Jérémie 37
1 Et le roi Sédécias, fils de Josias, régna en la place de Jéchonias, fils de Joakim, Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, l’ayant établi roi dans la terre de Juda.
Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned as king, instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.
2 Et il n’obéit pas, lui, ni ses serviteurs, ni tout le peuple de la terre aux paroles du Seigneur qu’il avait dites par l’entremise de Jérémie, le prophète.
But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, listened to the words of the LORD, which he spoke by the prophet Jeremiah.
3 Et le roi Sédécias envoya Juchal, fils de Sélémias, et Sophonias, le prêtre, fils de Maasias, vers Jérémie, le prophète, disant: Priez pour nous le Seigneur notre Dieu.
Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the cohen, to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, "Pray now to the LORD our God for us."
4 Or, Jérémie se promenait librement au milieu du peuple; car on ne l’avait pas encore mis dans la garde de la prison. Enfin l’armée de Pharaon sortit de l’Egypte; et les Chaldéens qui assiégeaient Jérusalem, entendant cette nouvelle, s’éloignèrent de Jérusalem.
Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people; for they had not put him into prison.
5 Et la parole du Seigneur fut adressée à Jérémie, le prophète, disant:
Pharaoh's army had come forth out of Egypt; and when the Chaldeans who were besieging Jerusalem heard news of them, they broke up from Jerusalem.
6 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, Dieu d’Israël: Ainsi vous direz au roi de Juda, qui vous a envoyés pour me consulter: Voilà que l’armée de Pharaon, qui est sortie à votre secours, retournera dans sa terre en Egypte;
Then came the word of the LORD to the prophet Jeremiah, saying,
7 Et les Chaldéens reviendront, et ils combattront contre cette cité; et ils la prendront et ils y mettront le feu.
"Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, 'You shall tell the king of Judah, who sent you to me to inquire of me: "Look, Pharaoh's army, which has come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.
8 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Ne trompez pas vos âmes, disant: Les Chaldéens s’en iront et se retireront de nous; parce qu’ils ne s’en iront pas.
The Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city; and they shall take it, and burn it with fire."
9 Mais quand même vous auriez battu toute l’armée des Chaldéens qui combattent contre vous, et qu’il en serait resté seulement quelques blessés, ils sortiraient chacun de leur tente, et mettraient à feu cette cité.
Thus says the LORD, "Do not deceive yourselves, saying, 'The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us'; for they shall not depart.
10 Ainsi lorsque l’armée des Chaldéens se fut retirée de Jérusalem, à cause de l’armée de Pharaon,
For though you had struck the whole army of the Chaldeans who fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yes would they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire."'"
11 Jérémie sortit de Jérusalem, afin d’aller dans la terre de Benjamin, et d’y partager son bien en présence des citoyens.
It happened that, when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh's army,
12 Et lorsqu’il fut parvenu à la porte de Benjamin, il y avait là un garde qui veillait à la porte à son tour, du nom de Jérias, fils de Sélémias, fils d’Hananias; et il arrêta Jérémie, le prophète, disant: Tu fuis vers les Chaldéens.
then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to receive his portion there, in the midst of the people.
13 Et Jérémie répondit: Cela est faux, je ne fuis point vers les Chaldéens. Et Jérias ne l’écouta pas; mais il saisit Jérémie, et l’amena devant les princes.
When he was in the Benjamin Gate, a captain of the guard was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he laid hold on Jeremiah the prophet, saying, "You are falling away to the Chaldeans."
14 À cause de cela les princes, irrités contre Jérémie, le firent battre et l’envoyèrent en la prison qui était dans la maison de Jonathan, le scribe; car c’est lui qui était préposé sur la prison.
Then Jeremiah said, "It is false; I am not falling away to the Chaldeans." But he did not listen to him; so Irijah laid hold on Jeremiah, and brought him to the officials.
15 C’est pourquoi Jérémie entra dans la maison de la fosse et dans le cachot des esclaves; et Jérémie y demeura bien des jours.
And the officials were angry with Jeremiah, and struck him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe; for they had made that the prison.
16 Or le roi Sédécias l’envoya retirer, et il l’interrogea en secret dans sa maison, et dit: Crois-tu qu’il y a quelque parole venant du Seigneur? Et Jérémie: Il y en a; et il ajouta: Vous serez livré aux mains du roi de Babylone.
When Jeremiah had come into the dungeon house, and into the cells, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;
17 Et Jérémie dit au roi Sédécias: En quoi ai-je péché contre vous, contre vos serviteurs et contre votre peuple, pour que vous m’ayez envoyé dans la maison de la prison?
Then Zedekiah the king sent, and fetched him: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, "Is there any word from the LORD?" Jeremiah said, "There is." He said also, "You shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon."
18 Où sont vos prophètes qui vous prophétisaient, et qui disaient: Le roi de Babylone ne viendra pas contre vous et contre cette terre?
Moreover Jeremiah said to king Zedekiah, "Wherein have I sinned against you, or against your servants, or against this people, that you have put me in prison?
19 Maintenant donc, écoutez, je vous conjure, mon seigneur roi; que ma prière instante soit puissante en votre présence; et ne me renvoyez pas dans la maison de Jonathan, le scribe, de peur que je n’y meure.
Where now are your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?
20 Le roi Sédécias ordonna donc que Jérémie fût mis dans le vestibule de la prison, et qu’on lui donnât tous les jours une miche de pain, outre les mets ordinaires, jusqu’à ce que tout le pain de la cité fût consumé; et Jérémie demeura dans le vestibule de la prison.
Now please hear, my lord the king: please let my petition be presented before you, that you not cause me to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there."
Then Zedekiah the king commanded, and they committed Jeremiah into the court of the guard; and they gave him daily a loaf of bread out of the bakers' street, until all the bread in the city was spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.
