Genèse 6
1 Lorsque les hommes eurent commencé à se multiplier sur la terre, et qu’ils eurent procréé des filles,
And it happened, when mankind began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them,
2 Les fils de Dieu voyant que les filles des hommes étaient belles, prirent leurs femmes entre toutes celles qu’ils avaient choisies.
that God's sons saw that the daughters of humankind were beautiful, and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose.
3 Et Dieu dit: Mon esprit ne demeurera pas dans l’homme pour toujours, parce qu’il est chair; et ses jours seront de cent vingt ans.
And God said, "My Ruach will not remain in humankind forever, since he is indeed flesh; yet his days will be one hundred twenty years."
4 Or il y avait des géants sur la terre en ces jours-là. Car après que les enfants de Dieu se furent approchés des filles des hommes, celles-ci enfantèrent; et de là sont venus ces hommes puissants, fameux dès les temps anciens.
The Nephilim were on the earth in those days (and also after that), when the sons of God had sexual relations with the daughters of humankind and had children by them. They were the mighty men who were from ancient times, famous men.
5 Mais Dieu voyant que la malice des hommes était grande sur la terre, et que toutes les pensées de leurs cœurs étaient tournées au mal en tout temps,
And God saw that the wickedness of humankind was great on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
6 Se repentit d’avoir fait l’homme sur la terre; et touché de douleur jusqu’au fond du cœur,
And God was sorry that he had made humankind on the earth, and he was grieved in his heart.
7 J’exterminerai, dit-il, l’homme que j’ai créé, de la face de la terre, depuis l’homme jusqu’aux animaux, depuis le reptile jusqu’aux oiseaux du ciel; car je me repens de les avoir faits.
God said, "I will destroy humankind whom I have created from the face of the earth; humankind, along with animals, crawling creatures, and flying creatures of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them."
8 Mais Noé trouva grâce devant le Seigneur.
But Noah found favor in the sight of God.
9 Voici les générations de Noé: Noé fut un homme juste et parfait au milieu de tous ceux de son temps; il marcha avec Dieu.
These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time. Noah walked with God.
10 Ainsi, il enfanta trois fils, Sem, Cham et Japhet.
Noah became the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
11 Or la terre fut corrompue et remplie d’iniquité.
The earth was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
12 Lors donc que Dieu eut vu que la terre était corrompue (car toute chair avait corrompu sa voie sur la terre),
God saw the earth, and look, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.
13 Il dit à Noé: La fin de toute chair est venue pour moi; la terre est remplie d’iniquité à cause d’eux, et moi, je les exterminerai avec la terre.
And God said to Noah, "The end of all flesh has come before me, for the earth is filled with violence through them. And look, I will destroy them with the earth.
14 Fais-toi une arche de pièces de bois polies: tu feras dans l’arche des compartiments, et tu l’enduiras de bitume intérieurement et extérieurement.
Make a box-shaped ship of gopher wood. You are to make rooms in the ship, and cover it inside and outside with pitch.
15 Et c’est ainsi que tu la feras: La longueur de l’arche sera de trois cents coudées; sa largeur de cinquante coudées, et sa hauteur de trente coudées.
And this is how you are to make it. The length of the ship is to be five hundred seventeen feet, its breadth eighty-six feet, and its height fifty-two feet.
16 Tu feras une fenêtre à l’arche, que tu termineras par le haut, en la réduisant à une coudée: quant à la porte de l’arche, tu la mettras sur un côté: tu y feras un étage dans le bas, puis un second et un troisième étage.
And you are to make a roof in the ship, and you are to finish it twenty-one inches above. And you are to set the door of the ship in its side. You are to make it with lower, second, and third levels.
17 Et voici que moi j’amènerai les eaux du déluge sur la terre, pour faire périr toute chair en laquelle est l’esprit de vie sous le ciel: tout ce qui est sur la terre sera consumé.
And as for me, look, I am bringing a flood of waters on the earth, to destroy all flesh having the breath of life from under the sky. Everything that is on the earth will die.
18 Mais j’établirai mon alliance avec toi; et tu entreras dans l’arche, toi et tes fils, ta femme et les femmes de tes fils avec toi.
But I will establish my covenant with you. You are to come into the ship, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons' wives with you.
19 Et de tous les animaux de toute chair, tu en feras entrer deux dans l’arche, afin qu’ils vivent avec toi, l’un mâle et l’autre femelle.
Of every living thing of all flesh, you are to bring two of every sort into the ship, to keep them alive with you. They shall be male and female.
20 Des oiseaux selon leur espèce, et des quadrupèdes selon leur espèce et de tout reptile de la terre selon son espèce; de tous ces animaux, dis-je, deux entreront avec toi, afin qu’ils puissent vivre.
Of the flying creatures after their kind, of the animals after their kind, and of every crawling creature of the ground after their kind, two of every sort shall come to you, to keep them alive.
21 Tu prendras donc avec toi de tous les aliments, et tu les emporteras dans l’arche: et ils seront tant pour toi que pour eux, votre nourriture.
And as for you, take for yourself all the kinds of food that are eaten, and gather it to yourself; and it will be food for you, and for them."
22 Et Noé fit tout ce que Dieu lui avait ordonné.
Thus Noah did. According to all that God commanded him, so he did.
