Jérémie 44
1 Parole qui fut adressée par Jérémie à tous les Juifs qui habitaient dans la terre d’Egypte, à Magdalum, et à Taphnis, et à Memphis, et dans la terre de Phaturès, disant:
The word that came to Jeremiah for all the Jews who dwell in the land of Egypt, who dwell at Migdol, and at Thachpanches, and at Noph, and in the country of Pathros, saying,
2 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur des armées, Dieu d’Israël: Vous, vous avez vu tout le mal que j’ai amené sur Jérusalem, et sur toutes les villes de Juda; et voilà qu’elles sont désertes aujourd’hui, et qu’il n’y a pas en elles d’habitant,
Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, You yourselves have seen all the evil that I have brought over Jerusalem, and over all the cities of Judah; and, behold, they are ruins this day, and no man is dwelling in them;
3 À cause de la malice dont ils se sont rendus coupables, afin de me provoquer au courroux, en allant sacrifier, et en adorant des dieux étrangers qu’ils ne connaissaient ni eux, ni vous, ni vos pères.
Because of their wickedness which they had committed to provoke me to anger, by going to burn incense, to serve other gods, whom they did not know, either they, you, or your fathers.
4 Et j’ai envoyé vers vous tous mes serviteurs, les prophètes, me levant dès la nuit, et les envoyant et disant: Ne faites pas de ces choses abominables que je hais.
And I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, making them rise early and sending them, saying, Oh, do not commit this abominable thing which I hate.
5 Et ils n’ont pas écouté, et ils n’ont pas incliné leur oreille afin de se convertir de leur méchanceté, et de ne pas sacrifier à des dieux étrangers.
But they hearkened not, and inclined not their ear to turn away from their wickedness, so as not to burn incense unto other gods.
6 Et mon indignation et ma fureur se sont allumées, et se sont embrasées dans les cités de Juda, et dans les places de Jérusalem; et elles ont été changées en solitude et en ruine, comme on les voit en ce jour.
Whereupon my fury and my anger were poured forth, and were enkindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem: and they are become ruins, a desert, as at this day.
7 Et maintenant, voici ce que dit le Seigneur des armées, Dieu d’Israël: Pourquoi vous, commettez-vous ce grand mal contre vos âmes, que parmi vous et du milieu de Juda périt l’homme, et la femme, et le petit enfant, et celui qui est encore à la mamelle, en sorte qu’il ne vous est laissé aucun reste?
And now thus hath said the Lord, the God of hosts, the God of Israel, Wherefore do ye commit so great an evil against your souls, so as to cut off unto you man and woman, child and suckling, out of the midst of Judah, so as not to leave you any remainder,
8 Me provoquant par les œuvres de vos mains en sacrifiant à des dieux étrangers dans la terre d’Egypte, où vous êtes entrés afin d’y habiter, et d’y périr entièrement, et d’y être en malédiction et en opprobre à toutes les nations de la terre.
By provoking me unto wrath with the works of your hands, in burning incense unto other gods in the land of Egypt, whither ye are come to sojourn there, in order to cut yourselves off, and in order that ye might become a curse and a disgrace among all the nations of the earth?
9 Est-ce que vous avez oublié les crimes de vos pères, et les crimes des rois de Juda, et les crimes de leurs femmes, et vos crimes, les crimes de vos femmes, crimes qu’elles ont commis dans la terre de Juda et dans les quartiers de Jérusalem.
Have ye forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Judah, and the wickedness of their wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives, which they had committed in the land of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem?
10 Ils ne se sont pas purifiés jusqu’à ce jour; et ils n’ont pas craint, et ils n’ont pas marché dans la loi du Seigneur, et dans mes préceptes que j’ai donnés devant vous et devant vos pères.
They are not humbled even up to this day, and they are not afraid, and they walk not in my law, nor in my statutes, that I have set before you and before your fathers.
11 C’est pourquoi voici ce que dit le Seigneur des armées, Dieu d’Israël: Voilà que moi je tournerai ma face vers vous pour votre malheur; et je perdrai entièrement tout Juda.
