Isaïe 44
1 Et maintenant écoute, Jacob mon serviteur; et toi, Israël, que j’ai choisi,
Now, then—hear, O Jacob, my Servant, —and Israel whom I have chosen:
2 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur qui t’a fait et formé, dès le sein de ta mère, ton aide: Ne crains point, Jacob mon serviteur, et toi le très juste, que j’ai choisi.
Thus, saith Yahweh—Who made thee and formed thee from birth, Who helpeth thee: Do not fear O my Servant Jacob, and Jeshurun whom I have chosen;
3 Car je répandrai des eaux sur un sol altéré, et des ruisseaux sur une terre aride; je répandrai mon esprit sur ta postérité, et ma bénédiction sur ta race.
For I will pour, Water upon the thirsty soil, and Floods upon the dry ground, —I will pour My spirit upon thy seed, and My blessing upon thine offspring;
4 Et elles germeront parmi les herbes, comme des saules sur des eaux courantes.
So will they spring up among the grass, As willows by the water-courses:
5 Celui-ci dira: Moi je suis au Seigneur; et celui-là prendra le nom de Jacob; et un autre écrira de sa main: Au Seigneur; et par le nom, à Israël il sera assimilé.
This one, will say Yahweh’s, am I, and That one, will call himself by the name of Jacob, and Yonder one will write on his hand—Yahweh’s, And after the name of Israel, will one entitle himself.
6 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, le roi d’Israël, et son rédempteur, le Seigneur des armées: Je suis le premier et je suis le dernier; et hors moi il n’y a point de Dieu.
Thus saith Yahweh—King of Israel, Even his Redeemer, Yahweh of hosts, —I, am, First, and, I, Last, And besides me, there is no God.
7 Qui est semblable à moi? qu’il appelle et qu’il annonce; et qu’il m’expose la série des choses, depuis que j’ai fondé un peuple antique; qu’ils leur annoncent les choses à venir et celles qui doivent être.
Who then, like me, can call, and declare it, and order it, for me, Seeing that I appointed an age-abiding people, —Or things yet to be, and that shall come to pass, Let them declare on their part.
8 Ne craignez pas, ne soyez pas troublés; dès lors je t’ai fait entendre, et je t’ai annoncé: C’est vous qui êtes mes témoins. Est-ce qu’il y a un Dieu hors moi, et un créateur que moi je n’ai pas connu?
Do not ye dread, nor yet be alarmed, Have I not from olden time, told thee and declared? So that, ye, are my witnesses, —Whether there is a GOD besides me? Or is no Rock—I knew of none!
9 Tous les fabricateurs d’idoles ne sont rien, et leurs œuvres qu’ils estiment le plus ne leur seront pas utiles; eux-mêmes sont témoins qu’elles ne voient pas, et qu’elles ne comprennent pas; en sorte qu’ils sont confondus.
The fashioners of an image—all of them, are emptiness, And, the things they delight in, cannot profit, —And, their, witnesses, they, neither see nor know, That they may be ashamed.
10 Qui a formé un dieu, et a jeté en fonte une image qui n’est utile à rien?
Who hath fashioned a GOD, Oran image, hath molten? It cannot profit!
11 Voici que tous ceux qui y ont pris part seront confondus; car ces artisans sont des hommes; ils se réuniront tous, ils se présenteront, et ils auront peur, et seront confondus tous ensemble.
Lo! all his partners, turn pale, Even, the artificers themselves, are of the sons of earth, —Let them gather themselves together—all of them. Let them take their stand, Let them dread, and turn pale, together!
12 Le forgeron a travaillé avec une lime; au moyen de charbons ardents et de marteaux il a formé l’idole, et il a travaillé de son bras vigoureux; il aura faim et il défaillira; il ne boira pas d’eau et il sera épuisé.
As for the smith, [with his] cutting-tool, —When he hath wrought in the live coals, And, with hammers, hath fashioned it, —And hath wrought it with his strong arm, Anon he is hungry, and hath no strength, He hath drunk no water and so hath become faint!
13 Le sculpteur en bois a étendu la règle; il a formé l’idole avec le rabot; il l’a dressée à l’équerre, et l’a contournée avec le compas: et il a fait l’image d’un homme, représentant un bel homme, habitant dans une maison.
As for the carpenter, —He hath stretched out a line hath drawn it with a pencil, Hath made it with carving tools, With compasses, hath rounded it, —And so hath made it after the figure of a great man, After the beauty of a son of earth, that it may remain in a house!
14 Il a coupé des cèdres, il a pris un chêne vert, et un chêne qui avait été parmi les arbres d’une forêt; et il a planté un pin que la pluie a nourri.
When one was cutting him down cedars, Then took he a holm-tree and an oak, And secured them for himself, among the trees of the forest, —He planted a fir-tree and the pouring rain made it grow;
15 Et les hommes s’en sont servis pour le feu; il en a pris lui-même et il s’est chauffé; et il y a mis le feu, et il a cuit des pains; mais avec le reste il a façonné un dieu, et l’a adoré; il a fait une image taillée au ciseau, et il s’est courbé devant elle.
