Isaïe 14
1 Près de venir est son temps, et ses jours ne seront pas différés. Car le Seigneur aura pitié de Jacob, il fera encore choix d’Israël, et il les fera reposer dans leur terre; l’étranger se joindra à eux, et il s’attachera à la maison de Jacob.
For Jehovah will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in rest in their own land; and the stranger shall be united to them, and they shall be joined to the house of Jacob.
2 Et les peuples les prendront et les ramèneront en leur lieu; et la maison d’Israël les possédera dans la terre du Seigneur comme serviteurs et comme servantes; et ils prendront ainsi ceux qui les avaient pris; et ils soumettront leurs exacteurs.
And the peoples shall take them and bring them to their place; and the house of Israel shall possess them in the land of Jehovah for servants and handmaids; and they shall take them captive whose captives they were, and they shall rule over their oppressors.
3 Et il arrivera en ce jour-là, que lorsque le Seigneur t’aura donné du repos après ton travail, et après ton oppression, et après la dure servitude à laquelle tu as été auparavant assujetti;
And it shall come to pass in the day that Jehovah shall give thee rest from thy sorrow and from thy trouble and from the hard bondage wherein thou wast made to serve,
4 Tu emploieras cette parabole contre le roi de Babylone, et tu diras: Comment a cessé l’exacteur, et a discontinué le tribut?
that thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased, — the exactress of gold ceased!
5 Le Seigneur a brisé le bâton des impies, la verge des dominateurs,
Jehovah hath broken the staff of the wicked, the sceptre of the rulers.
6 Qui, dans son indignation, frappait des peuples d’une plaie incurable, qui, dans sa fureur, assujettissait des nations, qui les persécutait cruellement.
He that smote the peoples in wrath with a relentless stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted unsparingly.
7 Toute la terre se repose et est en silence, elle est dans la joie et dans l’exultation;
The whole earth is at rest, is quiet: they break forth into singing.
8 Les sapins même et les cèdres du Liban se sont réjouis à ton sujet, disant: Depuis que tu dors, il ne monte personne qui nous abatte.
Even the cypresses rejoice at thee, the cedars of Lebanon, [saying, ] Since thou art laid down, no feller is come up against us.
9 L’enfer au-dessous a été tout troublé au moment de ton arrivée, il t’a suscité les géants. Tous les princes de la terre se sont levés de leurs trônes, ainsi que tous les princes des nations. (Sheol h7585)
Sheol from beneath is moved for thee to meet [thee] at thy coming, stirring up the dead for thee, all the he-goats of the earth; making to rise from their thrones all the kings of the nations. (Sheol h7585)
10 Tous élèveront la voix, et te diront: Toi aussi tu as reçu des blessures comme nous, tu es devenu semblable à nous.
All of them shall answer and say unto thee, Art thou also become powerless as we; art thou become like unto us!
11 Ton orgueil a été précipité dans les enfers, ton cadavre est tombé par terre; au-dessous de toi la teigne formera ta couche, et ta couverture seront les vers. (Sheol h7585)
— Thy pomp is brought down to Sheol, the noise of thy lyres: the maggot is spread under thee, and worms cover thee. (Sheol h7585)
12 Comment es-tu tombé du ciel, lucifer qui dès le matin te levais? Comment as-tu été renversé sur la terre, toi qui faisais des blessures aux nations?
How art thou fallen from heaven, Lucifer, son of the morning! Thou art cut down to the ground, that didst prostrate the nations!
13 Qui disais dans ton cœur: Je monterai au ciel, sur les astres de Dieu j’élèverai mon trône; je m’assiérai sur la montagne du Testament, aux côtés de l’aquilon.
And thou that didst say in thy heart, I will ascend into the heavens, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God, and I will sit upon the mount of assembly, in the recesses of the north;
14 Je monterai sur la hauteur des nues, je serai semblable au Très-Haut.
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High:
none the less art thou brought down to Sheol, to the recesses of the pit. (Sheol h7585)
16 Ceux qui te verront se pencheront vers toi, et ils te considéreront et te diront: Est-ce là cet homme qui a troublé la terre, qui a ébranlé les royaumes;
They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee; they shall consider thee, [saying, ] Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that shook kingdoms;
17 Qui a fait de l’univers un désert, et a détruit ses villes, et à ses captifs n’a pas ouvert la prison?
[that] made the world as a wilderness, and overthrew the cities thereof; [that] dismissed not his prisoners homewards?
