Isaïe 8
1 Et le Seigneur me dit: Prends un grand livre et écris-y en style d’homme: Enlève promptement les dépouilles, prends vite le butin.
And the Lord said to me: Take thee a great book, and write in it with a man’s pen. Take sway the spoils with speed, quickly take the prey.
2 Et je pris des témoins fidèles, Urie le prêtre et Zacharie fils de Barachie;
And I took unto me faithful witnesses, Urias the priest, and Zacharias the son of Barachias.
3 Et je m’approchai de la prophétesse, et elle conçut et enfanta un fils. Et le Seigneur me dit: Appelle son nom: Hâte-toi d’enlever les dépouilles: Empresse-toi de prendre le butin.
And I went to the prophetess, and she conceived, and bore a son. And the Lord said to me: Call his name, Hasten to take away the spoils: Make haste to take away the prey.
4 Parce qu’avant que l’enfant sache nommer son père et sa mère, la puissance de Damas sera enlevée, ainsi que les dépouilles de Samarie devant le roi des Assyriens.
For before the child know to call his father and his mother, the strength of Damascus, and the spoils of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of the Assyrians.
5 Et le Seigneur me parla encore, disant:
And the Lord spoke to me again, saying:
6 Parce que ce peuple a rejeté les eaux de Siloë, qui coulent en silence, et qu’il a pris plutôt Rasin, et le fils de Romélie;
Forasmuch as this people hath cast away the waters of Siloe, that go with silence, and hath rather taken Basin, and the son of Romelia:
7 À cause de cela, voici que le Seigneur fera venir sur eux les eaux violentes et abondantes du fleuve, le roi des Assyriens et toute sa gloire; et il s’élèvera au-dessus de toutes ses rives, et il coulera par dessus tous ses bords;
Therefore behold the Lord will bring upon them the waters of the river strong and many, the king of the Assyrians, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all his channels, and shall overflow all his banks,
8 Et il ira à travers Juda, l’inondant et le traversant jusqu’au cou. Et il étendra ses ailes, remplissant l’étendue de ta terre, ô Emmanuel.
And shall pass through Juda, overflowing, and going over shall reach even to the neck. And the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Emmanuel.
9 Rassemblez-vous, peuples, et soyez vaincus; et écoutez, vous toutes, terres lointaines, fortifiez-vous et soyez vaincues, ceignez-vous pour le combat, soyez vaincues;
Gather yourselves together, O ye people, and be overcome, and give ear, all ye lands afar off: strengthen yourselves, and be overcome, gird yourselves, and be overcome.
10 Formez des desseins, et ils seront dissipés; dites une parole, et elle ne sera pas exécutée, parce qu’avec nous est Dieu.
Take counsel together, and it shall be defeated: speak a word, and it shall not be done: because God is with us.
11 Car voici ce que m’a dit le Seigneur, quand, me tenant par une main puissante, il m’a instruit, afin que je n’allasse point dans la voie de ce peuple disant:
For thus saith the Lord to me: As he hath taught me, with a strong arm, that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying:
12 Ne dites pas: Conjuration; car tout ce que dit ce peuple est conjuration; ne craignez pas ce qu’il craint et ne vous effrayez point.
Say ye not: A conspiracy: for all that this people speaketh, is a conspiracy: neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid.
13 Sanctifiez le Seigneur des armées; qu’il soit lui-même votre frayeur, et lui-même votre terreur.
Sanctify the Lord of hosts himself: and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.
14 Et il vous sera en sanctification. Mais il sera en pierre d’achoppement et en pierre de scandale aux deux maisons d’Israël; en lacs et en ruine aux habitants de Jérusalem.
And he shall be a sanctification to you. But for a stone or stumbling, and for a rock of offence to the two houses of Israel, for a snare and a ruin to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
15 Et le plus grand nombre d’entre eux se heurteront, et tomberont, et seront brisés, et ils s’embarrasseront dans des filets et ils seront pris.
And very many of them shall stumble and fall, and shall be broken in pieces, and shall be snared, and taken.
16 Lie le témoignage, scelle la loi pour mes disciples,
Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.
17 Et j’attendrai le Seigneur qui cache sa face à la maison de Jacob, et je l’attendrai.
And I will wait for the Lord, who hath hid his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.
18 Me voici, moi et les enfants que le Seigneur m’a donnés pour être un signe et un présage dans Israël, par l’ordre du Seigneur des armées qui habite sur la montagne de Sion.
Behold I and my children, whom the Lord hath given me for a sign, and for a wonder in Israel from the Lord of hosts, who dwelleth in mount Sion.
19 Et lorsqu’on vous dira: Consultez les pythoniens et les devins qui bruissent dans leurs enchantements, répondez: Est-ce qu’un peuple ne consultera pas son Dieu? Consulte-t-on les morts pour les vivants?
And when they shall say to you: Seek of pythons, and of diviners, who mutter in their enchantments: should not the people seek of their God, for the living of the dead?
20 Recourez plutôt à la loi, et au témoignage. Que s’ils ne parlent pas conformément à cette parole, la lumière du matin ne sera pas pour eux.
To the law rather, and to the testimony. And if they speak not according to this word, they shall not have the morning light.
21 Et ils passeront au milieu d’elle, et ils tomberont, et ils souffriront la faim; et lorsqu’ils souffriront la faim, ils se mettront en colère, et ils maudiront leur roi et leur Dieu, et ils regarderont en haut.
And they shall pass by it, they shall fall, and be hungry: and when they shall be hungry, they will be angry, and curse their king, and their God, and look upwards.
22 Et ils porteront leurs regards vers la terre, et voilà la tribulation et les ténèbres, l’abattement et l’angoisse, une nuit sombre qui les poursuivra, et ils ne pourront échapper à leur angoisse.
And they shall look to the earth, and behold trouble and darkness, weakness and distress, and a mist following them, and they cannot fly away from their distress.
