Hébreux 4

1 Craignons donc que, négligeant la promesse d’entrer dans son repos, quelqu’un de vous ne s’en trouve exclu.

Let us fear therefore, lest perhaps anyone of you should seem to have come short of a promise of entering into his rest.

2 Car elle nous a été annoncée comme à eux. Mais la parole qu’ils entendirent ne leur servit point, n’étant pas jointe à la foi dans ceux qui l’entendirent.

For indeed we have had good news preached to us, even as they also did, but the word they heard did not profit them, because they were not united by faith with those who heard.

3 Mais nous entrerons dans le repos, nous qui avons cru, selon ce qu’il dit: Comme je l’ai juré dans ma colère: Ils n’entreront point dans mon repos; or c’est certainement le repos des œuvres accomplies depuis la création du monde.

For we who have believed do enter into that rest, even as he has said, "As I swore in my wrath, they will not enter into my rest;" although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

4 Car, dans un endroit, Y Ecriture dit du septième jour: Et Dieu se reposa le septième jour de toutes ses œuvres.

For he has said this somewhere about the seventh day, "And God rested on the seventh day from all his works;"

5 Et de nouveau, en cet endroit: Ils n’entreront point dans mon repos.

and in this place again, "They will not enter into my rest."

6 Puis donc que quelques-uns doivent encore entrer, et que ceux qui les premiers furent évangélisés n’y sont pas entrés, pour cause d’incrédulité,

Since therefore it remains for some to enter it, and they to whom the good news was before preached failed to enter in because of disobedience,

7 Dieu détermine encore un certain jour. Aujourd’hui, disant, par David, mais bien longtemps après, comme il a été dit plus haut: Aujourd’hui, si vous entendez sa voix, n’endurcissez pas vos cœurs.

he again appoints a certain day, "Today," saying through David so long a time afterward (just as has been said), "Today if you will hear his voice, do not harden your hearts."

8 Car si Jésus leur avait donné le repos, David n’aurait point parlé d’un autre jour après celui-là.

For if Joshua had given them rest, he would not have spoken afterward of another day.

9 Ainsi, il reste encore un jour de repos pour le peuple de Dieu.

There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God.

10 Car celui qui est entré dans son repos, lui aussi s’est reposé de ses œuvres, comme Dieu des siennes.

For he who has entered into his rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from his.

11 Hâtons-nous donc d’entrer dans ce repos, de peur que quelqu’un ne suive cet exemple d’incrédulité.

Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, lest anyone fall after the same example of disobedience.

12 Car la parole de Dieu est vivante, efficace, et plus pénétrante que tout glaive à deux tranchants; elle atteint jusqu’à la division de l’âme et de l’esprit, des jointures et des moelles; et elle discerne les pensées et les intentions du cœur.

For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

13 Et aucune créature n’est invisible en sa présence; mais tout est à nu et à découvert aux yeux de celui dont nous parlons.

There is no creature that is hidden from his sight, but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

14 Ayant donc un grand pontife, qui a traversé les cieux, Jésus, Fils de Dieu, retenons fermement ce que nous confessons.

Having then a great high priest, who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold tightly to our confession.

15 Car nous n’avons point un pontife qui ne puisse compatir à nos infirmités, ayant éprouvé comme nous toutes sortes de tentations, hors le péché.

For we do not have a high priest who cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but one who has been in all points tempted like we are, yet without sin.

16 Allons donc avec confiance au trône de la grâce, afin d’obtenir miséricorde et de trouver grâce dans un secours opportun.

Let us therefore draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace for help in time of need.
