Isaïe 54

1 Loue le Seigneur, stérile, qui n’enfantes pas; chante sa louange, et pousse des cris de joie, toi qui n’enfantais pas: parce que les fils de la délaissée seront plus nombreux que les fils de celle qui a un mari, dit le Seigneur.

Sing for joy, childless woman, you who have had a baby! Shout aloud, and sing happily, Jerusalem, you who have never given birth! For the abandoned woman now has more children than the married woman, says the Lord.

2 Elargis l’enceinte de ta tente, et étends les peaux de tes tabernacles; n’épargne rien; allonge tes cordages, et affermis tes pieux.

Make the tent where you live bigger; stretch the fabric to enlarge your home. Don't try and save space—extend your tent cords and make your tent pegs stronger.

3 Car tu pénétreras à droite et à gauche, et ta race aura des nations pour héritage, et elle habitera des villes auparavant désertes.

You're going to be spreading out right and left; your descendants will take over the land of other nations and live in towns that were once abandoned.

4 Ne crains pas, parce que tu ne seras pas confondue, et tu ne rougiras pas; car tu n’auras pas de honte, parce que tu oublieras la confusion de ta jeunesse; et de l’opprobre de ta viduité, tu ne te souviendras plus.

Do not be afraid, for you won't be humiliated; don't be upset, for you won't be disgraced. You will forget about the shame of your youth, and you won't remember the embarrassment of your widowhood any longer.

5 Parce que celui qui t’a faite te dominera; le Seigneur des armées est son nom, et ton rédempteur, le saint d’Israël, sera appelé le Dieu de toute la terre.

For your Maker is your husband, the Lord Almighty is his name the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer, he is called the God of the whole earth.

6 Car le Seigneur t’a appelée comme une femme délaissée et affligée d’esprit, et comme une femme répudiée dès sa jeunesse, a dit ton Dieu.

The Lord has called you to come back, like a wife who's been abandoned and deeply hurt, a wife who was married when she was young, only to be rejected, says your God.

7 Pour un instant je t’ai un peu délaissée, mais dans mes grandes miséricordes je te rassemblerai.

I deserted you for just a little while, but I will bring you back, showing you a great deal of kindness.

8 Dans un moment d’indignation je t’ai caché ma face pendant un peu de temps, mais dans ma miséricorde éternelle, j’ai eu pitié de toi, a dit ton rédempteur le Seigneur.

In a moment of anger I turned my face away from you, but now with trustworthy love I will always be kind to you, says the Lord, your Redeemer.

9 C’est ici pour moi comme aux jours de Noé, à qui je jurai que je n’amènerais plus les eaux de Noé sur la terre; ainsi j’ai juré que je ne me mettrai pas en colère contre toi, et que je ne te réprimanderai pas.

To me this is just like Noah's time, when I promised on oath that a flood would never cover the earth again. In the same way I promise on oath that I won't be angry with you or tell you off.

10 Car les montagnes seront ébranlées et les collines frémiront; mais ma miséricorde ne se retirera pas de toi, et mon alliance de paix ne sera pas ébranlée, a dit celui qui a pitié de toi, le Seigneur.

Though the mountains cease to exist and the hills disappear, yet my trustworthy love for you won't cease to exist and my agreement of peace won't disappear, says the Lord, who shows you kindness.

11 Tu es pauvre, battue par la tempête, et sans aucune consolation. Voici que moi j’alignerai tes pierres, et tu seras fondée sur des saphirs.

My poor storm-damaged city that can't be comforted! Look, I'm going to reset your stones in cement made of antimony, I will use sapphires to lay your foundations.

12 Et je ferai tes tours de jaspe, et tes portes en pierres ciselées, et tous tes contours en pierres précieuses;

I will make your fortifications out of rubies; I will make your gates out of sparkling beryl. All your walls will be made of precious stones,

13 Et tous tes fils seront instruits par le Seigneur, et une abondance de paix est réservée à tes fils.

and all your children will be students of the Lord, and they will live in complete peace.

14 Et tu seras fondée dans la justice; éloigne-toi de la violence, parce que tu n’auras pas à craindre, et de la frayeur, parce qu’elle ne t’approchera pas.

Your society will operate from principles of goodness and right; nobody will be there to oppress you. You won't be afraid; you won't have to face any kind of terror.

15 Voici que viendra un habitant qui n’était pas avec moi; que celui qui était étranger autrefois pour toi se joindra à toi.

If any invader comes to attack you, I didn't send them; you will defeat anyone who attacks you.

16 Voilà que moi j’ai créé l’ouvrier qui souffle dans le feu des charbons ardents, et en fait sortir un instrument pour son ouvrage, et c’est moi qui ai créé le meurtrier pour détruire.

Look—I have created a blacksmith who blows the coals into a hot flame and forges a suitable weapon; and I have created the destroyer who brings destruction.

17 Tout instrument qui a été imaginé contre toi manquera le but; et toute langue qui te résistera dans le jugement, tu la jugeras. C’est là l’héritage des serviteurs du Seigneur, et la justice qu’ils trouvent auprès de moi, dit le Seigneur.

None of the weapons forged against you will succeed, and you will condemn anyone who accuses you. This is how the servants of the Lord are blessed, and I am the one who vindicates them, declares the Lord.
