Jérémie 34
1 Parole qui fut adressée à Jérémie par le Seigneur, lorsque Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, et toute son armée, et tous les royaumes de la terre qui étaient sous le pouvoir de sa main, et tous les peuples combattaient contre Jérusalem et contre toutes ses villes, disant:
The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his army, and all the kingdoms of the earth of his dominion, and all the people, fought against Jerusalem, and against all the cities thereof, saying,
2 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, Dieu d’Israël: Va, et parle à Sédécias, roi de Juda; et tu lui diras: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Voilà que moi, je livrerai cette cité aux mains du roi de Babylone, et il y mettra le feu.
Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel; Go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah, and tell him, Thus said the LORD; Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire:
3 Et toi tu n’échapperas pas à sa main, mais tu seras pris très certainement, et tu seras livré à sa main: et tes yeux verront les yeux du roi de Babylone, et sa bouche parlera à ta bouche, et tu entreras à Babylone.
And you shall not escape out of his hand, but shall surely be taken, and delivered into his hand; and your eyes shall behold the eyes of the king of Babylon, and he shall speak with you mouth to mouth, and you shall go to Babylon.
4 Cependant écoute la parole du Seigneur, Sédécias, roi de Juda; voici ce que te dit le Seigneur: Tu ne mourras point par le glaive.
Yet hear the word of the LORD, O Zedekiah king of Judah; Thus says the LORD of you, You shall not die by the sword:
5 Mais tu mourras en paix; et comme on a brûlé les corps de tes pères, des rois précédents qui ont été avant toi, ainsi on te brûlera; et malheur, ô prince! criera-t-on sur toi; parce que c’est moi qui ai prononcé cette parole, dit le Seigneur.
But you shall die in peace: and with the burnings of your fathers, the former kings which were before you, so shall they burn odors for you; and they will lament you, saying, Ah lord! for I have pronounced the word, says the LORD.
6 Et Jérémie, le prophète, dit toutes ces paroles à Sédécias, roi de Juda, dans Jérusalem.
Then Jeremiah the prophet spoke all these words to Zedekiah king of Judah in Jerusalem,
7 Et l’armée du roi de Babylone combattait contre Jérusalem, et contre toutes les cités de Juda qui étaient restées, contre Lachis et contre Azécha; car c’étaient les villes fortifiées, qui étaient restées des cités de Juda.
When the king of Babylon’s army fought against Jerusalem, and against all the cities of Judah that were left, against Lachish, and against Azekah: for these defended cities remained of the cities of Judah.
8 Parole qui fut adressée à Jérémie par le Seigneur, après que le roi Sédécias eut fait un pacte avec tout le peuple dans Jérusalem, en publiant
This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after that the king Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people which were at Jerusalem, to proclaim liberty to them;
9 Que chacun renvoyât libre son serviteur et chacun sa servante, Hébreu et Hébreue, et qu’ils n’exerçassent nullement leur domination sur eux, c’est-à-dire sur un Juif et leur frère.
That every man should let his manservant, and every man his maidservant, being an Hebrew or an Hebrewess, go free; that none should serve himself of them, to wit, of a Jew his brother.
10 Ils entendirent donc tous les princes et tout le peuple, qui avaient fait pacte que chacun renverrait libre son serviteur et chacun sa servante, et qu’ils n’exerceraient plus de domination sur eux; ils écoutèrent donc et les renvoyèrent.
Now when all the princes, and all the people, which had entered into the covenant, heard that every one should let his manservant, and every one his maidservant, go free, that none should serve themselves of them any more, then they obeyed, and let them go.
11 Mais ils changèrent ensuite, et ils reprirent leurs serviteurs et leurs servantes qu’ils avaient renvoyés libres, et les soumirent à la condition de serviteurs et de servantes.
But afterward they turned, and caused the servants and the handmaids, whom they had let go free, to return, and brought them into subjection for servants and for handmaids.