18 Tous les rois des nations, tous se seront endormis dans la gloire, chacun dans sa maison.
— All the kings of the nations, all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own house;
19 Mais toi, tu as été jeté loin de ton sépulcre, comme un tronc inutile, et souillé, et enveloppé avec ceux qui ont été tués par le glaive et qui sont descendus au fond de la fosse comme un cadavre putréfié.
but thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, covered with the slain — those thrust through with the sword, that go down to the stones of the pit: like a carcase trodden under foot.
20 Tu n’auras pas même part avec eux à la sépulture, parce que c’est toi qui as détruit entièrement ta terre, toi qui as tué ton peuple; la race des méchants n’existera pas éternellement.
Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial; for thou hast destroyed thy land, hast slain thy people. Of the seed of evildoers no mention shall be made for ever.
21 Préparez ses enfants au massacre, à cause de l’iniquité de leurs pères ils ne s’élèveront pas, ils n’hériteront pas de la terre, et ils ne rempliront pas la face du globe de cités.
Prepare ye slaughter for his children, because of the iniquity of their fathers; that they may not rise up and possess the earth, nor fill the face of the world with cities.
22 Et je m’élèverai contre eux, dit le Seigneur des armées, et je perdrai le nom de Babylone, et les restes, et le germe, et la race, dit le Seigneur.
For I will rise up against them, saith Jehovah of hosts, and cut off from Babylon name and remnant, and scion and descendant, saith Jehovah.
23 Et j’en ferai la possession du hérisson; j’en ferai des marais d’eaux, et je la balayerai avec un balai en la raclant, dit le Seigneur des armées.
And I will make it a possession for the bittern, and pools of water; and I will sweep it with the besom of destruction, saith Jehovah of hosts.
24 Le Seigneur des armées a juré, disant: Certainement, comme j’ai pensé, de même il en sera, et comme j’ai arrêté dans mon esprit,
Jehovah of hosts hath sworn saying, Assuredly as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, it shall stand:
25 Ainsi il arrivera; afin que je brise l’Assyrien dans ma terre, et que sur mes montagnes je le foule aux pieds, que son joug soit emporté loin d’eux, et que son fardeau soit enlevé de leur épaule.
to break the Assyrian in my land; and upon my mountains will I tread him under foot; and his yoke shall depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders.
26 C’est là le dessein que j’ai formé sur toute la terre, et c’est là la main étendue sur toutes les nations.
This is the counsel which is purposed concerning the whole earth; and this is the hand which is stretched out upon all the nations.
27 Car le Seigneur des armées l’a décrété; qui pourra infirmer son décret? et sa main est étendue, qui la détournera?
For Jehovah of hosts hath purposed, and who shall frustrate [it]? And his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?
28 En l’année, à laquelle est mort le roi Achaz, a été faite cette prophétie accablante:
In the year of the death of king Ahaz was this burden:
29 Ne te réjouis pas, toi terre entière de Palestine, de ce qu’a été brisée la verge de celui qui te frappait; car de la race du serpent sortira un basilic, et ce qui en naîtra dévorera l’oiseau.
Rejoice not thou, Philistia, all of thee, because the rod that smote thee is broken; for out of the serpent's root shall come forth a viper, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.
30 Et les plus indigents seront nourris, et les pauvres reposeront avec confiance; et je ferai mourir ta racine, et tes restes, je les tuerai.
And the firstborn of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety; but I will kill thy root with famine, and thy remnant shall be slain.
31 Pousse des hurlements, porte; crie, cité; toute la Palestine a été renversée; car c’est de l’aquilon que la fumée viendra; et il n’est personne qui fuira son armée.
Howl, O gate! cry, O city! thou, Philistia, art wholly dissolved; for there cometh from the north a smoke, and none remaineth apart in his gatherings [of troops].
32 Et que répondra-t-on aux messagers de la nation? Que c’est le Seigneur qui a fondé Sion, et qu’en lui espéreront les pauvres de son peuple.
And what shall be answered to the messengers of the nation? That Jehovah hath founded Zion, and the afflicted of his people find refuge in it.
