Jérémie 13
1 Voici ce que le Seigneur me dit: Va, et procure-toi une ceinture de lin, et tu la mettras sur tes reins, et tu ne la laveras pas dans l’eau.
Thus said the Lord unto me, Go and buy thee a linen girdle, and put it around thy loins, and lay it not in water.
2 Et je me procurai cette ceinture, selon la parole du Seigneur, et je la mis autour de mes reins.
So I bought the girdle, according to the word of the Lord, and put it around my loins.
3 Et la parole du Seigneur me fut adressée une seconde fois, disant:
And the word of the Lord came unto me the second time, saying,
4 Prends la ceinture que tu t’es procurée, qui est autour de tes reins; et te levant, va vers l’Euphrate, et cache-la dans le trou d’un rocher.
Take the girdle that thou hast bought, which is around thy loins; and arise, go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a cleft of the rock.
5 Et j’allai, et je la cachai près de l’Euphrate, comme le Seigneur m’avait ordonné.
So I went, and hid it by the Euphrates, as the Lord has commanded me.
6 Et il arriva, après plusieurs jours, que le Seigneur me dit: Lève-toi, va vers l’Euphrate, et tires-en la ceinture que je t’ai ordonné d’y cacher.
And it came to pass at the end of many days, that the Lord said unto me, Arise, go to the Euphrates, and take from there the girdle, which I commanded thee to hide there.
7 Et j’allai vers l’Euphrate, et je creusai, et je tirai la ceinture du lieu où je l’avais cachée; et voilà que la ceinture était pourrie, de telle sorte qu’elle n’était propre à aucun usage.
And I went to the Euphrates, and dug, and took the girdle from the place where I had hidden it: and, behold, the girdle was spoiled, it was useful for nothing.
8 Et la parole du Seigneur me fut adressée, disant:
Then came the word of the Lord unto me, saying,
9 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Ainsi je ferai pourrir l’orgueil de Juda et l’orgueil excessif de Jérusalem;
Thus hath said the Lord, After this manner will I destroy the pride of Judah, and the pride of Jerusalem, which is great.
10 Ce peuple très méchant, qui ne veut pas entendre mes paroles et qui marche dans la dépravation de son cœur, qui a couru après des dieux étrangers, afin de les servir et de les adorer; et il sera comme cette ceinture, qui n’est propre à aucun usage.
And this bad people, who refuse to hearken to my words, who walk in the stubbornness of their heart, and have followed other gods, to serve them, and to bow down to them, shall even be as this girdle which is useful for nothing.
11 Car comme la ceinture s’attache aux reins d’un homme, ainsi je me suis uni étroitement toute la maison d’Israël et toute la maison de Juda, dit le Seigneur, afin qu’elles fussent mon peuple, et mon nom, et ma louange, et ma gloire, et elles ne m’ont pas écouté.
For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so had I caused to cleave unto me all the house of Israel and all the house of Judah, saith the Lord, —to become unto me a people, and [to be] for a name, and for praise, and for honor; but they would not hear.
12 Tu leur diras donc cette parole: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, Dieu d’Israël: Toute petite bouteille sera remplie de vin. Et ils te diront: Est-ce que nous ignorons que toute petite bouteille sera remplie de vin?
Therefore shalt thou say unto them this word, Thus hath said the Lord the God of Israel, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and when they will say unto thee, Do we not know full well that every bottle shall be filled with wine?
13 Et tu leur diras: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Voilà que moi je remplirai d’ivresse tous les habitants de cette terre, et les rois de la race de David qui sont assis sur le trône, et les prêtres et les prophètes, et tous les habitants de Jérusalem;
Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus hath said the Lord, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit after David upon his throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.
14 Et je les disperserai en séparant un homme de son frère; et les pères et les fils pareillement, dit le Seigneur; je n’épargnerai pas, et je n’accorderai rien, je n’aurai pas assez de pitié pour ne pas les perdre entièrement.
And I will dash them one against the other, even the fathers and the sons together, saith the Lord: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, so as not to destroy them.
15 Ecoutez et prêtez l’oreille. Ne vous enorgueillissez point; parce que c’est le Seigneur qui a parlé.
Hear ye, and bend your ear: be not proud; for the Lord hath spoken.
16 Rendez gloire au Seigneur votre Dieu, avant que les ténèbres viennent, et avant que vos pieds heurtent contre des montagnes obscures; vous attendrez la lumière, et le Seigneur la changera en ombre de mort et en une profonde obscurité.
Give unto the Lord your God glory, before he cause darkness, and before your feet strike upon the mountains of twilight, and [where], while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and change it into gross darkness.
17 Si vous n’écoutez pas cela, mon âme pleurera en secret à cause de votre orgueil: mon œil pleurant pleurera et fera couler des larmes, parce que le troupeau du Seigneur a été pris.
But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places because of [your] pride; and my eye shall weep sorely, and run down with tears, because the flock of the Lord is driven away captive.
18 Dis au roi et à la souveraine: Humiliez-vous, asseyez-vous, parce que de votre tête est tombée la couronne de votre gloire.
Say unto the king and to the queen-mother, Sit down very lowly; for sunk down are your head-attires, the crown of your ornament.
19 Les villes du midi sont fermées, et il n’y a personne qui les ouvre; tout Juda a été transféré par une transmigration entière.
The cities of the south are shut up, and there is no one to open them: Judah is carried away into exile altogether, it is carried into exile completely.
20 Levez vos yeux, et voyez, vous qui venez de l’aquilon; où est le troupeau qui t’a été donné, ton troupeau glorieux?
Lift up your eyes, and see those that are coming from the north: where is the flock that was given thee, thy splendid flock?
21 Que diras-tu lorsque Dieu te visitera? c’est toi qui as enseigné tes ennemis contre toi-même, et qui les a instruits en exposant ta tête: est-ce que les douleurs ne te saisiront pas comme une femme en travail?
What wilt thou say when he will punish thee? since thou hast accustomed them to be over thee captains, and chiefs? shall not pangs seize upon thee, as on a woman in travail?
22 Que si tu dis en ton cœur: Pourquoi sont venus sur moi ces maux? C’est à cause de la multitude de tes iniquités qu’a été mise à découvert ta honte et qu’ont été souillées les plantes de tes pieds.
And if thou wilt say in thy heart, Wherefore come these things upon me? For the greatness of thy iniquity are thy skirts laid open, thy heels are made bare violently.
23 Si un Ethiopien peut changer sa peau, ou un léopard ses couleurs variées, vous aussi, vous pourrez faire le bien, quoique vous ayez appris le mal.
Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? [then] may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.
24 Je les disperserai comme la paille qui par le vent est emportée dans le désert.
Therefore will I scatter them as the stubble that passeth away before the wind of the wilderness.
25 C’est là ton sort et la part que je t’ai mesurée, dit le Seigneur, parce que tu m’as oublié, et que tu t’es confiée dans le mensonge;
This is thy lot, the portion of thy measures from me, saith the Lord; because thou hast forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood.
26 De là vient que moi aussi j’ai exposé ta nudité, et qu’a paru ton ignominie,
Therefore do I also strip up thy skirts over thy face, that thy shame may be seen.
27 Tes adultères, tes hennissements et le crime de ta fornication; sur les collines, dans les campagnes, j’ai vu tes abominations. Malheur à toi, Jérusalem! tu ne te purifieras pas en marchant à ma suite; jusques à quand encore?
Thy adulteries and thy loud shoutings, the lewdness of thy incest, thy abominations on the hills in the fields have I seen. Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! thou wilt not be made clean after ever so long a time.
