Osée 11
1 Comme un matin passe, ainsi a passé le roi d’Israël. Parce qu’Israël était un enfant, je l’ai aimé, et de l’Egypte j’ai rappelé mon fils.
When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.
2 Mes prophètes les ont appelés, et c’est ainsi qu’ils s’en sont allés loin de leur face; ils immolaient aux Baalim, et ils sacrifiaient aux simulacres.
The more [the prophets] called them, the more they went from them: they sacrificed unto the Baalim, and burned incense to graven images.
3 Et moi, comme le père nourricier d’Ephraïm, je les portais dans mes bras; et ils n’ont pas compris que je prenais soin d’eux.
Yet I taught Ephraim to walk; I took them on my arms; but they knew not that I healed them.
4 Je les attirerai par les attaches d’Adam, par les liens de la charité, et je serai pour eux comme celui qui enlèverait le joug de dessus leurs joues, et je me suis tourné vers lui, afin qu’il eût de quoi manger.
I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love; and I was to them as they that lift up the yoke on their jaws; and I laid food before them.
5 Il ne retournera pas dans la terre d’Egypte; et Assur lui-même sera son roi, puisqu’ils n’ont pas voulu se convertir.
They shall not return into the land of Egypt; but the Assyrian shall be their king, because they refused to return [to me].
6 Le glaive a commencé dans ses cités, et il consumera ses hommes d’élite, et il dévorera leurs chefs.
And the sword shall fall upon their cities, and shall consume their bars, and devour [them], because of their own counsels.
7 Et mon peuple aspirera après mon retour; mais il leur sera imposé à tous ensemble un joug qui ne sera pas enlevé.
And my people are bent on backsliding from me: though they call them to [him that is] on high, none at all will exalt [him].
8 Comment te traiterai-je, Ephraïm, te protégerai-je, Israël? est-ce que je te traiterai comme Adama, ferai-je de toi comme de Séboïm? Mon cœur est bouleversé au dedans de moi, pareillement mon repentir est suscité.
How shall I give thee up, Ephraim? [how] shall I cast thee off, Israel? how shall I make thee as Admah? [how] shall I set thee as Zeboiim? my heart is turned within me, my compassions are kindled together.
9 Je n’assouvirai pas l’ardeur de ma colère; je n’en viendrai point à perdre entièrement Ephraïm, puisque je suis Dieu et non pas un homme; je suis saint au milieu de toi; et je n’entrerai pas dans une cité.
I will not execute the fierceness of mine anger, I will not return to destroy Ephraim: for I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of thee; and I will not come in wrath.
10 Ils iront après le Seigneur; il rugira comme un lion; parce que lui-même rugira, les fils de la mer seront saisis d’effroi.
They shall walk after Jehovah, who will roar like a lion; for he will roar, and the children shall come trembling from the west.
11 Et ils s’envoleront de l’Egypte, comme un oiseau, et comme une colombe de la terre des Assyriens; et je les établirai dans leurs maisons, dit le Seigneur.
They shall come trembling as a bird out of Egypt, and as a dove out of the land of Assyria; and I will make them to dwell in their houses, saith Jehovah.
12 Ephraïm m’a circonvenu par tromperie, et la maison d’Israël par feinte; mais Juda s’est conduit avec Dieu et avec les saints en témoin fidèle.
Ephraim compasseth me about with falsehood, and the house of Israel with deceit; but Judah yet ruleth with God, and is faithful with the Holy One.
