab, saith the Lord, him that offereth on the high-places, and him that burneth incense to his gods.
36 C’est pour cela que mon cœur sur Moab retentira comme une flûte; et mon cœur sur les hommes de mur de briques donnera un son de flûte; parce qu’il a fait plus qu’il ne pouvait, c’est pour cela qu’ils ont péri.
Therefore shall my heart groan for Moab like flutes, and my heart shall groan like flutes for the men of Kir-cheres; for the cause that the remnant of the riches he had gotten are lost.
37 Car toute tête sera chauve, et toute barbe sera rasée; à toutes les mains il y aura un lien, et sur tout dos un cilice.
For every head is bald, and every beard is shorn: upon all the hands are cuttings, and upon the loins is sackcloth.
38 Sur tous les toits de Moab, et dans toutes ses places, on entendra toute sorte de pleurs, parce que j’ai brisé Moab comme un vase inutile, dit le Seigneur.
Upon all the roofs of Moab, and in her streets, there is everywhere lamentation; for I have broken Moab like a vessel which hath no value, saith the Lord.
39 Comment a-t-elle été vaincue, et ont-ils poussé des hurlements? comment Moab a-t-il baissé la tête et a-t-il été couvert de confusion? Et Moab sera un objet de dérision et un exemple pour tous autour de lui.
Oh, how is it broken down! wail! how hath Moab turned the back with shame! and Moab shall be a derision and a dismay to all those around him.
40 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Comme l’aigle il volera, et il étendra ses ailes vers Moab.
For thus hath said the Lord, Behold, as the eagle shall he fly, and he shall spread out his wings over Moab.
41 Carioth a été prise, les fortifications ont été emportées; et le cœur des forts de Moab sera en ce jour-là comme le cœur d’une femme en travail.
Captured are the fortresses, and the strong-holds are conquered: and the heart of the mighty men of Moab shall be on that day as the heart of a woman in her pangs.
42 Et Moab cessera d’être un peuple, parce que contre le Seigneur il s’est glorifié.
And Moab shall be destroyed from being a people; because it hath magnified himself against the Lord.
43 L’effroi, et la fosse, et le lacs pour toi, ô habitant de Moab, dit le Seigneur.
Terror, and the pit, and the snare, shall be upon thee, O inhabitant of Moab, saith the Lord.
44 Qui aura fui à la face de l’effroi tombera dans la fosse, et qui sera monté de la fosse sera pris dans le lacs; car j’amènerai sur Moab l’année de leur visite, dit le Seigneur.
He that fleeth from the terror shall fall into the pit; and he that getteth up out of the pit shall be caught in the snare; for I will bring upon it, even upon Moab, the year of their visitation, saith the Lord.
45 À l’ombre d’Hésébon se sont arrêtés ceux qui fuyaient le lacs; mais un feu est sorti d’Hésébon, et une flamme du milieu de Séhon, et elle a dévoré une partie de Moab, et le sommet des fils du tumulte.
Under the shadow of Cheshbon stand still, deprived of strength, those that flee; but a fire cometh forth out of Cheshbon, and a flame from the midst of Sichon, and it devoureth the corner of Moab, and the crown of the head of the children of vaunting.
46 Malheur à toi, Moab! tu as péri, peuple de Chamos: tes fils ont été pris, ainsi que tes filles, pour la captivité.
Woe unto thee, O Moab! lost is the people of Kemosh; for thy sons are taken captives, and thy daughters into captivity.
47 Mais je ramènerai les captifs de Moab dans les derniers jours, dit le Seigneur. Jusqu’ici les jugements contre Moab.
Yet will I bring back again the captivity of Moab in the end of days, saith the Lord. Thus far is the punishment of Moab.
