Habacuc 2
1 Je me tiendrai à mon poste et j’arrêterai mes pas sur la fortification, et je regarderai attentivement, afin que je voie ce qui me sera dit, et ce que je répondrai à celui qui m’interpellera.
I will stand upon my watch, and fix my foot upon the tower: and I will watch, to see what will be said to me, and what I may answer to him that reproveth me.
2 Et le Seigneur me répondit et dit: Écris la vision, et expose-la sur des tablettes, afin que ne s’arrête pas celui qui la lira;
And the Lord answered me, and said: Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables: that he that readeth it may run over it.
3 Parce que l’accomplissement de la vision est encore éloigné, mais il paraîtra à la fin, et il ne trompera pas, s’il met un certain délai, attends-le; car il va venir, et il ne tardera pas.
For as yet the vision is far off, and it shall appear at the end, and shall not lie: if it make any delay, wait for it: for it shall surely come, and it shall not be slack.
4 Voici que celui qui est incrédule n’aura pas en lui une âme droite; mais le juste vivra de sa foi.
Behold, he that is unbelieving, his soul shall not be right in himself: but the just shall live in his faith.
5 Et comme le vin trompe celui qui en boit, ainsi en sera-t-il de l’homme superbe, et il ne sera pas honoré; lui qui a dilaté son (Sheol h7585)
And as wine deceiveth him that drinketh it: so shall the proud man be, and he shall not be honoured: who hath enlarged his desire like hell: and is himself like death, and he is never satisfied: but will gather together unto him all nations, and heap together unto him all people. (Sheol h7585)
6 Est-ce que tous ceux-ci ne le prendront pas pour un sujet de parabole, et pour le mot de leurs énigmes sur lui, et ne dira-t-on pas: Malheur à celui qui multiplie des biens qui ne sont pas à lui? jusques à quand accumulera-t-il contre lui-même une boue épaisse?
Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a dark speech concerning him: and it shall be said: Woe to him that heapeth together that which is not his own? how long also doth he load himself with thick clay?
7 Est-ce qu’ils ne se lèveront pas soudain, ceux qui doivent te mordre; et ne se réveilleront-ils pas, ceux qui doivent te déchirer, et ne seras-tu pas leur proie?
Shall they not rise up suddenly that shall bite thee: and they be stirred up that shall tear thee, and thou shalt be a spoil to them?
8 Parce que tu as dépouillé beaucoup de nations, ils te dépouilleront toi-même, tous ceux qui seront restés des peuples, à cause du sang d’homme que tu as versé, et de l’iniquité que tu as commise sur le pays, la cité et tous ceux qui habitent en elle.
Because thou hast spoiled many nations, all that shall be left of the people shall spoil thee: because of men’s blood, and for the iniquity of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.
9 Malheur à qui ramasse les fruits d’une avarice criminelle pour sa maison, afin que son nid soit sur un lieu élevé, et qui pense échapper à la main du malheur.
Woe to him that gathereth together an evil covetousness to his house, that his nest may be on high, and thinketh he may be delivered out of the hand of evil.
10 Tu as formé pour ta maison des desseins qui ont été sa confusion, tu as mis en pièces beaucoup de peuples, et ton âme a péché.
Thou hast devised confusion to thy house, thou hast cut off many people, and thy soul hath sinned.
11 Parce que la pierre du milieu de la muraille criera; et le bois qui forme les jointures des édifices répondra.
For the stone shall cry out of the wall: and the timber that is between the joints of the building, shall answer.
12 Malheur à celui qui bâtit une cité dans le sang, et qui fonde une ville sur l’iniquité.
Woe to him that buildeth a town with blood, and prepareth a city by iniquity.
13 Est-ce que toutes ces choses ne viennent pas du Seigneur des armées? car des peuples travailleront pour un grand feu, et des nations pour le néant, et périront.
Are not these things from the Lord of hosts? for the people shall labour in a great fire: and the nations in vain, and they shall faint.
14 Parce que la terre, afin qu’on connaisse la gloire du Seigneur, sera remplie d’ennemis, comme le lit de la mer est couvert par les eaux.
For the earth shall be filled, that men may know the glory of the Lord, as waters covering the sea.
15 Malheur à celui qui donne à boire à son ami en mettant son fiel dans la coupe et en l’enivrant, afin de regarder sa nudité.
Woe to him that giveth drink to his friend, and presenteth his gall, and maketh him drunk, that he may behold his nakedness.
16 Tu as été rempli d’ignominie au lieu de gloire; bois, toi aussi, et sois frappé d’assoupissement; le calice de la droite du Seigneur t’environnera, et un vomissement d’ignominie viendra sur ta gloire.
Thou art filled with shame instead of glory: drink thou also, and fall fast asleep: the cup of the right hand of the Lord shall compass thee, and shameful vomiting shall be on thy glory.
17 Parce que l’iniquité commise sur le Liban te couvrira, et le ravage exercé sur les animaux les épouvantera à cause du sang les hommes versé, et de l’iniquité commise sur le pays et la cité, et tous ceux qui habitent en elle.
For the iniquity of Libanus shall cover thee, and the ravaging of beasts shall terrify them because of the blood of men, and the iniquity of the land, and of the city, and of all that dwell therein.
18 À quoi sert une image taillée au ciseau, que son auteur a faite ainsi qu’une statue jetée en fonte et une image fausse? Car l’auteur a espéré assez dans son œuvre pour faire des simulacres muets.
What doth the graven thing avail, because the maker thereof hath graven it, a molten, and a false image? because the forger thereof hath trusted in a thing of his own forging, to make dumb idols.
19 Malheur à celui qui dit au bois: Réveille-toi, à la pierre silencieuse: Lève-toi; est-ce qu’elle-même pourra l’instruire? Voici qu’elle est couverte d’or et d’argent; et il n’y a aucune vie dans ses entrailles.
Woe to him that saith to wood: Awake: to the dumb stone: Arise: can it teach? Behold, it is laid over with gold, and silver, and there is no spirit in the bowels thereof.
20 Mais le Seigneur est dans son temple saint; que devant sa face toute la terre soit en silence.
But the Lord is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.
