Genèse 42
1 Or Jacob apprenant que l’on vendait des vivres en Égypte, dit à ses fils: Pourquoi êtes-vous si négligents?
And he saw Jacob that there [was] grain in Egypt and he said Jacob to sons his why? are you looking at one another.
2 J’ai appris qu’on vend du blé en Égypte; descendez-y, et achetez ce qui nous est nécessaire, afin que nous puissions vivre, et que nous ne soyons pas consumés par la disette.
And he said here! I have heard that there [is] grain in Egypt go down there towards and buy grain for us from there so we may live and not we will die.
3 Ainsi, descendant pour acheter du blé en Égypte, les dix frères de Joseph
And they went down [the] brothers of Joseph ten to buy grain grain from Egypt.
4 (Benjamin ayant été retenu dans la maison par Jacob qui avait dit à ses frères: C’est de peur qu’en chemin il n’éprouve quelque accident)
And Benjamin [the] brother of Joseph not he sent Jacob with brothers his for he said lest it should happen to him harm.
5 Entrèrent dans la terre d’Égypte avec d’autres qui allaient pour en acheter; car la famine était dans la terre de Chanaan.
And they came [the] sons of Israel to buy grain in among those coming for it was the famine in [the] land of Canaan.
6 Or Joseph était gouverneur dans la terre d’Égypte, et c’est selon sa volonté que le blé se vendait aux peuples. Lors donc que ses frères se furent prosternés devant lui
And Joseph he [was] the ruler over the land he [was] the [one who] sold grain to all [the] people of the land and they came [the] brothers of Joseph and they bowed down to him face [the] ground towards.
7 Et qu’il les eut reconnus, il leur parlait durement, comme à des étrangers, leur demandant: D’où êtes-vous venus? Ils répondirent: De la terre de Chanaan, afin d’acheter ce qui est nécessaire à la vie.
And he saw Joseph brothers his and he recognized them and he acted as a stranger to them and he spoke with them harsh and he said to them from where? have you come and they said from [the] land of Canaan to buy food.
8 Mais cependant reconnaissant ses frères, il ne fut pas reconnu d’eux.
And he recognized Joseph brothers his and they not they recognized him.
9 Et se souvenant des songes qu’autrefois il avait vus, il leur dit: Vous êtes des espions; c’est pour voir les endroits les plus faibles du pays, que vous êtes venus.
And he remembered Joseph the dreams which he had dreamed of them and he said to them [are] spies you to see [the] nakedness of the land you have come.
10 Ils répondirent: Il n’en est pas ainsi, seigneur; mais vos serviteurs sont venus pour acheter des vivres,
And they said to him no O lord my and servants your they have come to buy food.
11 Nous sommes tous fils d’un seul homme; c’est en gens paisibles que nous sommes venus; et vos serviteurs ne méditent rien de mal.
All of us [are] sons of a man one we [are] honest we not they are servants your spies.
12 Joseph leur repartit: Il en est autrement; vous êtes venus pour observer les places de l’Égypte qui ne sont pas fortifiées.
And he said to them In-deed [the] nakedness of the land you have come to see.
13 Mais eux: Nous, vos serviteurs, disent-ils, nous sommes douze frères, fils d’un seul homme dans la terre de Chanaan; le plus jeune est avec notre père, et l’autre n’est plus.
And they said [are] two [plus] ten servants your brothers - we sons of a man one in [the] land of Canaan and there! the young [brother] [is] with father our this day and the one not [is] he.
14 C’est, reprit-il, ce que j’ai dit: Vous êtes des espions.
And he said to them Joseph it [is that] which I said to you saying [are] spies you.
15 Dès maintenant, je vous éprouverai: par la vie de Pharaon, vous ne sortirez pas d’ici, jusqu’à ce que vienne votre frère le plus jeune.
By this you will be tested [by] [the] life of Pharaoh if you will go out from here that except when comes brother your young here.
16 Envoyez l’un d’entre vous, et qu’il l’amène, mais vous, vous serez dans les liens jusqu’à ce qu’il soit prouvé que ce que vous avez dit est vrai ou faux: autrement, par la vie de Pharaon, vous êtes des espions.
Send of yourselves one so he may fetch brother your and you be imprisoned so they may be tested words your ¿ [is] truth with you and if not [by] [the] life of Pharaoh for [are] spies you.
17 Il les mit donc en prison pendant trois jours.
And he removed them to custody three days.
18 Mais, au troisième jour les ayant tirés de prison, il leur dit: Faites ce que j’ai dit et vous vivrez; car je crains Dieu.
And he said to them Joseph on the day third this do and live God I [am] fearing.
19 Si vous êtes des gens paisibles, que l’un de vos frères soit enchaîné dans la prison, et vous, allez et portez le blé que vous avez acheté dans vos maisons;
If [are] honest you brother your one let him be imprisoned in [the] house of custody your and you go take [the] grain of [the] hunger of households your.
20 Mais amenez-moi votre frère le plus jeune, afin que je puisse vérifier vos paroles, et que vous ne mouriez pas. Ils firent comme il avait dit.
And brother your young you will bring to me so they may be verified words your and not you will die and they did so.
