Genèse 41
1 Après deux ans, Pharaon vit un songe. Il croyait qu’il était debout sur le bord du fleuve,
And it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and, behold, he stood by the river.
2 Duquel montaient sept vaches extrêmement belles et grasses; et elles paissaient dans les marécages.
And, behold, there came up out of the river seven cows, of good appearance and fat in flesh; and they fed in the meadow.
3 Sept autres vaches aussi sortaient du fleuve, hideuses et consumées de maigreur; et elles paissaient sur la rive même du fleuve, dans des lieux verdoyants;
And, behold, seven other cows came up after them out of the river, ill-favored and lean in flesh; and they stood by the other cows upon the brink of the river.
4 Et elles dévorèrent celles dont la beauté et l’embonpoint étaient merveilleux. Pharaon s’étant réveillé,
And the ill-favored and lean-fleshed cows did eat up the seven well-favored and fat cows. And Pharaoh awoke.
5 S’endormit de nouveau et vit un autre songe: Sept épis poussaient sur une seule tige, pleins et beaux.
And he slept and dreamed a second time: and, behold, seven ears of corn came up on one stalk, rank and good.
6 Et autant d’autres épis grêles et frappés par un vent brûlant se levaient aussi,
And, behold, seven thin ears and blasted with the east wind sprung up after them.
7 Dévorant toute la beauté des premiers. Pharaon s’éveillant après son sommeil,
And the seven thin ears swallowed up the seven rank and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream.
8 Et, le matin venu, frappé d’épouvante, il envoya vers tous les devins de l’Égypte et tous les sages; et les ayant mandés, il leur raconta le songe, et il n’y en avait aucun qui put l’interpréter.
And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof: and Pharaoh told them his dream; but there was none that could interpret the same unto Pharaoh.
9 Alors enfin le grand échanson, se souvenant, dit: Je confesse ma faute.
Then spoke the chief of the butlers unto Pharaoh, saying, My faults I must call to remembrance this day:
10 Le roi irrité contre ses serviteurs ordonna que moi et le grand panetier fussions ramenés dans la prison du chef des soldats,
Pharaoh was wroth with his servants, and put me in ward in the house of the captain of the guards, me and the chief of the bakers;
11 Où dans une seule nuit nous vîmes chacun un songe, présage des choses futures.
And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he; we dreamed each in accordance with the interpretation of his dream.
12 Il y avait là un jeune Hébreu, serviteur du même chef des soldats, et auquel ayant raconté nos songes,
And there was with us a Hebrew lad, a servant to the captain of the guards; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams; to each according to his dream did he interpret.
13 Nous entendîmes tout ce que dans la suite l’événement confirma; car moi je fus rendu à ma charge, et lui fut suspendu à une croix.
And it came to pass, just as he had interpreted to us, so it was; me he restored unto my office, and him he hanged.
14 Aussitôt par l’ordre du roi, on tondit Joseph qu’on avait tiré de la prison, et, ses vêtements changés, on le lui présenta.
Then Pharaoh sent and had Joseph called, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon: and he shaved himself, and changed his garments, and came in unto Pharaoh.
15 Le roi lui dit: J’ai vu des songes, et il n’y a personne qui puisse les expliquer: j’ai appris que tu les interprètes très sagement.
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard say of thee, that thou canst understand a dream to interpret it.
16 Joseph répondit: Sans moi, Dieu répondra des choses favorables à Pharaon.
And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me; God will give an answer for the peace of Pharaoh.
17 Pharaon raconta donc ce qu’il avait vu: Je croyais que j’étais debout sur la rive du fleuve,
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, In my dream, behold, I stood upon the brink of the river;
18 Et que sept vaches sortaient du fleuve, extrêmement belles et aux chairs grasses; elles paissaient l’herbe verte dans les marécages.
And, behold, there came up out of the river seven cows, fat in flesh and good in shape; and they fed in the meadow;
19 Et voilà que sept autres vaches les suivaient, si difformes et si maigres, que jamais je n’en vis de telles dan s la terre d’Égypte.
