Isaïe 38

1 En ces jours-là, Ezéchias fut malade jusqu’à la mort, et entra auprès de lui Isaïe, le prophète, fils d’Amos, et lui dit: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Mets ordre à ta maison, parce que tu mourras, toi, et tu ne vivras pas.

In those days was Hezekiah sick with a mortal disease. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said to him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thy house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live.

2 Et Ezéchias tourna sa face vers la muraille et pria le Seigneur,

Then Hezekiah turned his face towards the wall, and prayed to the LORD,

3 Et il dit: Je vous conjure. Seigneur, souvenez-vous, je vous prie, comment j’ai marché devant vous dans la vérité et avec un cœur parfait, et comment j’ai fait ce qui est bon à vos yeux. Et Ezéchias pleura d’un grand pleur.

And said, Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done [that which is] good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

4 Et la parole du Seigneur fut adressée à Isaïe, disant:

Then came the word of the LORD to Isaiah, saying,

5 Va, et dis à Ezéchias: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu de David, votre père: J’ai entendu ta prière, et j’ai vu tes larmes; et voici que j’ajouterai à tes jours quinze années;

Go and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add to thy days fifteen years.

6 Et je t’arracherai à la main du roi des Assyriens, toi et cette cité, et je la protégerai.

And I will deliver thee and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria: and I will defend this city.

7 Or, voici le signe que tu auras du Seigneur, que le Seigneur accomplira cette parole qu’il a dite:

And this [shall be] a sign to thee from the LORD, that the LORD will do this thing that he hath spoken;

8 Voici que moi je ferai que l’ombre des lignes par lesquelles elle était descendue sur l’horloge d’Achaz au soleil, retournera en arrière de dix lignes. Et le soleil retourna de dix lignes par les degrés par lesquels il était descendu.

Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which hath gone down on the sun-dial of Ahaz ten degrees backward. So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it had gone down.

9 Écrit d’Ezéchias, roi de Juda, lorsqu’il eut été malade et qu’il eut été rétabli de sa maladie.

The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick, and had recovered from his sickness:

10 Moi j’ai dit: Au milieu de mes jours j’irai aux portes de l’enfer. J’ai cherché le reste de mes années. (Sheol h7585)

I said in the cutting off of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave: I am deprived of the residue of my years. (Sheol h7585)

11 J’ai dit: Je ne verrai pas le Seigneur Dieu dans la terre des vivants. Je n’apercevrai plus d’homme, et d’habitant du repos.

I said, I shall not see the LORD, [even] the LORD, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.

12 Ma génération m’a été enlevée, pliée comme un tabernacle de pasteurs. Ma vie a été coupée comme par un tisserand; lorsque j’ourdissais encore, il m’a tranché; d’un matin à un soir vous m’achèverez.

My age hath departed, and is removed from me as a shepherd's tent: I have cut off like a weaver my life: he will cut me off with pining sickness: from day [even] to night wilt thou make an end of me.

13 J’espérais jusqu’au matin; mais, comme un lion, ainsi il a brisé tous mes os; D’un matin à un soir vous m’achèverez;

I reckoned till morning, [that], as a lion, so will he break all my bones: from day [even] to night wilt thou make an end of me.

14 Comme le petit d’une hirondelle, ainsi je crierai, je méditerai comme la colombe; Mes yeux se sont lassés, regardant en haut; Seigneur, je souffre violence, répondez pour moi.

Like a crane [or] a swallow, so I chattered: I mourned as a dove: my eyes fail [with looking] upward: O LORD, I am oppressed; undertake for me.

15 Que dirai-je, ou que me répondra-t-il, puisque lui-même a fait cela? Je repasserai devant vous toutes mes années dans l’amertume de mon âme.

What shall I say? he hath both spoken to me, and himself hath done [it]: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul.

16 Seigneur, si c’est ainsi que l’on vit, et si c’est dans de telles choses qu’est la vie de mon esprit, vous me châtierez et vous me rendrez la vie.

O LORD, by these [things men] live, and in all these [things is] the life of my spirit: so wilt thou recover me, and make me to live.

17 Voici qu’avec la paix se trouve mon amertume la plus amère; Or, c’est vous qui avez délivré mon âme afin qu’elle ne pérît pas, vous avez jeté derrière vous tous mes péchés.

Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul [delivered it] from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.

18 Parce que l’enfer ne vous glorifiera pas, ni la mort ne vous louera; ceux qui descendent dans la fosse n’attendront pas votre vérité. (Sheol h7585)

For the grave cannot praise thee, death can [not] celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. (Sheol h7585)

19 Le vivant, le vivant, c’est lui qui vous glorifiera, comme moi-même aujourd’hui; le père fera connaître à ses fils votre vérité.

The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I [do] this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth.

20 Seigneur, sauvez-moi, et nous chanterons nos psaumes tous les jours de notre vie, dans la maison du Seigneur.

The LORD [was ready] to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the LORD.

21 Et Isaïe ordonna que l’on prît une panerée de figues, et qu’on en mît un cataplasme sur la blessure du roi, afin qu’il fût guéri.

For Isaiah had said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay [it] for a plaster upon the boil, and he will recover.

22 Et Ezéchias dit: Quel sera le signe que je monterai à la maison du Seigneur?

Hezekiah also had said, What [is] the sign that I shall go up to the house of the LORD?
