Isaïe 23
1 Malheur accablant de Tyr. Hurlez, vaisseaux de la mer, parce qu’a été dévastée la maison d’où les navires avaient accoutumé de venir; c’est de la terre de Céthim que cela leur a été révélé.
The burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of the sea, for the house is destroyed, from whence they were wont to come: from the land of Cethim it is revealed to them.
2 Gardez le silence, vous qui habitez dans l’île; les marchands de Sidon, traversant la mer, t’ont remplie.
Be silent, you that dwell in the island: the merchants of Sidon passing over the sea, have filled thee.
3 Au milieu de grandes eaux la semence du Nil, la moisson du fleuve étaient ses fruits; et elle est devenue le marché des nations.
The seed of the Nile in many waters, the harvest of the river is her revenue: and she is become the mart of the nations.
4 Rougis, Sidon, car la mer parle, la force de la mer, disant: Je n’ai pas été en travail, et je n’ai pas enfanté, et je n’ai pas nourri de jeunes hommes, et je n’ai pas élevé déjeunes vierges.
Be thou ashamed, O Sidon: for the sea speaketh, even the strength of the sea, saying: I have not been in labour, nor have I brought forth, nor have I nourished up young men, nor brought up virgins.
5 Lorsque le bruit sera parvenu en Egypte, on sera dans la douleur en apprenant la ruine de Tyr.
When it shall be heard in Egypt, they will be sorry when they shall hear of Tyre:
6 Passez les mers, hurlez, vous qui habitez dans l’île:
Pass over the seas, howl, ye inhabitants of the island.
7 N’est-elle pas la vôtre cette ville, qui dès les anciens jours se glorifiait de son antiquité? Ses pieds la conduiront dans une terre étrangère pour demeurer.
Is not this your city, which gloried from of old in her antiquity? her feet shall carry her afar off to sojourn.
8 Qui a formé ce dessein contre Tyr, autrefois couronnée, dont les marchands étaient des princes, et les trafiquants des personnages illustres de la terre?
Who hath taken this counsel against Tyre, that was formerly crowned, whose merchants were princes, and her traders the nobles of the earth?
9 C’est le Seigneur des armées qui a formé ce dessein, afin d’enlever l’orgueil de toute gloire et de conduire à l’ignominie tous les illustres de la terre
The Lord of hosts hath designed it, to pull down the pride of all glory, and bring to disgrace all the glorious ones of the earth.
10 Traverse ta terre comme un fleuve, fille de la mer; il n’y a plus de ceinture pour toi.
Pass thy land as a river, O daughter of the sea, thou hast a girdle no more.
11 Le Seigneur a étendu sa main sur la mer, il a ébranlé des royaumes, il a donné ses ordres contre Chanaan, afin de briser ses vaillants guerriers.
He stretched out his hand over the sea, he troubled kingdoms: the Lord hath given a charge against Chanaan, to destroy the strong ones thereof.
12 Et il a dit: Tu ne te glorifieras plus, souffrant violence, après ton ignominie, vierge, fille de Sidon; lève-toi, passe à Céthim, là aussi il n’a pas de repos pour toi.
And he said: Thou shalt glory no more, O virgin daughter of Sidon, who art oppressed: arise and sail over to Cethim, there also thou shalt have no, rest.
13 Voilà la terre des Chaldéens, il n’y eut point un tel peuple, Assur l’a fondée; cependant on a emmené en captivité ses hommes robustes, on a démoli ses maisons, et on en a fait des ruines.
Behold the land of the Chaldeans, there was not such a people, the Assyrian founded it: they have led away the strong ones thereof into captivity, they have destroyed the houses thereof, they have brought it to ruin.
14 Hurlez, vaisseaux de la mer, parce que votre force est détruite.
Howl, O ye ships of the sea, for your strength is laid waste.
15 Et il arrivera en ce jour-là que tu seras dans l’oubli, ô Tyr, soixante-dix ans, comme sont les jours d’un seul roi; mais après soixante-dix ans, Tyr chantera comme une prostituée.
And it shall come to pass in that day that thou, O Tyre, shalt be forgotten, seventy years, according to the days of one king: but after seventy years, there shall be unto Tyre as the song of a harlot.
16 Prends ta harpe, et parcours la ville, prostituée livrée à l’oubli; chante bien, réitère souvent ton chant, afin qu’il y ait souvenir de toi.
Take a harp, go about the city, thou harlot that hast been forgotten: sing well, sing many a song, that thou mayst be remembered.
17 Et il arrivera après soixante-dix ans, que le Seigneur visitera Tyr, et qu’il la ramènera à son commerce, et que de nouveau elle forniquera avec tous les royaumes de la terre, sur la face de la terre.
And it shall come to pass after seventy years, that the Lord will visit Tyre, and will bring her back again to her traffic: and she shall commit fornication again with all the kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth.
18 Et ses affaires et ses profits seront consacrés au Seigneur; ils ne seront pas renfermés, ni mis en réserve, parce que c’est pour ceux qui habitent devant le Seigneur, que sera leur commerce, afin qu’ils mangent à satiété, et qu’ils soient revêtus jusqu’à la vieillesse.
And her merchandise and her hire shall be sanctified to the Lord: they shall not be kept in store, nor laid up: for her merchandise shall be for them that shall dwell before the Lord, that they may eat unto fulness, and be clothed for a continuance.