Therefore thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will set my face against you for evil, and to cut off all Judah.
12 Et je prendrai les restes de Juda qui ont tourné leurs faces afin d’entrer en Egypte, et d’y habiter; et ils seront tous détruits dans la terre d’Egypte; ils tomberont par le glaive et par la famine, et ils seront détruits depuis le plus petit jusqu’au plus grand; c’est par le glaive et par la famine qu’ils mourront; et ils seront en exécration, et en étonnement, et en malédiction et en opprobre.
And I will take the remnant of Judah, that have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, and they shall all come to their end, and in the land of Egypt shall they fall: by the sword [and] by the famine shall they come to their end; from the least even unto the greatest, by the sword and by the famine shall they die; and they shall become an oath, an astonishment, and a curse, and a disgrace.
13 Et je visiterai les habitants de la terre d’Egypte, comme j’ai visité Jérusalem, par le glaive, par la famine et par la peste.
And I will inflict punishment on those that dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have inflicted punishment on Jerusalem, through the sword, through the famine, and through the pestilence:
14 Et il n’y aura personne qui échappe et qui survive d’entre les restes des Juifs qui vont pour séjourner dans la terre d’Egypte, et pour retourner dans la terre de Juda vers laquelle ils élèvent leurs âmes pour y retourner et y habiter; il ne retournera que ceux qui auront fui de l’Egypte.
So that there shall be no one that escapeth or remaineth of the remnant of Judah, who are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, that they should return into the land of Judah, to which they direct [the desire of] their soul to return thither to dwell there; for they shall not return, but such as shall escape.
15 Et tous les hommes qui écoutaient Jérémie, sachant que leurs femmes sacrifiaient à des dieux étrangers, et toutes les femmes dont une grande multitude était là, et tout le peuple qui habitait dans la terre d’Egypte, à Phaturès, répondirent à Jérémie, disant:
Then did all the men who knew that their wives were burning incense unto other gods, and all the women that stood by, a great multitude, and all the people that dwelt in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answer Jeremiah, saying,
16 La parole que tu nous as dite au nom du Seigneur, nous ne l’écouterons pas venant de toi;
Respecting the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the Lord, we will not hearken unto thee.
17 Mais nous exécuterons entièrement toute parole qui sortira de notre bouche, en sacrifiant à la reine du ciel, et en lui faisant de nombreuses libations, comme nous avons fait, nous et nos pères, nos rois et nos princes, dans les villes de Juda et les places de Jérusalem; car alors nous avons été rassasiés de pain, et bien nous a été, et nous n’avons pas vu le mal.
For to a surety we will do all the word that is gone forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink-offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: when we had plenty of food, and fared well, and saw no evil.
18 Mais depuis le temps que nous avons cessé de sacrifier à la reine du ciel et de lui faire de nombreuses libations, nous manquons de tout, et nous avons été consumés par le glaive et par la famine.
But since the time we have left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink-offerings unto her, have we had a lack of every thing; and we have come to our end through the sword and through the famine.
19 Que si nous sacrifions à la reine du ciel et si nous lui faisons de nombreuses libations, est-ce sans nos époux que nous lui avons fait des gâteaux pour l’honorer, et que nous lui faisons de nombreuses libations?
And when we burnt incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink-offerings unto her, —was this without [the consent of] our husbands, that we did make cakes for her to make her image, and pour out drink-offerings unto her?
20 Et Jérémie parla à tout le peuple, contre les hommes, contre les femmes et contre toute la foule qui lui avait fait cette réponse, disant:
Then said Jeremiah unto all the people, to the men, and to the women, and to all the people who had answered him [with that] word, saying,
21 N’est-ce pas le sacrifice que vous avez offert dans les cités de Juda et sur les places de Jérusalem, vous et vos pères, vos rois et vos princes et le peuple de la terre, n’est-ce pas de ces choses, que le Seigneur s’est souvenu, et ce qui est monté sur son cœur?