12 Et la parole du Seigneur fut adressée à Jérémie, disant:
Therefore the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
13 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, Dieu d’Israël: Moi, j’ai fait alliance avec vos pères au jour où je les ai retirés de la terre d’Egypte, de la maison de servitude, disant:
Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel; I made a covenant with your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slaves, saying,
14 Lorsque sept ans seront accomplis, que chacun renvoie son frère Hébreu, qui lui a été vendu; il te servira six ans, puis tu le renverras d’auprès de toi libre; et vos pères ne m’ont point écouté et ils n’ont pas incliné leur oreille.
At the end of seven years let you go every man his brother an Hebrew, which has been sold to you; and when he has served you six years, you shall let him go free from you: but your fathers listened not to me, neither inclined their ear.
15 Et vous, vous êtes tournés vers moi aujourd’hui; vous avez fait ce qui était juste à mes yeux, en publiant la liberté chacun pour son ami; et vous avez fait ce pacte en ma présence, dans la maison dans laquelle mon nom a été invoqué sur elle.
And you were now turned, and had done right in my sight, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbor; and you had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name:
16 Et vous êtes revenus sur ce que vous aviez fait, et vous avez profané mon nom; et vous avez repris chacun votre esclave et chacun votre servante, que vous aviez renvoyés afin qu’ils fussent libres, et en leur propre pouvoir, et vous les avez réduits à vous être serviteurs et servantes.
But you turned and polluted my name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his handmaid, whom he had set at liberty at their pleasure, to return, and brought them into subjection, to be to you for servants and for handmaids.
17 À cause de cela voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Vous, vous ne m’avez pas écouté pour annoncer la liberté chacun à votre frère et chacun à votre ami; voici que moi, dit le Seigneur, je vous annonce la liberté d’être abandonnés au glaive, à la peste et à la famine; je vous livrerai à la vexation dans tous les royaumes de la terre.
Therefore thus says the LORD; You have not listened to me, in proclaiming liberty, every one to his brother, and every man to his neighbor: behold, I proclaim a liberty for you, said the LORD, to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine; and I will make you to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.
18 Et je traiterai les hommes qui violent mon alliance, et qui n’ont pas observé les paroles du pacte auxquelles ils ont consenti en ma présence, comme le veau qu’ils ont coupé en deux, et entre les parties duquel ils ont passé;
And I will give the men that have transgressed my covenant, which have not performed the words of the covenant which they had made before me, when they cut the calf in two, and passed between the parts thereof,
19 Ces hommes sont les princes de Juda, les princes de Jérusalem, les eunuques et les prêtres, et tout le peuple de cette terre, qui ont passé entre les parties du veau;
The princes of Judah, and the princes of Jerusalem, the eunuchs, and the priests, and all the people of the land, which passed between the parts of the calf;
20 Je les livrerai donc aux mains de leurs ennemis, aux mains de ceux qui cherchent leur âme; et leurs corps morts seront en pâture aux volatiles du ciel et aux bêtes de la terre.
I will even give them into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of them that seek their life: and their dead bodies shall be for meat to the fowls of the heaven, and to the beasts of the earth.
21 Et Sédécias, roi de Juda, et ses princes, je les livrerai aux mains de leurs ennemis, et aux mains de ceux qui cherchent leurs âmes, et aux mains des armées du roi de Babylone, lesquelles se sont retirées de vous.
And Zedekiah king of Judah and his princes will I give into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of them that seek their life, and into the hand of the king of Babylon’s army, which are gone up from you.
22 Voilà que moi j’ordonne, dit le Seigneur, je les ramènerai dans cette cité, et ils combattront contre elle, et ils la prendront, et ils y mettront le feu; et les cités de Juda, j’en ferai une solitude pour qu’il n’y ait point d’habitant.
Behold, I will command, says the LORD, and cause them to return to this city; and they shall fight against it, and take it, and burn it with fire: and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation without an inhabitant.