And, behold, seven other cows came up after them, poor and very ill-shaped and lean in flesh; I never saw any like these in all the land of Egypt for ugliness;
20 Or celles-ci ayant dévoré et consumé les premières,
And the lean and the ill-favored cows did eat up the first seven fat cows;
21 Ne donnèrent aucun signe de satiété; mais elles demeuraient engourdies dans la même maigreur et la même laideur. M’étant éveillé et de nouveau assoupi,
And when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them; but their appearance was still as bad as at the beginning. And I awoke.
22 Je vis un songe: sept épis poussaient sur une seule tige, pleins et très beaux.
And I saw in my dream, and, behold, seven ears came up on one stalk, full and good;
23 Sept autres aussi, grêles et frappés par un vent brûlant s’élevaient d’un chaume;
And, behold, seven ears, withered, thin, blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them;
24 Ils dévorèrent la beauté des premiers. J’ai raconté le songe aux devins, et il n’y a personne qui puisse l’expliquer.
And the thin ears devoured the seven good ears: and I told this unto the magicians; but there was none that could tell it to me.
25 Joseph répondit: Le songe du roi est un: ce que Dieu doit faire, il l’a montré à Pharaon.
And Joseph said unto Pharaoh, the dream of Pharaoh is one, that which God is about to do, he hath told to Pharaoh.
26 Les sept vaches belles et les sept épis pleins sont sept années d’abondance, et ont dans le songe la même signification.
The seven good cows are seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years; the dream is one.
27 Pareillement, les sept vaches maigres et décharnées qui sont montées après les premières, et les sept épis grêles et frappés d’un vent brûlant, sont sept années d’une famine qui doit venir.
And the seven thin and ill-favored cows that came up after them are seven years; and the seven empty ears, blasted with the east wind, shall be seven years of famine.
28 Ces années s’accompliront dans cet ordre:
This is the thing which I have spoken unto Pharaoh: What God is about to do he hath shown unto Pharaoh.
29 Voilà que viendront dans toute la terre d’Égypte sept années d’une grande fertilité,
Behold, there are coming seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt:
30 Que suivront sept autres années d’une si grande stérilité, que toute l’abondance précédente sera livrée à l’oubli; car la famine doit consumer toute la terre.
And there shall arise seven years of famine after them, when all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land;
31 Et la grandeur de la disette doit détruire la grandeur de l’abondance.
And the plenty shall not be known in the land by reason of that famine following it; for it shall be very grievous.
32 Mais le songe que vous avez vu en second lieu, et qui se rapporte à la même chose, c’est un signe certain que la parole de Dieu aura son effet et qu’elle s’accomplira promptement.
And as it respecteth that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice, it is because the thing is firmly resolved on by God, and God hasteneth to bring it to pass.
33 Maintenant donc, que le roi choisisse un homme sage et habile, et qu’il le prépose sur la terre d’Égypte;
Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt.
34 Afin qu’il établisse des intendants dans toutes les provinces; et que la cinquième partie des fruits des sept années d’abondance,
Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part [of the produce] of the land of Egypt in the seven years of plenty.
35 Qui déjà maintenant vont venir, il l’amasse dans les greniers: et que tout le blé soit mis sous la puissance de Pharaon, et gardé dans les villes;
And let them gather up all the food of those good years that are coming, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, as food in the cities, and keep the same.
36 Et qu’il soit tenu prêt pour la famine des sept ans qui pèsera sur l’Égypte, et que le pays ne soit pas consumé par la disette.
And that food shall be for a store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land be not cut off through the famine.
37 Ce conseil plut à Pharaon et à tous ses ministres;
And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.
38 Et il leur demanda: Pourons-nous trouver un tel homme qui soit plein de l’esprit de Dieu?
And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom the spirit of God is?
39 Il dit donc à Joseph: Puisque Dieu t’a montré tout ce que tu as dit, pourrai-je trouver quelqu’un plus sage que toi, et même semblable à toi?
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Inasmuch as God hath caused thee to know all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou:
40 C’est toi qui seras préposé sur ma maison, et au commandement de ta bouche, tout le peuple obéira; et c’est par le trône royal seulement que j’aurai sur toi la préséance.
