Jacques 1
1 Jacques, serviteur de Dieu et de Notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, aux douze tribus qui sont dans la dispersion, salut.
James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes who are scattered abroad, greeting.
2 Considérez comme sujet d’une joie complète, mes frères, lorsque vous tombez en diverses tentations,
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into various temptations;
3 Sachant que l’épreuve de votre foi produit la patience;
Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
4 Or la patience rend les œuvres parfaites, de manière que vous soyez parfaits, accomplis, et ne manquant de rien.
But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
5 Que celui à qui manque la sagesse, la demande à Dieu qui donne à tous en abondance, et ne reproche rien, et elle lui sera donnée.
If any of you lacketh wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given to him.
6 Mais qu’il demande avec foi, sans aucun doute; car celui qui doute est semblable au flot de la mer, qui est agité et poussé çà et là par le vent.
But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7 Que cet homme donc ne s’imagine pas recevoir quelque chose de Dieu.
For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing from the Lord.
8 L’homme double d’esprit est inconstant dans toutes ses voies.
A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
9 Que celui de nos frères qui est dans l’abaissement se réjouisse de son élévation,
Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:
10 Et le riche de son abaissement, parce qu’il passera comme la fleur de l’herbe,
But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.
11 Car le soleil s’est levé avec ses ardeurs, et il a desséché l’herbe, et sa fleur est tombée, et le charme de sa beauté s’est évanoui: ainsi le riche, lui aussi, se flétrira dans ses voies.
For the sun hath no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and its flower falleth, and the grace of its fashion perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.
12 Bienheureux l’homme qui souffre patiemment la tentation, parce qu’après avoir été éprouvé, il recevra la couronne de vie, que Dieu a promise à ceux qui l’aiment.
Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
13 Que nul, lorsqu’il est tenté, ne dise que c’est Dieu qui le tente; car Dieu ne tente point pour le mal, et il ne tente lui-même personne;
Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted by God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
14 Mais chacun est tenté par sa concupiscence, qui l’entraîne et le séduit.
But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed.
15 Puis la concupiscence lorsqu’elle a conçu, enfante le péché, et le péché, quand il a été consommé, engendre la mort.
Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
16 Ne vous y trompez donc point, mes frères bien-aimés.
Do not err, my beloved brethren.
17 Toute grâce excellente et tout don parfait vient d’en haut et descend du père des lumières, en qui il n’y a ni changement, ni ombre de vicissitudes.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
18 Car c’est volontairement qu’il nous a engendrés par la parole de vérité, afin que nous fussions comme les prémices de ses créatures.
Of his own will he hath begotten us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
19 Vous le savez, mes frères bien-aimés. Ainsi, que tout homme soit prompt à écouter, lent à parler, et lent à la colère;
Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
20 Car la colère de l’homme n’opère point la justice de Dieu.
For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
21 C’est pourquoi, rejetant toute impureté et tout excès de malice, recevez avec docilité la parole entée en vous, qui peut sauver vos âmes.
Therefore put away all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
22 Mais pratiquez cette parole, et ne l’écoutez pas seulement, vous trompant vous-mêmes.
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 Car si quelqu’un écoute la parole et ne la pratique pas, celui-là sera comparé à un homme qui regarde dans un miroir le visage qu’il a reçu en naissant.
For if any is a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like a man beholding his natural face in a mirror:
24 Il s’est regardé, et s’en est allé, et aussitôt il a oublié quel il était.
For he beholdeth himself, and goeth away, and immediately forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25 Mais celui qui examine à fond la loi parfaite, la loi de la liberté, et qui s’y attache, n’écoutant pas pour oublier, mais pour agir, celui-là sera bienheureux dans ce qu’il fera.
But he who looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth in it, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
26 Si quelqu’un croit être religieux, et ne met pas un frein à sa langue, mais séduit son propre cœur, sa religion est vaine.
If any man among you seemeth to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
27 La religion pure et sans tache devant Dieu le Père, la voici: Visiter les orphelins et les veuves dans leurs afflictions, et se conserver sans être souillé par ce siècle.
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
