Isaïe 48

1 Ecoutez ceci, maison de Jacob, vous qui êtes appelés du nom d’Israël, et êtes sortis des eaux de Juda, qui jurez au nom du Seigneur, qui vous souvenez du Dieu d’Israël, mais non dans la vérité et la justice.

Hear yee this, O house of Iaakob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come out of the waters of Iudah: which sweare by the Name of the Lord, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousnesse.

2 Car ils ont été appelés du nom de la cité sainte, et sur le Dieu d’Israël ils se sont appuyés; le Seigneur des armées est son nom.

For they are called of the holy citie, and staie themselues vpon the God of Israel, whose Name is the Lord of hostes.

3 J’ai annoncé dès lors les événements passés; c’est de ma bouche qu’ils sont sortis et je les ai fait entendre; je les ai accomplis tout d’un coup, et ils sont arrivés.

I haue declared ye former things of old, and they went out of my mouth, and I shewed them: I did them suddenly, and they came to passe.

4 Car je savais que tu es dur, que ton cou est une chaîne de fer, et ton front d’airain.

Because I knewe, that thou art obstinate, and thy necke is an yron sinew, and thy brow brasse,

5 Je t’ai prédit dès lors ces choses; avant qu’elles vinssent je te les ai indiquées, de peur que tu ne dises: Ce sont mes idoles qui les ont faites, et mes images taillées au ciseau et jetées en fonte qui les ont ordonnées.

Therefore I haue declared it to thee of old: before it came to passe, I shewed it thee, lest thou shouldest say, Mine idole hath done them, and my carued image, and my molten image hath commanded them.

6 Les choses que tu as entendues, vois-les toutes; mais vous, est-ce que vous les avez annoncées? Je t’en ai fait entendre dès lors de nouvelles; et il en est de réservées que tu ne connais pas;

Thou hast heard, behold all this, and wil not yee declare it? I haue shewed thee newe things, euen now, and hid things, which thou knewest not.

7 C’est maintenant qu’elles ont été créées, et non pas alors; avant un jour seulement, et tu ne les as pas entendues, de peur que tu ne dises: Voici que moi je les connaissais.

They are created now, and not of olde, and euen before this thou heardest them not, lest thou shouldest say, Beholde, I knewe them.

8 Tu n’as entendu, ni connu, ton oreille même alors n’était pas ouverte; car je sais que prévariquant, tu prévariqueras, et je t’ai appelé transgresseur dès le sein de ta mère.

Yet thou heardest them not, neither diddest know them, neither yet was thine eare opened of olde: for I knewe that thou wouldest grieuously transgresse: therefore haue I called thee a transgressour from the wombe.

9 À cause de mon nom, j’éloignerai ma fureur, et pour ma gloire je te mettrai un frein, pour que tu ne périsses pas,

For my Names sake will I defer my wrath, and for my praise will I refraine it from thee, that I cut thee not off.

10 Je t’ai purifié par le feu, mais non comme l’argent: j’ai choisi pour toi le fourneau de la pauvreté.

Behold, I haue fined thee, but not as siluer: I haue chosen thee in the fornace of affliction.

11 C’est à cause de moi, à cause de moi que je ferai que mon nom ne soit pas blasphémé, et je ne donnerai pas ma gloire à un autre.

For mine owne sake, for mine owne sake wil I doe it: for how should my Name be polluted? surely I wil not giue my glory vnto another.

12 Ecoute-moi, Jacob, et toi, Israël, que j’appelle; moi qui suis, moi le premier, et moi le dernier.

Heare me, O Iaakob and Israel, my called, I am, I am the first, and I am the last.

13 Ma main aussi a fondé la terre, et ma droite a étendu les cieux; moi, je les appellerai, et ils seront là tous ensemble.

Surely mine hand hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heaues: when I cal them, they stand vp together.

14 Rassemblez-vous tous et écoutez-moi: qui d’entre eux a annoncé ces choses? Le Seigneur l’a aimé, il fera sa volonté dans Babylone; et il sera son bras parmi les Chaldéens.

All you, assemble your selues, and heare: which among them hath declared these thinges? The Lord hath loued him: he wil doe his will in Babel, and his arme shalbe against the Chaldeans.

15 C’est moi, c’est moi qui ai parlé, et je l’ai appelé; je l’ai amené, et sa voie est aplanie.

I, euen I haue spoken it, and I haue called him: I haue brought him, and his way shall prosper.

16 Approchez-vous de moi, et écoutez ceci: dès le principe je n’ai pas parlé en secret; dans le temps même, avant l’événement, j’étais là; et maintenant le Seigneur et son esprit m’ont envoyé.

Come neere vnto me: heare ye this: I haue not spoken it in secret from the beginning: from the time that the thing was, I was there, and now the Lord God and his Spirit hath sent me.

17 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur ton rédempteur, le saint d’Israël: Moi le Seigneur ton Dieu, je t’enseigne des choses utiles, je te dirige dans la voie par laquelle tu marches.

Thus saith the Lord thy redeemer, the Holy one of Israel, I am the Lord thy God, which teach thee to profite, and lead thee by the way, that thou shouldest goe.

18 Oh! si tu avais été attentif à mes commandements, ta paix aurait été comme un fleuve, et ta justice comme les flots de la mer;

Oh that thou haddest hearkened to my commandements! then had thy prosperitie bene as the floude, and thy righteousnesse as the waues of the sea.

19 Ta postérité eût été comme le sable de ses rivages, et les rejetons de ton sein comme les petites pierres de ses bords; le nom de la race n’aurait pas péri, et il n’eût pas été effacé de devant ma face.

Thy seede also had beene as the sande, and the fruite of thy body like the grauell thereof: his name should not haue bene cut off nor destroied before me.

20 Sortez de Babylone, fuyez de chez les Chaldéens, avec la voix de l’exultation annoncez cette nouvelle, faites-la entendre et portez-la jusqu’aux extrémités de la terre. Dites: Le Seigneur a racheté son serviteur Jacob.

Goe yee out of Babel: flee yee from the Chaldeans, with a voice of ioy: tel and declare this: shewe it foorth to the ende of the earth: say yee, The Lord hath redeemed his seruant Iaakob.

21 Ils n’ont pas eu soif dans le désert, lorsqu’il les ramenait; il fit sortir de l’eau d’une pierre pour eux, et il fendit la pierre et des eaux coulèrent.

And they were not thirstie: hee led them through the wildernesse: hee caused the waters to flowe out of the rocke for them: for he claue the rocke, and the water gushed out.

22 Il n’y a point de paix pour les impies, dit le Seigneur.

There is no peace, sayeth the Lord, vnto the wicked.
