Hébreux 7
1 Car ce Melchisédech, roi de Salem et prêtre du Dieu très haut, qui alla au-devant d’Abraham, comme il revenait de la défaite des rois, et qui le bénit;
For this Melchisedec, King of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from smiting the kings, and blessed him;
2 Auquel aussi Abraham donna la dîme de tout; dont le nom s’interprète premièrement par roi de justice, et ensuite aussi par roi de Salem, c’est-à-dire roi de paix;
to whom Abraham gave also the tenth portion of all; first being interpreted King of righteousness, and then also King of Salem, which is King of peace;
3 Qui est sans père, sans mère, sans généalogie; n’ayant ni commencement de jours ni fin de vie, ressemblant ainsi au Fils de Dieu, demeure prêtre à perpétuité.
without father, without mother, without genealogy; having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but assimilated to the Son of God, abides a priest continually.
4 Or considérez combien est grand celui à qui Abraham, patriarche, donna même la dîme des plus riches dépouilles.
Now consider how great this [personage] was, to whom [even] the patriarch Abraham gave a tenth out of the spoils.
5 À la vérité, ceux des fils de Lévi qui ont reçu le sacerdoce ont ordre, selon la loi, de prendre la dîme du peuple, c’est-à-dire de leurs frères, quoique ceux-ci soient sortis d’Abraham aussi bien qu’eux.
And they indeed from among the sons of Levi, who receive the priesthood, have commandment to take tithes from the people according to the law, that is from their brethren, though these are come out of the loins of Abraham:
6 Mais celui dont la génération n’est point comptée parmi eux a pris la dîme d’Abraham et a béni celui qui avait les promesses.
but he who has no genealogy from them has tithed Abraham, and blessed him who had the promises.
7 Or, sans aucun doute, c’est l’inférieur qui est béni par le supérieur.
But beyond all gainsaying, the inferior is blessed by the better.
8 Ici, en effet, ceux qui reçoivent la dîme sont des hommes mortels; mais là l’un d’eux n’est représenté que comme vivant.
And here dying men receive tithes; but there [one] of whom the witness is that he lives;
9 Et Lévi, qui a reçu la dîme. Ta payée lui-même (pour ainsi dire) en la personne d’Abraham;
and, so to speak, through Abraham, Levi also, who received tithes, has been made to pay tithes.
10 Car il était encore dans son père, quand Melchisédech alla au-devant de lui.
For he was yet in the loins of his father when Melchisedec met him.
11 Si donc le sacerdoce lévitique (sous lequel le peuple reçut la loi) devait donner la perfection, qu’était-il besoin qu’il s’élevât encore un autre prêtre selon l’ordre de Melchisédech, et non selon l’ordre d’Aaron?
If indeed then perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, for the people had their law given to them in connexion with it, what need [was there] still that a different priest should arise according to the order of Melchisedec, and not be named after the order of Aaron?
12 Car, le sacerdoce changé, il est nécessaire que la loi soit aussi changée.
For, the priesthood being changed, there takes place of necessity a change of law also.
13 Or celui dont ces choses sont dites est d’une autre tribu de laquelle nul n’a servi l’autel;
For he, of whom these things are said, belongs to a different tribe, of which no one has [ever] been attached to the service of the altar.
14 Puisqu’il est manifeste que Notre Seigneur est sorti de Juda, tribu dont Moïse n’a rien dit touchant le sacerdoce.
For it is clear that our Lord has sprung out of Juda, as to which tribe Moses spake nothing as to priests.
15 Et cela est plus manifeste encore, s’il s’élève un autre prêtre qui est semblable à Melchisédech,
And it is yet more abundantly evident, since a different priest arises according to the similitude of Melchisedec,
16 Et qui n’est point établi selon la disposition d’une loi charnelle, mais selon la vertu de sa vie impérissable.
who has been constituted not according to law of fleshly commandment, but according to power of indissoluble life.
17 Car l’Ecriture rend ce témoignage: Vous êtes prêtre pour l’éternité, selon l’ordre de Melchisédech. (aiōn g165)
For it is borne witness, Thou art a priest for ever according to the order of Melchisedec. (aiōn g165)
18 Ainsi l’ancienne disposition est abolie, à cause de son impuissance et de son inutilité;
For there is a setting aside of the commandment going before for its weakness and unprofitableness,
19 (Car la loi n’a rien amené à la perfection); mais elle a été une introduction à une meilleure espérance, par laquelle nous approchons de Dieu.
(for the law perfected nothing, ) and the introduction of a better hope by which we draw nigh to God.
20 Et de plus, ce n’a point été sans serment (car les autres prêtres ont été établis sans serment;
And by how much [it was] not without the swearing of an oath;
21 Mais celui-ci Va été avec serment, par celui qui lui a dit: Le Seigneur a juré, et il ne s’en repentira point: Vous êtes prêtre pour l’éternité); (aiōn g165)
(for they are become priests without the swearing of an oath, but he with the swearing of an oath, by him who said, as to him, The Lord has sworn, and will not repent [of it], Thou [art] priest for ever [according to the order of Melchisedec]; ) (aiōn g165)
22 Tant est plus parfaite l’alliance dont Jésus a été fait médiateur,
by so much Jesus became surety of a better covenant.
23 Il y a eu aussi successivement beaucoup de prêtres, parce que la mort les empêchait de l’être toujours;
And they have been many priests, on account of being hindered from continuing by death;
but he, because of his continuing for ever, has the priesthood unchangeable. (aiōn g165)
25 C’est pourquoi il peut même sauver perpétuellement ceux qui, par son entremise, s’approchent de Dieu, étant toujours vivant, afin d’intercéder pour nous.
Whence also he is able to save completely those who approach by him to God, always living to intercede for them.
26 Car il convenait que nous eussions un tel pontife, saint, innocent, sans tache, séparé des pécheurs, et devenu plus élevé que les cieux;
For such a high priest became us, holy, harmless, undefiled, separated from sinners, and become higher than the heavens:
27 Qui n’a pas besoin, comme les prêtres, d’offrir des victimes, d’abord pour ses propres péchés, ensuite pour ceux du peuple; ce qu’il a fait une fois en s’offrant lui-même.
who has not day by day need, as the high priests, first to offer up sacrifices for his own sins, then [for] those of the people; for this he did once for all [in] having offered up himself.
28 Car la loi établit pour prêtres des hommes faibles; mais la parole jurée, qui est postérieure à la loi, constitue le Fils éternellement parfait. (aiōn g165)
For the law constitutes men high priests, having infirmity; but the word of the swearing of the oath which [is] after the law, a Son perfected for ever. (aiōn g165)
