Isaïe 41
1 Que les îles se taisent devant moi, et que les nations prennent une nouvelle force; qu’elles s’approchent, et alors qu’elles parlent, et entrons ensemble en jugement.
Keep silence before me, O islands; and let the people renew [their] strength: let them come near; then let them speak: let us come near together to judgment.
2 Qui a suscité de l’Orient le juste? qui l’a appelé pour qu’il le suivît? il mettra en sa présence des nations, et lui asservira des rois; il les livrera comme de la poussière à son glaive, et comme une paille emportée par le vent à son arc.
Who raised up the righteous [man] from the east, called him to his foot, gave the nations before him, and made [him] rule over kings? he gave [them] as the dust to his sword, [and] as driven stubble to his bow.
3 En les poursuivant, il passera en paix, et la trace de ses pieds ne paraîtra pas.
He pursued them, [and] passed safely; [even] by the way [that] he had not gone with his feet.
4 Qui a opéré et fait ces choses, appelant les générations dès le commencement? Je suis le Seigneur; c’est moi qui suis le premier et le dernier.
Who hath wrought and done [it], calling the generations from the beginning? I the LORD, the first, and with the last; I [am] he.
5 Les îles ont vu, et elles ont craint; les extrémités de la terre ont été dans la stupeur, elles se sont rapprochées et sont arrivées.
The isles saw [it], and feared; the ends of the earth were afraid, drew near, and came.
6 Chacun portera secours à son voisin, et dira à son frère: Prends courage.
They helped every one his neighbour; and [every one] said to his brother, Be of good courage.
7 L’ouvrier en airain, frappant du marteau, a encouragé celui qui, dans le même temps, battait sur l’enclume, disant: C’est bon pour la soudure; et il l’a assuré avec des clous, afin qu’il ne fût pas ébranlé.
So the carpenter encouraged the goldsmith, [and] he that smootheth [with] the hammer him that smote the anvil, saying, It [is] ready for the sodering: and he fastened it with nails, [that] it should not be moved.
8 Et toi, Israël mon serviteur, Jacob que j’ai choisi, race d’Abraham mon ami,
But thou, Israel, [art] my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend.
9 Dans lequel je t’ai retiré des extrémités de la terre, et de ses pays lointains je t’ai appelé et je t’ai dit: Mon serviteur, c’est toi, je t’ai choisi et je ne t’ai pas rejeté.
[Thou] whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called thee from the chief men thereof, and said unto thee, Thou [art] my servant; I have chosen thee, and not cast thee away.
10 Ne crains pas, parce que voici que je suis avec toi; ne te détourne pas, parce que moi je suis ton Dieu; je t’ai fortifié, je t’ai secouru, et la droite de mon juste t’a soutenu.
Fear thou not; for I [am] with thee: be not dismayed; for I [am] thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
11 Voici qu’ils seront confondus et qu’ils rougiront, tous ceux qui combattent contre toi; ils seront comme s’ils n’étaient pas, et ils périront, les hommes qui te contredisent.
Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish.
12 Tu les chercheras et tu ne les trouveras pas, ces hommes qui t’étaient rebelles; ils seront comme s’ils n’étaient pas; et ils seront comme consumés, les hommes qui faisaient la guerre contre toi.
Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, [even] them that contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought.
13 Parce que c’est moi, le Seigneur ton Dieu, qui te prends par la main et qui te dis: Ne crains pas; c’est moi qui suis ton aide.
For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.
14 Ne crains pas, vermisseau de Jacob, ni vous, morts d’Israël; c’est moi qui suis venu à ton aide, dit le Seigneur; et ton rédempteur est le saint d’Israël.
Fear not, thou worm Jacob, [and] ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the LORD, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.
15 C’est moi qui t’ai posé comme un chariot neuf qui foule le blé, qui a des dents pointues: tu fouleras les montagnes et tu les briseras; et les collines, tu les rendras comme la poussière.
Behold, I will make thee a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: thou shalt thresh the mountains, and beat [them] small, and shalt make the hills as chaff.