Thou shalt be over my house, and according to thy word shall all my people be ruled, only in regard to the throne will I be greater than thou.
41 Pharaon dit encore à Joseph: Voici que je t’établis sur toute la terre d’Égypte.
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.
42 Et il ôta l’anneau de sa main, et le mit à la main de Joseph: il le revêtit aussi d’une robe de fin lin, et lui mit autour du cou un collier d’or.
And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a golden chain about his neck;
43 Il le fit monter sur son second char, un héraut criant que tous devant lui fléchissent le genou, et sussent qu’il était préposé sur toute la terre d’Égypte.
And he caused him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bend the knee: and he placed him [thus] over all the land of Egypt.
44 Le roi dit aussi à Joseph: Moi je suis Pharaon, mais sans ton commandement nul ne remuera la main ou le pied dans toute la terre d’Égypte.
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh; but without thee shall no man lift up his hand or his foot in all the land of Egypt.
45 Et il changea son nom, et il l’appela en langue égyptienne Sauveur du monde. Il lui donna pour femme Aseneth, fille de Putiphar, prêtre d’Héliopolis. Joseph sortit donc pour visiter la terre d’Égypte.
And Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphenath-pa'neach; and he gave him Assenath the daughter of Poti-phera', the priest of On, for wife. And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt.
46 (Or il avait trente ans, quand il fut présenté au roi Pharaon), et il fit le tour de toutes les provinces de l’Égypte.
And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh the king of Egypt; and Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.
47 Cependant arriva la fertilité des sept années, et les blés, mis en gerbes, furent recueillis dans les greniers de l’Égypte.
And the earth brought forth in the seven years of plenty by handfuls.
48 Toute l’abondance des grains fut mise aussi en réserve dans chacune des villes.
And he gathered up all the food of the seven years, which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field of the city, which was round about it, laid he up in the same.
49 Et si grande fut l’abondance du froment, qu’il égalait le sable de la mer, et que la quantité surpassait toute mesure.
And Joseph heaped up corn as the sand of the sea, very much; until he left off numbering, for it was without number.
50 Or il naquit à Joseph, avant que la famine vînt, deux fils que lui enfanta Aseneth, fille de Putiphar, prêtre d’Héliopolis.
And unto Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, whom Assenath the daughter of Poti-phera' the priest of On, bore unto him.
51 Il appela le premier-né du nom de Manassé, disant: Dieu m’a fait oublier toutes mes peines, et la maison de mon père.
And Joseph called the name of the first-born Menasseh: For God [said he] hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father's house.
52 Et il appela le second du nom d’Ephraïm, disant: Dieu m’a fait croître dans la terre de ma pauvreté.
And the name of the second he called Ephraim; For God [said he] hath caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.
53 Ainsi, les sept années de la fertilité de l’Égypte étant passées,
And the seven years of plenty, that was in the land of Egypt, were ended.
54 Commencèrent à venir les sept années de disette que Joseph avait prédites; et dans tout l’univers la famine prévalut; mais dans toute la terre d’Égypte il y avait du pain.
And the seven years of famine began to come, just as Joseph had said; and there was famine in all the countries, but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.
55 Or, l’Égypte affamée, le peuple cria à Pharaon, demandant des vivres. Pharaon leur répondit: Allez à Joseph, et tout ce qu’il vous dira, faites-le.
And when all the land of Egypt also felt hunger, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread: and Pharaoh said unto all the Egyptians, Go unto Joseph; what he saith to you, do.
56 Cependant la famine augmentait chaque jour sur toute la terre; et Joseph ouvrit tous les greniers; et il vendait du blé aux Égyptiens, car la famine pesait aussi sur eux.
And the famine was over all the face of the earth: and Joseph opened all the store-houses, wherein corn was, and sold unto the Egyptians; for the famine grew strong in the land of Egypt.
57 Et toutes les provinces venaient en Égypte pour acheter des vivres, et tempérer le mal de la disette.
And all the countries came into Egypt to buy corn of Joseph; because the famine was sore in all the countries.