Behold, it was the incense that ye burnt in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, ye, and your fathers, your kings, and your princes, and the people of the land, which the Lord remembered, and which came into his mind;
22 Et le Seigneur ne pouvait plus vous supporter à cause de la malice de vos œuvres, et à cause des abominations que vous avez commises; et votre terre a été livrée à la désolation, à la stupeur et à la malédiction, pour qu’il n’y ait point d’habitant, comme c’est en ce jour.
So that the Lord could no longer endure it, because of the evil of your doings, because of the abominations which ye had committed: therefore is your land become a ruin, and an [object of] astonishment, and a curse, without an inhabitant, as at this day.
23 Parce que vous avez sacrifié aux idoles, et que vous avez péché contre le Seigneur, et que vous n’avez point écouté la voix du Seigneur, et que vous n’avez pas marché dans sa loi, dans ses préceptes et ses témoignages, c’est pour cela que vous sont venus ces maux, comme on le voit en ce jour.
Because that ye had burnt incense, and because ye had sinned against the Lord, and had not hearkened to the voice of the Lord, and had not walked in his law, in his statutes, and in his testimonies: therefore did this evil befall you, as it is this day.
24 Jérémie dit aussi à tout le peuple et à toutes les femmes: Ecoutez la parole du Seigneur, vous tous, enfants de Juda, qui êtes dans la terre d’Egypte.
And Jeremiah said [farther] to all the people, and to all the women, Hear the word of the Lord, all Judah that are in the land of Egypt,
25 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur des armées. Dieu d’Israël: Vous et vos femmes, vous avez accompli par vos mains vos paroles, disant: Acquittons-nous des vœux que nous avons voués de sacrifier à la reine du ciel et de lui faire de nombreuses libations; vous avez accompli vos vœux et vous les avez exécutés.
Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Ye and your wives have both spoken with your mouth, and fulfilled with your hands, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink-offerings unto her: ye will fully accomplish your vows, and fully perform your vows.
26 C’est pourquoi écoutez la parole du Seigneur, vous tous, enfants de Juda, qui habitez dans la terre d’Egypte: Voilà que moi j’ai juré par mon grand nom, dit le Seigneur, que mon nom ne sera jamais pins nommé dans toute la terre d’Egypte par la bouche d’aucun homme Juif, disant: Le Seigneur Dieu vit!
Therefore hear ye the word of the Lord, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt, Behold, I have sworn by my great name, saith the Lord, that my name shall no more be called by the mouth of any man of Judah, saying, “As the Lord Eternal liveth,” in all the land of Egypt.
27 Voilà que moi je veillerai sur eux pour leur malheur, et non pour leur bien; et tous les hommes de Juda qui sont dans la terre d’Egypte seront détruits par le glaive et par la famine, jusqu’à ce qu’ils soient entièrement détruits.
Behold, I will watch over them for evil, and not for good: and all the men of Judah that are in the land of Egypt shall come to their end through the sword and through the famine, until they be destroyed.
28 Et ceux qui auront fui le glaive reviendront de la terre d’Egypte dans la terre de Juda, hommes en petit nombre; et tous les restes de ceux de Juda qui sont entrés en Egypte pour y habiter sauront de qui la parole sera accomplie, la mienne ou la leur.
Yet some that escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, but few in number; and all the remnant of Judah, that are come into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall know whose words shall stand firm, mine, or theirs.
29 Et voici pour vous, dit le Seigneur, le signe que moi je vous visiterai en ce lieu, afin que vous sachiez que véritablement s’accompliront mes paroles contre vous pour votre malheur.
And this shall be unto you the sign, saith the Lord, that I will inflict punishment on you in this place, in order that ye may know that my words shall surely stand firm against you for evil:
30 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Voilà que moi je livrerai Pharaon Ephrée, roi d’Egypte, à la main de ses ennemis, et à la main de ceux qui cherchent son âme, comme j’ai livré Sédécias, roi de Juda, à la main de Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, son ennemi, et qui cherchait son âme.
Thus hath said the Lord, Behold, I will give Pharaoh-chophra' the king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of those that seek his life, as I gave Zedekiah the king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, his enemy, and who had sought his life.