16 Tu les vanneras, et un vent les emportera, et un tourbillon les dissipera; et tu exulteras dans le Seigneur, dans le saint d’Israël tu te réjouiras.
Thou shalt fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them: and thou shalt rejoice in the LORD, [and] shalt glory in the Holy One of Israel.
17 Les indigents et les pauvres cherchent de l’eau, et il n’y en a pas; leur langue s’est desséchée par la soif. Moi, le Seigneur, je les exaucerai. Dieu d’Israël, je ne les abandonnerai pas.
[When] the poor and needy seek water, and [there is] none, [and] their tongue faileth for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them.
18 Je découvrirai des fleuves dans des collines en pente, et au milieu des champs, des fontaines; je changerai en un désert des étangs pleins d’eau, et une terre sans chemin en des courants d’eaux.
I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.
19 Je poserai dans la solitude le cèdre, l’acacia, le myrte et l’olivier; je poserai dans le désert le sapin, l’orme et le buis ensemble;
I will plant in the wilderness the cedar, the shittah tree, and the myrtle, and the oil tree; I will set in the desert the fir tree, [and] the pine, and the box tree together:
20 Afin que les hommes voient, qu’ils sachent, qu’ils réfléchissent, et qu’ils comprennent tous ensemble que la main du Seigneur a fait cela, et que le saint d’Israël l’a créé.
That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the LORD hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it.
21 Plaidez sans délai votre cause, dit le Seigneur, apportez vos preuves, si par hasard vous en avez quelqu’une, dit le roi de Jacob.
Produce your cause, saith the LORD; bring forth your strong [reasons], saith the King of Jacob.
22 Qu’ils s’approchent, et qu’ils nous annoncent toutes les choses qui doivent arriver; annoncez celles qui furent les premières; et nous y appliquerons notre cœur, et nous saurons leur fin; et indiquez-nous celles qui doivent arriver.
Let them bring [them] forth, and shew us what shall happen: let them shew the former things, what they [be], that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them; or declare us things for to come.
23 Annoncez-nous les choses qui doivent arriver dans l’avenir, et nous saurons que vous êtes dieux; faites aussi du bien ou du mal, si vous le pouvez, et nous parlerons, et nous verrons ensemble.
Shew the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that ye [are] gods: yea, do good, or do evil, that we may be dismayed, and behold [it] together.
24 Voilà que vous, vous sortez de rien, et votre œuvre de ce qui n’est pas; c’est l’abomination qui vous a choisis.
Behold, ye [are] of nothing, and your work of nought: an abomination [is he that] chooseth you.
25 Je l’ai suscité de l’aquilon, et il viendra du levant; il invoquera mon nom; et il traitera les magistrats comme de la boue, et il les foulera comme le potier foule sous ses pieds l’argile.
I have raised up [one] from the north, and he shall come: from the rising of the sun shall he call upon my name: and he shall come upon princes as [upon] morter, and as the potter treadeth clay.
26 Qui a annoncé ces choses dès le commencement, afin que nous les sachions, et dès le principe, afin que nous disions: Vous êtes juste? Il n’y a personne qui annonce et qui prédit, ni personne qui entend vos paroles.
Who hath declared from the beginning, that we may know? and beforetime, that we may say, [He is] righteous? yea, [there is] none that sheweth, yea, [there is] none that declareth, yea, [there is] none that heareth your words.
27 Le premier, il dira à Sion: Vois, ils sont ici; et à Jérusalem je donnerai un évangéliste.
The first [shall say] to Zion, Behold, behold them: and I will give to Jerusalem one that bringeth good tidings.
28 Et j’ai vu, et il n’y avait pas même parmi eux quelqu’un qui formât un dessein, et qui, interrogé, répondît un mot.
For I beheld, and [there was] no man; even among them, and [there was] no counsellor, that, when I asked of them, could answer a word.
29 Voici que tous sont injustes, et leurs ouvrages vains; du vent et du vide sont leurs simulacres.
Behold, they [are] all vanity; their works [are] nothing: their molten images [are] wind and confusion.
