Jérémie 3
1 On dit ordinairement: Si un homme renvoie sa femme, et que, se séparant de lui, elle épouse un autre homme, la reprendra-t-il ensuite? est-ce qu’elle ne sera pas impure et souillée, cette femme? mais toi tu as forniqué avec beaucoup d’amants; cependant, reviens à moi, dit le Seigneur, et moi je te recevrai.
They say, If a man shall put away his wife, and she shall go from him, and become another man's, shall he return to her again? shall not that land be greatly polluted? but thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the LORD.
2 Lève les yeux en haut, et vois où tu ne te sois pas prostituée; tu étais assise sur les chemins, les attendant comme un voleur attend les passants dans la solitude; et tu as souillé la terre par tes fornications et par tes méchancetés.
Lift up thy eyes to the high places, and see where thou hast not been lain with. In the ways hast thou sat for them, as the Arabian in the wilderness; and thou hast polluted the land with thy acts of lewdness, and with thy wickedness.
3 Ce qui a été cause que les gouttes des pluies ont été retenues, et qu’il n’y a pas eu de pluie de l’arrière-saison; le front d’une femme de mauvaise vie est devenu le tien; tu n’as pas voulu rougir.
Therefore the showers have been withheld, and there hath been no latter rain? and thou hadst a harlot's forehead, thou refusedst to be ashamed.
4 Ainsi au moins maintenant, appelle-moi; et dis: Mon père et le guide de ma virginité, c’est vous.
Wilt thou not from this time cry to me, My father, thou [art] the guide of my youth?
5 Est-ce que vous serez irrité pour toujours, ou persévérerez-vous jusqu’à la fin? Voilà que tu as parlé, et tu as fait le mal, et tu as prévalu.
Will he retain [his anger] for ever? will he keep [it] to the end? Behold, thou hast spoken and done evil things as thou couldst.
6 Et le Seigneur me dit dans les jours du roi Josias: Est-ce que tu n’as pas vu ce qu’a fait la rebelle Israël? elle s’en est allée sur toute montagne, et sous tout arbre touffu, et là, elle a forniqué.
The LORD said also to me in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou seen [that] which backsliding Israel hath done? she hath gone up upon every high mountain, and under every green tree, and there hath played the harlot.
7 Et j’ai dit, lorsqu’elle a eu fait toutes ces choses: Reviens à moi, et elle n’est pas revenue. Et sa sœur, la prévaricatrice Juda, a vu
And I said after she had done all these [things], Turn thou to me. But she returned not. And her treacherous sister Judah saw [it].
8 Que parce que la rebelle Israël avait été adultère, je l’avais renvoyée, et que je lui avais donné un acte de répudiation; elle n’a pas craint, la prévaricatrice Juda, sa sœur, mais elle s’en est allée, et elle a forniqué aussi elle-même.
And I saw, when for all the causes by which backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.
9 Et par la facilité de sa fornication elle a souillé la terre, et elle a commis l’adultère avec la pierre et le bois.
And it came to pass through the lightness of her lewdness, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stones and with stocks.
10 Et au milieu de toutes ces choses, la prévaricatrice Juda, sa sœur, n’est pas revenue à moi de tout son cœur, mais avec mensonge, dit le Seigneur.
And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah hath not turned to me with her whole heart, but feignedly, saith the LORD.
11 Et le Seigneur me dit: Elle a justifié son âme, la rebelle Israël, en comparaison de la prévaricatrice Juda.
And the LORD said to me, The backsliding Israel hath justified herself more than treacherous Judah.
12 Va, et crie ces paroles contre l’aquilon, et tu diras: Reviens, rebelle Israël, dit le Seigneur, et je ne détournerai pas ma face de vous, parce que moi, je suis saint, dit le Seigneur, et je ne serai pas irrité pour toujours.
Go and proclaim these words towards the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; [and] I will not cause my anger to fall upon you: for I [am] merciful, saith the LORD, [and] I will not keep [anger] for ever.
13 Mais reconnais ton iniquité, parce que tu as prévariqué contre le Seigneur ton Dieu; que tu as dispersé tes voies pour des étrangers, sous tout arbre touffu, et que tu n’as pas écouté ma voix, dit le Seigneur.
Only acknowledge thy iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the LORD thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith the LORD.
14 Convertissez-vous, mes fils, en revenant vers moi, dit le Seigneur; parce que je suis votre époux; je vous prendrai, un d’une cité, deux d’une famille, et je vous introduirai dans Sion.
Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married to you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:
15 Et je vous donnerai des pasteurs selon mon cœur, et ils vous nourriront de science et de doctrine.
And I will give you pastors according to my heart, who shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.
16 Et lorsque vous vous serez multipliés, et que vous aurez crû sur la terre en ces jours-là, dit le Seigneur, on ne dira plus: L’arche d’alliance du Seigneur; elle ne montera pas sur le cœur, on ne se la rappellera pas, elle ne sera pas visitée, et on ne la refera plus.
And it shall come to pass, when ye shall be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit [it]; neither shall [that] be done any more.
17 En ce temps-là, on appellera Jérusalem le trône du Seigneur, et toutes les nations s’y rassembleront au nom du Seigneur, dans Jérusalem, et elles ne courront pas après la perversité de leur cœur très mauvais.
At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; and all the nations shall be gathered to it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem; neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart.
18 En ces jours-là, la maison de Juda ira vers la maison d’Israël, et elles viendront ensemble de la terre de l’aquilon dans la terre que j’ai donnée à vos pères.
In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together from the land of the north to the land that I have given for an inheritance to your fathers.
19 Pour moi, j’ai dit: Comment te placerai-je parmi mes fils? et te donnerai-je une terre désirable, le bel héritage des armées des nations? Et j’ai dit: Tu m’appelleras ton père, et tu ne cesseras pas de marcher après moi.
But I said, How shall I put thee among the children, and give thee a pleasant land, a goodly heritage of the hosts of nations? and I said, Thou shalt call me, My father; and shalt not turn away from me.
20 Mais comme si une femme méprisait celui qui l’aime, ainsi m’a méprisé la maison d’Israël, dit le Seigneur,
Surely [as] a wife treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, saith the LORD.
21 Une voix sur les chemins a été entendue, le pleur et le hurlement des fils d’Israël; parce qu’ils ont rendu inique leur voie, ils ont oublié le Seigneur leur Dieu.
A voice was heard upon the high places, weeping [and] supplications of the children of Israel: for they have perverted their way, [and] they have forgotten the LORD their God.
22 Convertissez-vous, mes fils, en revenant vers moi, et je réparerai vos défections. Nous voici, nous venons à vous; car c’est vous qui êtes le Seigneur notre Dieu.
Return, ye backsliding children, [and] I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we come to thee; for thou [art] the LORD our God.
23 Vraiment menteuses étaient les collines et la multitude des montagnes; vraiment, c’est dans le Seigneur notre Dieu qu’est le salut d’Israël.
Truly in vain [is salvation hoped for] from the hills, [and from] the multitude of mountains: truly in the LORD our God [is] the salvation of Israel.
24 Dès notre jeunesse la confusion a dévoré le travail de nos pères, leurs troupeaux de menu bétail, et leurs troupeaux de gros bétail, leurs fils et leurs filles.
For shame hath devoured the labor of our fathers from our youth; their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.
25 Nous dormirons dans notre confusion, et notre ignominie nous couvrira, parce que contre le Seigneur notre Dieu nous avons péché, nous et nos pères, depuis notre jeunesse jusqu’à ce jour, et que nous n’avons pas entendu la voix du Seigneur notre Dieu.
We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covereth us: for we have sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even to this day, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God.