21 Et ils se dirent les uns aux autres: C’est justement que nous souffrons tout ceci, parce que nous avons péché contre notre frère, voyant l’angoisse de son âme, quand il nous priait, et nous ne l’avons pas écouté: c’est pour cela qu’est venue sur nous cette tribulation.
And they said each to brother his indeed [are] guilty - we on brother our who we saw [the] distress of self his when sought favor he to us and not we listened there-fore it has come to us the distress this.
22 Un seul d’entre eux, Ruben dit: Ne vous ai-je pas dit: Ne péchez pas contre cet enfant? et vous ne m’avez pas écouté: voilà que son sang est redemandé.
And he answered Reuben them saying ¿ not did I say to you - saying may not you sin against the boy and not you listened and also blood his here! [is] being required.
23 Or, ils ne savaient pas que Joseph les entendît, parce que c’est par interprète qu’il leur parlait.
And they not they knew that [was] hearing Joseph for the interpreter [was] between them.
24 Mais il se retira un moment et pleura: puis revenu, il leur parla.
And he turned away from with them and he wept and he returned to them and he spoke to them and he took from with them Simeon and he bound him to eyes their.
25 Et prenant Siméon et le liant, eux présents, il commanda à ses ministres qu’ils emplissent leurs sacs de blé, et qu’ils remissent l’argent de chacun d’eux dans son sac, en leur donnant de plus des vivres pour la route: ceux-ci firent ainsi.
And he commanded Joseph and people filled vessels their grain and to return silver their each to sack his and to give to them provision[s] for the journey and someone did for them thus.
26 Ainsi les frères de Joseph, emportant leur blé sur leurs ânes, partirent.
And they lifted grain their on donkeys their and they went from there.
27 Or l’un d’eux ayant ouvert son sac pour donner à manger à sa bête dans l’hôtellerie, et ayant vu son argent à l’entrée du sac,
And he opened the one sack his to give fodder to donkey his at the lodging place and he saw silver his and there! it [was] in [the] mouth of sack his.
28 Dit à ses frères: Mon argent m’a été rendu, le voici dans le sac. Etonnés et troublés, ils se disaient mutuellement: Qu’est-ce que Dieu nous a fait?
And he said to brothers his it has been returned silver my and also here! in sack my and it went out heart their and they trembled each to brother his saying what? this has he done God to us.
29 Cependant ils vinrent vers Jacob leur père dans la terre de Chanaan, et ils lui racontèrent tout ce qui leur était arrivé, disant:
And they came to Jacob father their [the] land of towards Canaan and they told to him all the [things which] had happened to them saying.
30 Le maître de ce pays nous a parlé durement, et il a cru que nous étions des explorateurs de la contrée.
He spoke the man [the] lord of the land with us harsh and he made us like [those who] spy out the land.
31 Nous lui avons répondu: Nous sommes des gens paisibles, et nous ne dressons aucune embûche.
And we said to him [are] honest we not we are spies.
32 Nous sommes douze frères, engendrés d’un seul père: l’un n’est plus, et le plus jeune est avec notre père dans la terre de Chanaan.
[are] two [plus] Ten we brothers sons of father our the one not [is] he and the young [brother] this day [is] with father our in [the] land of Canaan.
33 Il nous a reparti: Voici comment j’éprouverai si vous êtes des gens paisibles; laissez un de vos frères auprès de moi, et prenez les provisions nécessaires à vos maisons, et vous en allez.
And he said to us the man [the] lord of the land by this I will know that [are] honest you brother your one leave with me and [the] hunger of households your take and go.
34 Mais votre frère le plus jeune, amenez-le-moi, afin que je sache que vous n’êtes pas des espions, et que vous puissiez recouvrer celui qui est retenu dans les liens, et qu’ensuite vous ayez la liberté d’acheter ce que vous voudrez.
And bring brother your young to me so let me know that not [are] spies you that [are] honest you brother your I will give to you and the land you will go about in.
35 Ces choses dites, comme ils versaient leur blé, ils trouvèrent à l’entrée des sacs chacun leur argent lié; et étant tous ensemble saisis d’effroi,
And it was they [were] emptying sacks their and there! each man [the] bag of silver his [was] in sack his and they saw [the] bags of silver their they and father their and they were afraid.
36 Jacob leur père dit: Vous avez fait que je suis sans enfants: Joseph n’est plus, Siméon est retenu dans les liens, et vous enlèverez Benjamin: c’est sur moi que tous ces malheurs sont retombés.
And he said to them Jacob father their me you are making childless Joseph not [is] he and Simeon not [is] he and Benjamin you will take on me they are all of them.
37 Ruben lui répondit: Tuez mes deux fils, si je ne vous le ramène; remettez-le en ma main, et moi, je vous le rendrai.
And he said Reuben to father his saying two of sons my you will kill if not I will bring him to you put! him on hand my and I I will bring back him to you.
38 Mais Jacob: Non, dit-il, il ne descendra pas avec vous, mon fils: son frère est mort, et lui seul est resté; si quelque chose de fâcheux lui arrivait dans le pays où vous allez, vous feriez descendre mes cheveux blancs avec douleur dans les enfers. (Sheol h7585)
And he said not he will go down son my with you for brother his he has died and he to only him [is] remaining and it will happen to him harm on the journey which you will go on it and you will cause to go down gray hair my in sorrow Sheol towards. (Sheol h7585)
