Isaïe 40
1 Consolez-vous, mon peuple, consolez-vous, dit votre Dieu.
Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.
2 Parlez au cœur de Jérusalem et appelez-la; parce que sa malice est arrivée au terme, son iniquité a été pardonnée; elle a reçu de la main du Seigneur une double peine pour tous ses péchés.
Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of Yhwh's hand double for all her sins.
3 Voici la voix de quelqu’un qui crie dans le désert: Préparez la voie du Seigneur; rendez droits dans la solitude les sentiers de notre Dieu.
The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of Yhwh, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
4 Toute vallée sera comblée, et toute montagne et colline sera abaissée; les chemins tortus seront redressés, et les raboteux deviendront des voies aplanies.
Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
5 Et la gloire du Seigneur sera révélée, et toute chair verra en même temps que la bouche du Seigneur a parlé.
And the glory of Yhwh shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of Yhwh hath spoken it.
6 Voici la voix de quelqu’un qui dit: Crie. Et j’ai dit: Que dirai-je? Toute chair est de l’herbe, et toute sa gloire est comme la fleur du champ.
The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:
7 L’herbe s’est desséchée, et la fleur est tombée, parce que le souffle du Seigneur a soufflé sur elle. Vraiment l’herbe, c’est le peuple;
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of Yhwh bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
8 L’herbe s’est desséchée, et la fleur est tombée; mais la parole de notre Seigneur demeure éternellement.
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
9 Sur une haute montagne, monte, toi qui évangélises Sion; élève avec force ta voix, toi qui évangélises Jérusalem; élève-la, ne crains pas. Dis aux cités de Juda: Voici votre Dieu;
O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!
10 Voici que le Seigneur Dieu viendra dans sa puissance, et que son bras dominera; voici que sa récompense est avec lui, et que son œuvre est devant lui.
Behold, the Lord Yhwh will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
11 Comme un pasteur, il paîtra son troupeau, et avec son bras il rassemblera les agneaux, et il les prendra dans son sein, il portera lui-même les brebis pleines.
He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.
12 Qui a mesuré les eaux dans sa poignée, et a pesé les cieux dans la paume de sa main? Qui a soutenu de trois doigts la masse de la terre, et a équilibré les montagnes au poids, et les collines dans la balance?
Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?
13 Qui a aidé l’esprit du Seigneur? ou qui a été son conseiller et l’a enseigné?
Who hath directed the Spirit of Yhwh, or being his counsellor hath taught him?
14 Avec qui est-il entré en conseil, et qui lui a donné l’intelligence, et lui a enseigné le sentier de la justice, et l’a formé à la science, et lui a montré la voie de la prudence?
With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of understanding?
15 Voici que les nations sont réputées comme une goutte coulant d’un seau, comme ce qui donne un mouvement à une balance; voici que les îles sont comme une poussière légère.
Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.
16 Et le Liban ne suffira pas pour allumer le feu de son autel, et ses animaux ne suffiront pas pour un holocauste.
And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt offering.
17 Toutes les nations, comme si elles n’étaient pas, ainsi sont-elles devant lui; et elles sont réputées par lui comme le néant et le vide.
All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity.
18 À qui donc avez-vous fait semblable le Seigneur? quelle forme lui donnerez-vous?
To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?
19 Est-ce que l’ouvrier ne jette pas une statue en fonte, ou l’orfèvre ne la forme-t-il pas en or, et l’argenteur ne la recouvre-t-il pas de lames d’argent?
The workman melteth a graven image, and the goldsmith spreadeth it over with gold, and casteth silver chains.
20 Il choisit un bois fort et incorruptible; l’artiste habile cherche comment il placera sa statue, pour qu’elle ne chancelle point.
He that is so impoverished that he hath no oblation chooseth a tree that will not rot; he seeketh unto him a cunning workman to prepare a graven image, that shall not be moved.
21 Est-ce que vous ne savez pas? est-ce que vous n’avez pas entendu? est-ce qu’on ne vous a pas annoncé dès le commencement? est-ce que vous n’avez pas compris les fondements de la terre?
Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?
22 Est-ce que vous n’avez pas compris qui est celui qui demeure sur le globe de la terre, et ses habitants sont comme des sauterelles; qui a étendu les cieux comme rien, et les a déployés comme un tabernacle qui doit être habité?
It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
23 Qui réduit les scrutateurs des secrets à être comme s’ils n’étaient pas, et a fait des juges de la terre une chose vaine?
That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.
24 Et à la vérité leur tronc n’avait été ni planté, ni semé, ni enraciné dans la terre; soudain Dieu a soufflé sur eux et ils se sont desséchés, et un tourbillon les emportera comme la paille.
Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble.
25 Et à qui m’avez-vous assimilé et égalé, dit le saint?
To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.
26 Levez en haut vos yeux, et voyez qui a créé ces choses; qui fait lever en nombre leur milice, qui les appelle toutes par leur nom; à cause de la grandeur de sa puissance, et de sa force et de sa vertu, pas une seule ne manque.
Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.
27 Pourquoi dis-tu, ô Jacob, et dis-tu, ô Israël: Ma voie a été cachée au Seigneur, et par mon Dieu mon jugement a été mis de côté?
Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from Yhwh, and my judgment is passed over from my God?
28 Est-ce que tu ne sais pas, ou n’as-tu pas appris? Dieu est l’éternel Seigneur qui a créé les limites de la terre; il ne défaudra pas, il ne se fatiguera pas, et l’investigation de sa sagesse n’est pas possible.
Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, Yhwh, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
29 C’est lui qui donne la vigueur l’homme las; et pour ceux qui ne sont pas, il augmente le courage et la force.
He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
30 Les enfants défaudront, et se fatigueront, et les jeunes hommes tomberont par l’affaiblissement.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
31 Mais ceux qui espèrent dans le Seigneur prendront une force nouvelle; ils prendront des ailes comme les aigles, ils courront, et ne se fatigueront pas; ils marcheront et ne défaudront pas.
But they that wait upon Yhwh shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