So it serveth for a man to burn, And he hath taken of the branches and warmed himself, Also he kindleth a fire, and baketh bread, —Also he maketh a GOD, and hath bowed himself down, Hath made of it a carved image, and adored it:
16 Il a brûlé au feu une moitié de bois, et de son autre moitié il a préparé des viandes pour manger; il en a préparé un mets, et il s’en est rassasié; il s’est chauffé et a dit: Ah! je me suis chauffé, j’ai vu le feu.
The half thereof, hath he burned in the fire, Over half thereof, he eateth flesh, He roasteth roast, that he may be satisfied, —Also he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen a blaze;
17 Mais de son reste il fait un dieu et une idole; il se courbe devant elle, l’adore et la prie et la supplie, disant: Délivrez-moi, parce que mon Dieu, c’est vous.
And the residue thereof, Into a GOD, he maketh, Into his carved image, —Adoreth it, and boweth down and prayeth unto it, And saith Deliver me, for, my GOD, thou art!
18 Ils n’ont pas su, ils n’ont pas compris; car leurs yeux sont couverts d’un enduit, en sorte que leurs yeux ne voient pas et que leur cœur ne comprend pas.
They have not taken note, neither can they perceive, —He hath besmeared—past seeing—their eyes, Past understanding, their hearts;
19 Ils ne réfléchissent pas en leur esprit, et ils n’ont pas assez de sens pour dire: J’ai brûlé la moitié de ce bois au feu, et j’ai cuit sur ses charbons des pains; j’ai cuit des viandes et j’ai mangé, et du reste ferai-je une idole? devant un tronc d’arbre me prosternerai-je?
And no one reflecteth—There is neither knowledge nor discernment—to say, Half thereof, have I burned up in the fire Moreover also I have baked, on the coals thereof, bread, I roasted flesh, and have been eating, —And of the remainder thereof, an abomination, shall I make? And, to a log of wood, shall I pay adoration?
20 Une partie de ce bois est de la cendre; un cœur insensé a adoré l’idole, et il ne délivrera pas son âme, et il ne dira pas: Peut-être qu’il y a un mensonge dans ma main droite.
He is feeding on ashes, A deluded heart, hath turned him aside, —And he cannot deliver his own soul nor say, Is there not a falsehood in my right hand?
21 Souviens-toi de ces choses, Jacob, et toi, Israël, parce que mon serviteur, c’est toi; je t’ai formé, mon serviteur; c’est toi, Israël, ne m’oublie pas.
Remember these things, O Jacob, And, Israel, —for, my Servant, thou art, —I have fashioned thee, a Servant of mine, thou art.
22 J’ai effacé comme un nuage tes iniquités, et comme une vapeur tes péchés; reviens à moi, parce que je t’ai racheté.
O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me, I have wiped out, As with a thick cloud, thy transgressions, And as with a broad cloud, thy sins, —Return unto me, for I have redeemed thee.
23 Louez, cieux, parce que le Seigneur a fait miséricorde; jubilez, extrémités de la terre, faites retentir la louange, montagnes, forêts, et tous ses arbres, parce que le Seigneur a racheté Jacob, et qu’Israël se glorifiera.
Shout in triumph ye heavens for Yahweh, hath effectually wrought. Shout, O ye underparts of the earth, Ring out, Ye mountains, into cries of triumph, Thou forest, and every tree therein, —For, Yahweh, hath redeemed, Jacob, And in Israel, will he get himself glory.
24 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur ton rédempteur, et qui t’a formé dès le sein de ta mère: Je suis le Seigneur, faisant toutes choses, seul étendant les cieux, affermissant la terre, et nul n’est avec moi.
Thus, saith Yahweh Who hath redeemed thee, Who hath fashioned thee from birth, —I—Yahweh, am the maker of all things, Stretching out the heavens, alone, Spreading forth the earth, of myself;
25 Rendant sans effet les présages des devins, et jetant les magiciens dans la fureur. Faisant tourner les sages en arrière, et rendant leur science insensée.
Frustrating the signs of praters, And, diviners, he confoundeth, —Turning wise men backwards, And their knowledge, he maketh folly;
26 Suscitant la parole de son serviteur, et accomplissant les conseils de ses messagers. Moi qui dis à Jérusalem: Tu seras habitée, et aux cités de Juda: Vous serez édifiées, et à ses déserts, je donnerai la vie.
Establishing the word of his Servant, And the counsel of his Messengers, he maketh good, —Who saith of Jerusalem—She shall be inhabited! And of the cities of Judah—They shall be built! And the ruins thereof, will I set up!
27 Moi qui dis à l’abîme: Sois détruit, et je mettrai tes fleuves à sec.
Who saith to the deep—Be dry and Thy rivers, will I drain!
28 Moi, qui dis à Cyrus: Tu es mon pasteur, et tu accompliras toute ma volonté. Moi, qui dis à Jérusalem: Tu seras édifiée; et au temple: Tu seras fondé.
Who saith of Cyrus—My Shepherd! and All my pleasure, shall he make good Even saying of Jerusalem—She shall be built! And of the temple—Be her foundation laid!
